MSNBC Host Accuses Limbaugh of Racism for Saying Obama Used to Do Drugs

Lawrence ODonnell Says Rush Limbaugh Is Racist For Saying Obama Used to Do Drugs

A word to the wise: if you accuse President Obama of smoking marijuana and trying cocaine in his past — which he openly admits in his book “Dreams From My Father” — you are a racist.

During Monday‘s edition of MSNBC’s “The Last Word,” host Lawrence O’Donnell accused conservative talk radio host Rush Limbaugh of using “racist stereotypes” for advising presumptive Republican presidential nominee Mitt Romney to point out that while Obama was experimenting with drugs, he was contributing to the economy.

O‘Donnell started by playing a clip from Limbaugh’s radio show:

“Romney knows how to do this. He did it to Newt and he did it to Santorum. He knows full well how he has to do this. But I know what they think they’re up against. They got the first black president, independents… It’s easy to go after Newt or Romney, because they’re conservatives and everybody hates conservatives anyway… But we can’t go after poor old Barack that way, because he’s a minority.”

“And so Rush decided to teach Mitt how to go after a minority,“ said ”O’Donnell. “Rush thinks Mitt should be hitting Barack Obama as a lazy, drug-taking beneficiary of affirmative action. Rush didn‘t use the word ’shiftless,’ but Rush threw in every racist stereotype he could in his advice to Mitt.”

The host then played yet another clip from Limbaugh’s talk show. “Affirmative action” does not appear to get mentioned, but what does that matter to a mainstream media that is rarely fact checked. Limbaugh went on to give Romney advice as to what he should be saying about the president:

“’Okay so Mr. Limbaugh, since you have the answer to everything, then what would you suggest that Romney do, if he do?’ Okay, fine!

‘Look, pal, when I was out creating jobs, investing in businesses and growing this economy, you were at Columbia smoking weed and snorting coke. You write about it in your book, you talk about how you got into Columbia, the Harvard Law Review, and you didn’t have to do anything. That was what’s great about it. You loved getting into Columbia because all you had to do was go to class, get your grades, and smoke a little weed while I was out building the country when you were doing that.’”

To be fair, Obama admitted to smoking weed and snorting coke in high school not college, but there is speculation that the president’s drug use continued during his time at Columbia and Harvard. But because of that technicality, O‘Donnell says Limbaugh is lying about Obama’s drug use.

The president just used drugs to cope with the absence of his father, the host lamented.

However, notice how Limbaugh never claims Obama was doing drugs in college because he was black or even mentions “affirmative action” — that all came from O’Donnell.

For Limbaugh to be using “racist stereotypes” one would have to believe that only black people do drugs while in college.

As NewsBusters‘ Noel Sheppard points out:

In fact, if you had read or heard that clip without knowing who Limbaugh was talking about, could that have just as easily been a white guy he was referring to?

Haven’t lots of white kids smoked weed and snorted coke in college? They did at the two schools I attended.

So exactly what makes any of that racist?

Well, let‘s let O’Donnell explain to those of us who aren’t intelligent enough to see the blatant racism. The host looped in two equally liberal guests to hammer Limbaugh.

“Joy, all of those racist stereotypes that Rush was using are things that Mitt Romney can’t say,” O‘Donnell said to the Grio’s Joy Reid. “Rush says very, very effectively. There‘s no mystery to what he’s talking about there. Is it your sense that the Republican campaign is kind of, in a sense, relies on Rush for this?”

“The thing is that Rush Limbaugh is speaking to an average age 67, even older than Fox News,” Reid replied.

So people of an average age of 67 are racist?

“So he’s got a declining sort of product,” Reid explained. “He’s got an angry, miserable base that feels they’re the true victims of American history, right? The blacks got everything. The women got everything. They’re so lucky. We’ve got nothing.”

But wait, there’s more.

Reid continued: “Rush Limbaugh had a privileged existence… He was born to an upper middle class family. He had every advantage, and he just couldn’t get it done. This guy is president of the United States. Are you kidding? He thinks he’s better than you. That’s what Rush Limbaugh’s message is.”

This type of reaction to criticisms of Obama is nothing new, but it sure is getting old.

O‘Donnell actually replied to NewsBusters’ Sheppard on Twitter after he posted the story:

He is claiming that because Obama has not openly admitted doing drugs in college, Limbaugh’s entire premise is false. So for the sake of argument, here is exactly what Obama says about his previous drug use in “Dreams From My Father“:

“I spent the last two years of high school in a daze… drank beer heavily and tried drugs enthusiastically. I discovered that it didn’t make any difference whether you smoked reefer in the white classmates white sparkling new van or in the dorm room with some brother you met down at the gym…”

“Pot had helped, and booze; maybe a little blow when you could afford it.”

      PATTY HENRY, Larry did portray a family attorney on the show occasionally, and also played the president’s father in a flashback dream.
      He is so vitriolic to some of his guests that BSNBC spokesmen have had to apologize to them. He was also racially insensitive to Michael Steele in a controversial interview, for which he had to make a public apology.

      If somebody is so mentally incapacitated and fragile as to need drugs to deal with something other people deal with, without drugs, shouldn’t that disqualify him from holding positions of great power?

      Also, didn’t he just admit to crimes, right there in print? Don’t get me wrong, I’m against the WOD, but ol’ Barry is 100% for the WOD as evidence by his INCREASED incarceration rates for drug “offenders”.

They think it‘s perfectly logical to label someone a racist if they simply state a known fact simply because the person they’re talking about is black. Via their logic, no white person could ever criticize anyone other than another white, yet anyone can criticize a white for any reason. That’s absolutely illogical. So, who are the true racists?       Really don’t know. But I will tell you there are plenty of successful, happy independents who don’t look to GB and Rush for misinformation, stereotype pandering and self serving rants to make money off feeding the angry mob. You know the independent voters who actually elect the President after the ideological lemmings on both sides of the spectrum waste their votes. If you have something substantive to say about Romney other than he’s not Obama. Then let’s here it. But I also want to here about his real record at Bain Capital, his use of foreign bank accounts and exploitation of tax loopholes and real stances on the issues. And yes right now I see him as a member of the same group of bankers who trashed the US economy and fraudulently set the LIBOR rate. There are reasons he won’t release his tax returns. And none of them are good reasons and indicative of an individual who is honest and of high character.

      It was the banks who bought the (obviously fraudulent subprime) mortgages from retail-level mortgage lenders…….then they chopped those mortgages up into smaller pieces and sold them to investors representing them as Triple-A rated securities (even though they were essentially worthless because the mortgage wound up going into default).

      This is also known as fraud….

      JCROOK…you tell me champ…when an investment firm is assured that the mortgage based instruments they’re selling to investors are safe do you think they should trade on them?
      See…when liberals lobbied for lower lending standards…they got it..in the name of “affordable housing”. The goverment and Obama’s beloved ACORN made sure the banks and lenders complied (heck Obama lobbied also)…or else. So now you have all these bad loans on the books to people who should never have received them just waiting to blow up in their faces. Compound this with DEMOCRATS actively working to prevent congress from auditing Fannie and Freddie..the two bodies that police and broker these loans. So people like Chris Dodd (D) and Barney Frank (D) tell us Fannie’s fine. They stonewall measures to look into Fannie at the committee level so it never gets to congress. And VIOLA…the bad loans blow up in our faces.
      Please tell me how you expect to sell investment instruments that should be safe when their very foundation is a sham thanks to “affordable housing”?
      By the way..you think old Barney the buggerer fixed that with Dodd/Frank? The answer is no…the “affordable housing” mantra was still exercised with only 3.5% down for FHA lending. Can you say “another housing bubble” JCROOK?

      They go against what they inherently need, Justice and Mercy. Happiness is gone. They gotta be tough, to prove they are ‘right’. Their first reaction is to argue in defense, and prove they’re ’right’. They are very insecure because they go against their own dignity. They want Power!!! Freedom is ‘them having the power over the rest’.

      Pompous. Know-It-Alls. Look at Big Shot in his own mind, O’Donnell…How lame is he?! They lose as they live. Any happiness they have is an illusion, like a murderer’s temporary relief after a kill, and certainly not everlasting.

      See…this is why so many are being foreclosed on..get it? They shouldn’t have the loans to begin with..get it?
      When you have Fannie and Freddie (read: under Federal umbrella) assuring the market that the loans are good..but they aren’t.. what do you think the mortgage backed securities are worth then?

      Let me dumb it down for you champ…and I’m not excluding predatory lending..but lowering the lending standards allowed the predatory lending to take place… but when you build a house on sand and a storm finally rolls in..what happens to the house? See? When you build investment instruments on bad loans because the people who took out the loans really shouldn’t have been allowed to take out the loans..what happens next? Yeah..see KIDDIE..there’s your culprit..the actual loans themselves were bad. If the loans were good we wouldn’t be in this mess today now would we champ?
      Oh and if you think the bad paper is off the books..you’re sadly mistaken. Dodd/Frank did nothing to address this…naturally.
      So tell me…who lobbied for lower lending standards again?

      @kid — There is no question about where the blame for this lies. The Democrats in the Senate created the Community Reinvestment Act mandating the standards for home loans that Fannie and Freddie implemented. G.W.Bush contested and called for review of this act 15 times before it was passed. So no matter how you slice it – Washington’s hands are dirty here. It doesn’t absolve the actions of the banking industry. But the moving force here was Barney Frank and his gang. The rest are just guilty of trying to cover this up.

    Ok, queue the Open Minded, Compassionate, Liberal (ESPECIALLY about drug use) Lefty Trolls here who will viciously attack Rush for his addiction. It’s all they have. Since they CANNOT defend their Failed President, they MUST personally attack his critics. And they‘re not even smart enough to know that they’re doing it.       Totally agree.

      The difference between Rush and Obama is that Rush isn’t president. Rush is in an election every day, convincing people to vote for him (with their dollars) by listening to his show.

      Obama has a guaranteed job for 4 years, and he’s not really worried about satifying his “customers” because we have to pay him our taxes regardless of his approval rating.

      Who was the ******* that said that Rush came from an upper middle class upbringing and privilige and still couldn’t get it done(I guess she meant be sucessful). really, their stupidity is epic.As far as I know Rush kept getting up when fell and eventually became talk radio.     Obama admits to using drugs in his books and David Maraniss repeats the usage in his recent Obama book. Rush is correct and O’Donnell will be fired soon as the new company takes over. How long can a company tolerate an O”Donnell being so biased and unfair. We know Obama loves “fairness”.

    Ok to be fair…Bill Ayers is the racist..he wrote “Dreams from my Father” for Obama. But you’re a racist for repeating it…at least in Crazy Larry O‘Donnell’s “mind” you are.

    Larry comes across as a guy who’s “this close” to picking up a gun, walking into a building and shooting people. At least Fat Eddie Schlitz the host of the show that the other two MS… ( sorry..no more MS..just NBC now I guess) ..the other two viewers of whatever the network will be called yells a lot and gets that anger out..but Larry? He’s a creepy one.
