MSNBC Anchor Praises NYC’s Large Drink Ban (That Includes Some Coffees) …While Sipping from Giant Starbucks Cup

In between sips of what appears to be a venti (20 ounce) Starbucks coffee, MSNBC’s “Morning Joe” co-host Mika Brzezinski defended New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg’s proposed ban on sugary drinks larger than 16 ounces (which includes some coffee) as a “great idea.”
“Does anyone want to challenge me on that?” she asked her co-host, Joe Scarborough, and the other panelists.
No one challenged her.
“It’s like drinking a big glass of sugar,” Brzezinski continued, “of poison.”
But she wasn’t done. She really, really thinks the proposed ban is a great idea.
“Does anyone think their kid should drink this entire thing in the course of the day?” she asked, soda in hand. “How about every day? How about three times a week? Well, guess what’s happening out there? That’s what’s happening. And that’s why the majority of the nation’s children are obese.”
But here’s the funny part: it seems the “Morning Joe” crew is not just against sugary drinks, but also against (what they think are) excessively large portions. In fact, they all have a good giggle about how ridiculous it is that someone can go into a convenience store and buy a drink so large that it won’t fit in a car’s cup holder.
But if portions are the problem, then what do you say about Brzezinski’s venti-sized coffee?
Watch the “Morning Joe” segment via Mediaite:
“And with that, Mika Brzezinski gives new life to the term ‘latte-sipping liberal,’” writes Mediaite’s Andrew Kirell. “By capping off the segment with a hearty swig from her large coffee cup, she embodies that exact sort of out-of-touch, ‘good for me but not for thee’ liberal.”
However, it should be noted that under the proposed ban, non-sweetened coffees are exempt (regardless of size). Still, it seems odd that while decrying the size of drinks available for purchase, Brzezinski’s drinking a large cup of coffee.

You wrote, “Mika must be 1) a mother, 2) a runner, and 3) a taxpayer.”
And 4) an intrusive moron.
You go on to list the nutritional values of several sugary beverage choices, and you have every right not to buy any of them. There are certain restaurants I tend to avoid because I find the portion size too big, and I would rather not carry back leftovers. But I don’t feel it my duty to impose my notions on others.
By the way, if Mika was sipping on a venti whole milk latte, she’s be ingesting close to 300 calories, 15 g of fat, and 23 g of carbs. She’s have to run at 5mph for about a half hour to burn off that drink.

You are correct. Diet soda is proven to be worse than the regular ones. Diet soda slows down metabolism which causes the body to not burn calories which will cause obesity much more than sugar ever will. But it is typical for liberals to completely ignore the real cause of a perceived problem. Besides it is not a politicians job to get involved in peoples personal lives. With all New York’s problems a reasonable person would try to find a way to stop the city going bankrupt instead of worrying about what people drink.

She has a non-sweetened coffee. Therefore, it is exempt and I am correct in saying that what she is drinking would not fall under the new law.
You can keep saying that I am wrong and have been proven wrong with FACTS but until you can disprove what I have just proven to you with FACTS, your argument fails.
I see you have taken the old conservative, tea party, Glenn Beck argument that even if the facts don’t back you up, you are still correct because you believe yourself to be correct.
I said what she is drinking would not fall under the proposed law. The article above specifically states that as well. How am I wrong? Oh, I know, I‘m wrong because you are a tea partier who believes that anything that doesn’t fall into your narrow minded world view cannot possibly be correct despite the massive evidence supporting the opposing view.
