MSNBC Guest Highlights Parallels Between Gotham and America…and Guess Where George Zimmerman Fits

MSNBC Guest Richard Kim Ties Dark Knight Shooting to George Zimmerman | America is Like Failed State Gotham

(Photo: MSNBC)

MSNBC host Melissa Harris-Perry asked her guests today whether cultural factors should be discussed in association with the recent shooting in Aurora, Colorado, where James Holmes allegedly killed twelve people and wounded dozens of others at the midnight premiere of “The Dark Knight.”

(Related: MSNBC Host: 9/11 Gave America ‘PTSD’, ‘Muslim Terrorists’ Were An ‘Imagined Racial Enemy’ for White America)

In response, Richard Kim of The Nation drew a parallel between modern America and the fictional failed state of Gotham, saying that men like George Zimmerman are being “encouraged to vigilantism because we’ve cut all these police forces.”

He also said that that it’s hard to tell the difference between Batman and the Joker in a discussion over violence that is “just,“ and violence that is ”unjust.”

Watch the clip, via Mediaite, below:

Kim argued: “And what the movie depicts is that it’s very difficult in a failed state to tell what is just and unjust violence, right?  What’s the difference between a terrorist like the Joker, and [Batman], a vigilante?  And so you look at America now, and it’s not too much a stretch to say that in those horrific moments in Aurora we approached a failed state.  When someone can buy that kind of ammunition and these weapons online…”

He continued: “When you have people like George Zimmerman encouraged to vigilantism because we’ve cut all these police forces…you have the shards of a failed state so I think that’s a very profound, a very profound, sort of reflection, a dark reflection, really. Do we want to live in that night?”

Many commenters were seemingly confused by Kim’s comments.

Is he saying that America could be approaching a failed state because we don’t have enough police officers, and we need stricter gun control laws?  Who exactly is George Zimmerman in this scenario?

After a number of comments pointing out the high unemployment rate and skyrocketing national debt– and how that would seemingly indicate we could become a failed state– one commenter just asked: “So you‘re saying ’Replace the President?’”

Another simply wrote: “How do these people get a job?”

Richard Kim of “the nation” Seriously You are modeling Hollywood crappy movies to reality and actually can pull a comparison out of your ——- between America and a cartoon character? George Zimmerman was not a vigilante. He was a neighborhood watch guy, like a community organizer for the safety of the hood, ya know dog? He was attacked and he defended himself. Much like the Chinese airliner that was being hijacked and the Chinese beat them to a pulp! Why don’t you speak on that Mr.Kim? Dishonest men fear honest men having guns. Speak on that Mr. Kim. All that you non sensical and the American people are scratching their heads.

Why was Zimmerman attacked? Because he was too stupid to listen to instructions and not only kept following Martin and then got out of the relative safety of his car. If for no other reason than that he’s a fool and a liar, I‘m betting that he’ll be tried and convicted.

No, Zimmerman was attacked because we still believe him to be a “white male” and we all know that in the New America the “white male” is the cause of everything BAD– from blobal warming to the murder rate in Chicago– White Males in New America have been conditioned for at least the last generation to bend over and take it hard and NEVER, EVER defend themselves against a female, a gay, illegal immigrant and most of all BLACK MALE— that’s why Zimmerman was attacked– because he dared defend himself against a “minority”

was crime higher or lower during the great depression? It was lower. Divorce was lower. Why because folks had to hunker down and protect one another.

It seems this guy was too smart for his own good. He was talented but still could not feel good enough about his life to value his and other peoples lives. yet he still sought meaning. Too bad he will find out that this will not give him meaning.

“got out of the relative safety of his car”

      In his own neighborhood…

Going to lock your doos and cower when the FedEx guy shos up to deliver a package?

Going to take the car into a ditch if you see a McDonalds wrapper on the side of the road near your house?

      Please… Go be a coward elsewhere…

I’ll defend my home just like he did, legally.

Hoodie went for the gun, should’ve saw the gun and jumped off… but nope… went for it…

Tell me, what are you going to do when they point the gun at your family… hope they shoot your wife and kids first and then hope they remorse and kill themselves?

You assume like a hollywood movie.

Kill or be killed at that point. Zimmerman approached and hoodie challenged… oh well… c’est le gere.

The left is absolutely unable to grasp reality and think logically. The assertion that anyone becomes a “vigilante” because police forces are reduced is absolutely not provable. You COULD contend that people join neighborhood watch organizations because crime is rising. When they present the police force reduction ploy, I want to know WHERE and by how many. Further, there is not enough money on the planet to have enough police to PREVENT all crimes. That leaves a situation whereby police investigate crimes that are ALREADY committed. Only, the criminal and the victim are at the scene at the same time, so the victim MIGHT choose to be ready at ALL times. The real reason that crime is worse is a direct result of the collapse of values and ethics in our society, this is the fault of parents and the sense of entitlement that goes with kids who do not learn responsibility and consequences. Maybe the parent is a single parent and cannot provide complete guidance, but I will contend that this is something that is learned early in life and cannot be taught by someone who has no values or moral compass. Thank you liberals with your well intentioned and completely ineffective great society programs. I guess now the only thing that counts is no one starves and everyone has a roof, no matter how substandard. That’s progress?

He wasn’t following per se, he was observing, which is what his job calls for. “Surveillance” is the term used by law enforcement when they observe the meanderings of criminals.

And you’re stupidly laying the blame for his being viciously attacked by this black perpetrator at his feet, as if everybody deserves to be the victim of crime if they don’t allow black criminals free rein to do what they want to do

I realize you say what you do, because you ignorantly perceive it will have some kind of psychological impact, but it won’t.

I didn‘t catch it when they were talking about Zimmerman but I caught it when they were talking about if a friend was there and had a gun the guy would have got ten rounds off and then he would’ve been taken down… Kim responded with, “I don’t want to rely on my neighbor, or friends, or vigilantes, or Batman.” After I heard that I so desperately wanted to ask the man, “So you’d rather wait till the police got there and have 12 deaths on your hands instead of relying on your neighbor and the possibility of NO deaths?” I mean I have to wonder sometimes, do liberals actually want people to die? There is a parallel between Batman and the atmosphere in the world today. Batman has rules, a code he lives by in combating crime. He doesn’t use guns (not that I am for gun control) and does not kill. His adversaries on the other hand have no morals, no rules and don’t care who gets hurt. In fact in the case of the Joker the more that get hurt the better and better yet if it makes no sense. Batman is put at disadvantage because of that, just as good and right is in real life.Amoral people will do or say anything to promote their agenda. Those folks on MSNBC cant see that in a movie, what is wrong and what is right, and they cant tell right from wrong in real life either.

At a firearms store in Illinois, I was present when a group of people were talking about the state of affairs involving firearms and Chicago police officers in regards to their ability to shoot.Conversation came up because one of the people there ( the conversation took place between 2000 – 2003) was the firearms instructor for the CPD.The city does not let/want it‘s instructors to teach its’ police officers to shoot too good. They want the officers to not shoot themselves first, and then maybe hit their target. But the training is not supposed to be as good as it could be because they, the City, does not want their officers to be gungho, to look forward to gun play. they don’t want law suites from bad shootings. This was an instructor from the academy telling us this. This was in regards to new recruits and for the normal street patrols as well. Now that was then, I can’t speak for the what the philosophy of the academy is today.Nor can I say if there are groups of officers that get additional training above normal.Other than the SWAT like unit(s).I am not saying that the all officers like that policy, although you would be surprised that quite a few officers treat their firearms like a poisoned snake and wouldn‘t carry them if they didn’t have to.This is from several sources. The City does not want the officers to feel they w

Only in the uttermost depths of political perversion and indolence would the MSNBC compare the Zimmerman case with the massacre of 12 people and wounding of dozens. There is no comparison save for in their demented socialist and communist mindsets. Look at this well people and understand clearly, they want to be the leaders of our nation, using any means of force necessary to achieve their nightmare utopian ideals.

Consider well which you want – insanity of a massive scale never dreamed of before here at home; or a free Republic once again.

We all knew that most of the commentators on MSNC were dishonest now we can add that some of them are moronic as well.

MSNBC has an audience that we inherently assume to be at least somewhat rational. This isn’t the case and MSNBC knows there audience is young and inexperienced, if not inexperience they are stupid. So it would follow that to keep your young (some stupid old people), uninformed, impressionable and ignorant viewers it requires that you have screamers like Schultz, O’Donnell, Mathews, Sharpton etc. They also, as an added bonus, get to p!ss off conservatives who can’t square the bizarre commentary. But then again who gives a **** about 100,000 non-voters anyway.
