MRCTV Reporter Asks: Are Voter I.D. Laws Racist?

MRCTV’s Dan Joseph went out into Washington, D.C. to ask residents what they think about contentious voter I.D. laws that require individuals to show proof of identity at the polls. Some Democrats have called these regulations “racist,” claiming that they put certain ethnic groups at a disadvantage.

“I don’t regret calling attention to the efforts in a number of states with Republican dominated legislatures, including Florida, to restrict access to the ballot box for all kinds of voters, but particularly young voters, African Americans and Hispanic Americans,” Democratic National Committee Chair Debbie Wasserman Schultz recently proclaimed.

So, what did those with whom Joseph spoke say about the controversial laws? The results of the interviews may surprise you. Watch below:

    New York is going to require a photo ID to take an SAT test for college entrance but none required for voting.Will this be considered racist if minorities can’t get a photo ID?

      Good question. Further, a voter ID is required of ALL races, so HOW is that Racist? IT IS NOT.

      Millions of illegal aliens mostly from Mexico and Latin America vote in national elections and they vote reliably Democrat. That’s the reason the Democrats oppose voter ID. The argument that voter ID would disenfranchise Blacks is a subterfuge and an insulting one at that. The interviews prove that Blacks can obtain ID as easily as anyone else. The NAACP is allowing itself to be used. And those illegal aliens are taking jobs when Black unemployment is at an all time high. Why does the NAACP do that? Stoopid??

      In the state of Ohio, it is illegal to drink in a bar without an ID. In fact, if a bartender asks a 70 man or woman for said ID, and they are unable to produce that ID, then the bartender, by law, cannot serve that 70 year old alcohol. Also, if a cop comes into a bar and decides to ID a 70 year old and that 70 year old is drinking without an ID, the bartender could be looking at a trip to the local jail and a steep fine.
      ID is required for everything you do, including buying groceries on your debit card. What is the problem? I just can’t believe so many minorities allow the Dems to paint a picture of them as ignorant, uncapable fools.

    How on earth can it be racist? EVERYONE would have to show a photo ID, as usual the Democrats are yelling “racist” because its the Democrats who do the vast majority of the voter fraud.

    In early 2005, four people pleaded guilty to paying voters $5 to $10 to vote for Democrat candidates in the November 2004 election. In the same case, a federal jury convicted five others, including the Democrat Party chairman Charlie Powell, of a scheme to buy votes with cash, cigarettes and liquor.
    In March of 2011, federal immigration officials in Illinois arrested an illegal immigrant from the Philippines on vote fraud. Maria Azada was living in Grayslake, in Lake County, Illinois. News reports at the time say Azada allegedly admitted to immigration officials in February 2009 that she had voted in an election. She had falsely claimed to be a U.S. citizen on two Illinois voter registration applications.
    Matt Hawkins, a local East St. Louis activist with the Alliance for Change, has been fighting to increase voter integrity to ensure that every vote counts. Hawkins says the 2010 Census data shows East St. Louis actually has 3,000 more registered voters than people over the age of 18 who are eligible to vote.

    Is it racist to have to show a driver’s license when driving?
    Is it racist to have to show a concealed weapons permit when carrying?
    Is it racist to have to show picture ID when flying?

    NO! Besides, the only ones worried about such a requirement are those that are trying to game the system.

      @mcsledge. To carry on your topic ,is it racist to have to show photo id when buying beer?Is it racist to have to show a photo id to buy cigarets? Is it racist to have to show a photo id when you get pulled over by the police for a traffic violation? In my home state we have a voter id law and it doesn’t have to be a photo id .It can be a voter registration card which everyone gets when they register to vote to tell them where they are supposed to vote at. the answer to my questions above is no..

      Dipping your finger in ink is a good idea-remember the Dem*s VOTE EARLY,VOTE OFTEN? This will keep dead people from voting. Voter ID and purple fingers will work. Also get rid of voting by mail-like Oregon. If you are to lazy to go vote , you shoulnt be voting anyway!!!!

    It is blatantly and obviously NOT racist. It does not make race a condition of voting. Unlike the blantantly racist Affirmitive Action law which directly makes race an issue for hiring. The argument against the voter I.D. requirement isn’t even an honest one. The hardship angel is as transparent a farce as any other special interest cause in which they try to apply the race card. The truth is on the contrary. The Dems and Libs count on voter fraud, illegal aliens, and people who have lost their voting right through criminal convictions as their voter base. They simply do not want to find themselves losing their voting base. Like I said, their argument is as transparent as always. They simply think that you are too stupid to notice and they count on it as well.

    Students taking the SAT’s are required to have “acceptable form of ID”. So one must have “acceptable ID” to take the SAT to prevent cheating, but accourding to DOJ no ID is needed to vote. Why isn‘t the DOJ going after the SAT’s requirment?

    According to SAT website:

    Students must have photo ID on SAT® test day
    Students taking the SAT must present an acceptable form of photo identification in order to be admitted to the test center. IDs will also be checked during the test. Identification must:

    Be current
    Include a recognizable photo
    Bear the student’s name in English
    Match the name shown on the student’s Admission Ticket

    What is acceptable identification?
    Acceptable identification includes:

    Driver’s license
    State-issued ID
    School identification card
    Valid passport
    Student ID Form (that your school can prepare)
    Talent Identification Program ID/Authorization to Test Form (grades 7 and 8 only); photo not required

    Voter ID laws are indeed racist. Honest peoples votes are negated by minority’s multiple votes allowed by no ID laws. That is racist, minority votes are counted more that white votes.

      yep…if you drive cash checks buy alcohol, cigerattes, go rent a book, rent or buy property, get a job……..you must have id to prove who you are…..but if you vote you are at a disadvantage because you need one…………you are either dead or too young

      There were at least 4 black people arrested for voter fraud in Raleigh, NC in the recent past for voting more than one time in 2008 election. I don’t believe they arrested them until this year. I am sure there were many more that haven’t been caught. Purdue will say anything to get Obama re-elected bc she has tied up a big majority of NC taxpayers’ money on his green energy nonsense which put money in her pocket and cost us jobs and placed us in deeper debt. I would say she is one of the worst governors ever to be elected in the US. I have even questioned if she and Soros may be related.

    I guess that would lead me to ask is the law requiring ID to see a doctor’s office, be seen in the emergency room, buy certain medicines or alcohol racist? Because if having to have an ID to vote is racist, so are all the other things that require ID.

      If the left is so worried about “putting certain ethnic groups at a disadvantage” then they should fund and operate a program to transport, assist and pay the costs for those people to get a state ID card & get to the polls to vote. And Debbie Wasserman Schultz should be first in line to drive them in her car and pick up the tab for their ID’s. I dare you to put your money where your mouth is Debbie.

      But they won’t because a good number of the people in those “certain ethnic groups” are ineligible to vote because they’re not American citizens.

      I wonder if Debbie would support me if I sued my bank for being “racist” because they ask me for my ID when I withdraw cash from my account?

      I have to show a vailid ID to be a sunday school teacher
      I have to show a valid ID to get a wholesale tax number
      I have to show a valid ID to withdraw cash from my checking acount
      I have to show a valid ID to buy some types of OTC drug
      I have to show a valid ID to purchase car, life, health & property insurance
      I have to show a valid ID to buy some types of lawn & garden fertilizer
      I have to show a valid ID to turn on utility services if I move
      I have to show a valid ID to finance a car or a house
      I have to show a valid ID to get married
      I have to show a valid ID to get a copy of my birth certificate
      I have to show a valid ID to check into the hospital for surgery

      Yet in some states I don’t need one to vote.
