Move Over ‘99%’…Meet the Loveable ‘10%’

A study reports that since 1989, when prenatal testing for Downs Syndrome was introduced, 90 percent of women whose fetus tests positive decide to have an abortion. That means only 10 percent of children are brought to term after the mother learns of the condition.
The Daily Telegraph reports Friday that three children identified with Downs Syndrome are aborted in England and Wales per day.
Taking inspiration from the Occupy Wall Street protesters’ “I am the 99%” statements, which has also resulted in “I am the 53%“, this photograph began circulating around on Facebook. To date, it has been “liked” by thousands and shared upwards of 15,000 times since its posting on Sunday.
LifeSiteNews tracked down the father, Andy Reigstad, who said he decided to take this picture of his nearly 6-year-old son Boaz to show people “that though our son is not perfect (nor are any of us), he is happy and his life is worth living.”
Up until recently, prenatal tests for Trisomy 21 — the condition where a person has 47 chromosomes instead of 46 with the extra at the 21st chromosome — were rather invasive for the mother and child. Earlier this month, a non-invasive blood test for Downs Syndrome was released, hailed by some for its increased safety and received with concern by others foreseeing increased testing and subsequent abortions. The New York Times has more:
“You will have dramatically fewer procedures,” said Dr. Stephen A. Brown, an associate professor of obstetrics and gynecology at the University of Vermont[...]. “It’s a game-changer.”
[...]
“The number of American women who will have to grapple with this information prenatally will substantially increase,” said Dr. Brian G. Skotko of the Down syndrome program at Children’s Hospital Boston. His sister has Down syndrome, he said, and he pointed out that these tests could encourage more people to end their pregnancies, causing a decline in the numbers of people with the condition and leading to diminished support for them.
Although a high rate of abortions exist for women whose fetus tests positively for Downs Syndrome, a few years ago BBC reported a study of women in the United Kingdom and Europe revealed that births of children with the condition were on the rise.
Numbers of viewings for the photograph were updated in this story.

The child he picked up was called a “ta child” they were used and abused all ways possible, physically and sexually, and utterly despised. The “ta children” back then were what we call Downs Syndrome children today!!

For that matter, how many parents have cheated themselves out of Revelations which could have caused them to start a business because they didn’t have a Down Syndromes child whom would have said a particular word that would caused the light to turn on in the parents mind?

Your remarks are insulting and I’m offended. My son was born to me when I was 26….far below the scientific age for having a child with Down Syndrome. yes, we can scientifically prove that he has an extra chromosone. What you can’t scientifically prove is the effect he has had on those around him. He is far more loving that you appear to be and forgives everyone, even someone who abused him. Demoncrats are the ones who want to practice Euthenasia and kill every one of them. There’s a nice warm place waitiing for you. remember “stop, drop and roll” doesn’t work in he77.

Posted on October 28, 2011 at 1:45pmWhen I was pregnant with our first son, I was 30, and the doctor asked me if I wanted “the test”. When she told me what it was for, I asked if it helps correct any issues that may have been discovered. She said no, and I asked then why have it? I was totally naive about the test and was truly perplexed. She said some women will terminate if it shows the baby has downs or spina-bifida. I was taken aback and put my hand on my stomach, i know my jaw dropped by the look on her face.
I had 2 very healthy boys, but I can imagine being one of those mothers who learned the fate of her child in advance. I know I would have felt pain and guilt, but what I can’t imagine is not being grateful to God for the gift he had allowed me to have. All children are gifts and anyone who has worked or experienced a child with special needs knows that they are much more then the syndrome or the disease that inhabits them.

Original Word: παιδίον, ου, τό
Part of Speech: Noun, Neuter
Transliteration: paidion
Phonetic Spelling: (pahee-dee’-on)
Short Definition: a little child, an infant
Definition: a little child, an infant, little one.
little, young child, damsel.
Neuter diminutive of pais; a childling (of either sex), i.e. (properly), an infant, or (by extension) a half-grown boy or girl; figuratively, an immature Christian — (little, young) child, damsel.

Further to your Greek translation, if you go to A Concordance you will find that that these verses actually refer to this meaning:
figuratively, an immature Christian
Jesus was saying if we are unable to humble our selves as a child, we are unable to be teachable in the things of God and therefore unable to enter into His Kingdom for lack of Godly knowledge.

Those persons who are violent and unloving are almost insignificant in their numbers, and almost all of them owe their behaviors to unloving, punishing parents and family. I am sure that these people are predisposed by by God (Brahman) to be loving and devoted, and that they exhibit God Immanent (Atman) in the way we all should.

Typical New Testament anti-Jewish vilification propaganda drivel. A whole lot of what is attributed to Jesus are really quotes from the Old Testament and Rabbis who lived centuries before he did. Which is to say that Jesus taught Talmudic Judaism where it’s a huge heinous sin to mistreat a person who is handicapped in any way, In fact they are revered as people who are born without evil inclination. You’ll also find that charities and programs in support of children with these disabilities are started and supported mainly by the Jewish community.

I have worked with individuals with different abilities since 1980 in various capacities. The one common denominator that I have noticed is that these individuals are aware of the stigmatization attached to the affliction from which they suffer and only want to be viewed as the rest of us are. Simply because they may take a little longer to learn does not make them any less of a person that anyone else. They are deserving of the same considerations as the rest of us. I had not realized that the percentage of these lives taken was so profound. People must be presented with the fact that we are more alike than we are different. And all deserve a shot at freedom, accountability, and success which we can achieve in our own right with the talents provided by God with the least interference by a centralized government.

As a person that believes the bible from the first to the last word, there is NO science if there is NO God. Science if done HONESTLY never speaks to the opposite. (I am not science dumb.)
I asked God this very question one time; I prayed… God, why do you allow these things? He many, many years ago spoke from His Spirit to my heart, and told the very same thing that “ANGELCAT” saw and learned in her personal experience, as she stated in her post. When we look and SEE this kind of “flaw”; what WE think shows us ourselves, and OUR imperfections. God in His infinite wisdom uses imperfections to perfect. YOU however, take this opportunity to accuse God of mean spirited. Thus God shows you, you AND THE VERY REASON WHY YOU NEED HIS MERCY. Your aim is off !!! Look in the mirror and you will find the same thing as me…. a person in need of help… don’t be so full of pride as to not ask for it.

Then the Lord said in His heart, “I will never again ”curse the ground for man’s sake, although the imagination of man’s heart is evil from his youth; nor will I again destroy every living thing as I have done.
God has left us all to our own devices and our free wills. This has led to the destruction of the most innocent souls: our babies.

Posted on October 28, 2011 at 11:15amA true testimony that every life is precious no matter the situation. My former in laws raised a baby born to a mother who took cocaine. The baby had brain damage and subject to seizures. Doctors said that Tammy would never learn and would basically be a vegetable all her life. Tammy learned colors, she learned numbers and she was taught to walk somewhat with a walker that my father-in-law built for Tammy. Last time I saw Tammy was when she was 25 years old. Unfortunately, she is living in a home as Tammy’s only known parents have passed away. She was a God send a joy to her parents.
So because a fetus has 47 chromosomes and not the 46 deserves to be killed by the parents? If you so detest imperfections and don’t want the burden of caring for a less than perfect child (in your book), why have kids in the first place? Get your self fixed and never have kids because in my book if you are willing to abort for this reason, then you do not deserve nor should you raise any child.

The only way he “makes my life significant” as Ellen put it, is because he’s MY child. My other child makes my life significant in his own way, too. There is 9 years difference between my children, so I “know” my Down’s son better. And my younger son is a lot more like me, so we clash. My older son (now 21) can cook simple meals, has household chores (except like any child I can’t seem to get him to clean his room – same for the younger one at 12). We (before I got cancer) were going through a Big Book of Learning for 3rd Graders (his mental age) because he graduated high school 2 years ago and was losing some ground. He actually prints better than my younger son, and sometimes picks sections out of his Middle school US History book to write out and bring to me to read to him. He understands that some people want to abort, and it saddens him.

Posted on October 28, 2011 at 11:01amMy daughter deals with Cerebral Palsey and will require attention all her life. She brings great joy into our life and she is a happy person with lots to offer. We don’t ever think of her as a burden but a gift from God.I wouldn’t change a thing about her and IS a perfect person in all respects. We learn so much from all people how could we “eliminate” any from this world.

Posted on October 28, 2011 at 11:44amV-woman lace – have you “shot” any cops (er NAZI’s as you call them) recently? Love ya man…but you’re wrong about the police if you generalize them. there are good and bad cops, just like there are good and bad people…I hope you come around to see them differently one day. If you obey the law one should have little trouble with the police, that is the bottom line isn’t it? God asked me to talk to you, and since you didn’t care about this story, we can discuss your hatred of the police.

Posted on October 28, 2011 at 12:50pmI’m disturbed by this video that Alex Jones aired showing the little kids faces blown off and broken by NATO bombs in Libya.
Abortion of down syndrome kids is somewhat secondary to little kids being blown to smithereens and screaming with their lower mandible missing. I suppose I‘m just nonplussed by something like this when little kids’ faces are getting blown off.
Don’t get me wrong, I do care about this issue, just not right now at this second. We can talk about fluoride in the water if you want… it leads to this issue…

What are you blabbering about? Do you have to bring up my opinion of the police every chance you get? Are you that obsessed with my opinions…
I don’t, won’t, and couldn‘t possibly buy into your ridiculous assertion that people who get abused by police must’ve done something to deserve it, and the ridiculous notion that as long as you abide by the law the police will not harrass you, abuse you, etc. It simply isn’t true.
Try again.
