MSNBC Host on Koran Apology: ‘Americans Wouldn’t Go in the Streets & Start Killing People’

The situation wasn‘t all rainbows and ponies on Monday’s episode of “Morning Joe.” Host Mika Brzezinski defended Barack Obama’s recent apology over the burning of Korans, while Willie Geist seemed much less inclined to agree that it was necessary. The discussion included former George W. Bush foreign policy adviser Dan Senor, who explained that the burning of the books was not, in fact, an anti-religious act.

“I think what puts some people off is the context in which we’re in a constant stream of apologizing in this administration,” Senor said. “Every other week there’s an apology for something wrong that America does.”

Brzezinski & Geist Disagree Over Koran Apology on Morning Joe

Brzezinski disagreed with this vehemently and claimed that Obama’s “we’re sorry” was more than warranted. She turned to Geist and cited the example of an American flag being burned to compare the incidents and the need for a nation’s leadership to apologize for such an action.

“Let’s say the American flag was inadvertently burned. Would that not require an apology from another leader?,” she asked Geist.

“No, because Americans wouldn’t go in the streets and start killing people,” he answered. “So that’s a different situation.”

Geist then turned to Senor and, in an effort to be fair, asked if the former Bush adviser could sympathize with a war-time president doing whatever was needed — including an apology — to protect U.S. troops.

“If President Obama actually believes that this apology is going to tame down the violence, then of course — it’s worth doing anything,” Senor responded. “That’s not the case here. The president apologizes, his surrogates apologize, the commanding general on the ground apologizes — the violence is still spiraling pretty much out of control…”

Following this, Brzezinski was still undeterred.

“I think [the president] has some leverage to apologize without being criticized,” she continued, citing the fact that Obama has been “pretty tough on foreign policy.”

If we had done NOTHING there would be attacks, killings at another time- this is their religion (to kill all infidels NO MATTER WHAT) and I don’t know why it is so hard for us to accept that and we keep defending them.
They are always looking for “excuses” to murder/rape and this was perfect. When they apologize (profusely) it sounds like we are indeed the guilty ones and confirms how gullible we Americans are.
They “play us like a fiddle”.

I suppose military veterans should take up arms when a fool (Sacha Baron Cohen) insults us with acting a dictator and calling for the annihilation of the west/America while wearing United States Military Awards:
      Army of Occupation Ribbin
      Kuwaiti Liberation Medal – Kuwait
      Philippine Defense Ribbon
      Inter American Defense Board Ribbin
      Kosovo Campaign Ribbon
      Antarctic Service Military Ribbon
Korean Defense Service Medal (most offensive after the “ashes” nonsense_
      Medal for Humane Action
      Marine Corp Dril Instructor Ribbon

and more – this guy is sick and yet vets are still disrespected, even after fighting the playbook of the politicians Vietnam. The military will not be allowed to win when politicians are calling the plays.

They are human beings, they were in U.S. custody, our country had an obligation to treat them right. We didn’t. That was wrong. To those Iraqis who were mistreated by members of the U.S. armed forces, I offer my deepest apology.” Donald Rumsfeld on Abu Graib scandal

Bush apologized too. I think that‘s something you’re supposed to learn in Kindergarten.

Also, Americans do not go into the streets and kill people as a rule. They kill them in churches (George Tiller), schools and workplaces. The mostly just deface and burn mosques.

You would defend apologizing for burning Korans that were already defaced by prisoners to communicate secretly back and forth and yet give a pass to the murdering horde????? Your values are messed up. You are crossing the line of calling good evil and evil good. Tell me, should Muslims apologize for the death of millions of Christians in Africa or were they provoked to murder by those nasty Christian people? Women who had infants they were nursing were raped and then both breasts were removed in brutal fashion by Muslim men so they wouldn’t be able to nurse their babies anymore. Or how about the many women raped in Pakistan by Muslim men because they didn’t cover up enough and when the woman files charges she is jailed for adultery and then sometimes executed. Or maybe you find the woman’s rights of such stellar and exemplary quality in Muslim countries you would like to go and live there. You seem to be all about defending them and their way of life against the evil brutal USA. So pack up and move to your paradise in the middle east !!!!! Bush apologized for a soldier shooting holes in a Koran (http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/middle_east/7410367.stm). That’s just what Presidents do. They have other motivations than stoking your own hatred and the hatred of others.

Don’t bother explaining the rational for your hatred of another religion. You’re just repeating what others do here regularly. Honestly, I’m not impressed. The hatred of an entire group of people is commonplace both in the US and abroad and has been forever. It’s been Catholics, blacks, jews or whomever else and the language is just the same. Your not clever, you’re just following in the footsteps of other who have spoken much more eloquently of their hatred than you. Those people have never done much good for the world I’m afraid. And if you think your comments somehow make you sound educated then that is about the funniest thing I have seen posted today. You always like to justify your positions and sympathies by pointing to other things you think justify them. I see, like other posters, it takes two posts to reply to one of mine. Anyway, the Koran says, “If someone kills another person it is as if he had murdered all mankind. And if anyone gives life to another person, it is as if he had given life to all mankind. (Surat al-Ma’ida: 32)

I have a better idea though. Ask a Muslim. Go to a mosque or give them a call! You’ve never actually met a Muslim have you?

Let’s see: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Yelwa_massacre. 650 Muslims were massacred by Christians. Which proves that all Christians want to kill Muslims. And Christian husbands sometimes beat or kill their wives, so that proves they all do. And the conservative Christian Anders Behring Breivik only did what all Christians are just about to do when they get the chance: kill liberals.

You think you are different from people who hated or still hate all Jews or blacks, but you’re not. You just hate them and like other bigots, you have your reasons. People like you always do.

Maybe you should take up this hate issue with your spiritual leader. It‘s doesn’t seem like you’re a follower of the Prince of Peace, who didn’t teach hate as I recall.

Answer the question, when an unbeliever is killed is that person condemned or praised by other Muslims? To make it easy for you since you have difficulty understanding things unless spelled out for you. No one is holding a faith hostage based upon what a kook or kooks do all faiths have had their false members. We have to look to what each faith teaches and you listed on verse from the Qu’ran but as is your typical MO, you failed to list the others, surprise surprise. One guess as to what those say? Shall I let you post them or do I need to? Again the more you post the more you expose your tactics and total disregard for the truth. I’m waiting for you to give me the kill-the-non-believer quote from the Koran from you. In the meantime, here are some for you:
Whoever sacrifices to any god, except the Lord alone, shall be doomed. (Exodus 22:19 NAB)
Suppose you hear in one of the towns the LORD your God is giving you that some worthless rabble among you have led their fellow citizens astray by encouraging them to worship foreign gods. If you find it is true and can prove that such a detestable act has occurred among you, you must attack that town and completely destroy all its inhabitants, as well as all the livestock. (Deuteronomy 13:13-19 NLT)

So Christians, the Bible teaches, are supposed all the non-believers AND the livestock.

In any case, find your quote, and find a couple of more from the Bible, for what little that proves. But ask a regular American Muslim and they’ll answer the question for you. But you already know the answer from my quote don’t you.

This thread is still where it began without progress. You are trying to justify your bigotry against 2 million American Muslims and 20% of the entire world, all based on some kooks that you love to reference and a religion you’ve never discussed with a believer. While I wait for your quote from the Koran, I’ll give you one of my own: “Suppose you hear in one of the towns the LORD your God is giving you that some worthless rabble among you have led their fellow citizens astray by encouraging them to worship foreign gods. If you find it is true and can prove that such a detestable act has occurred among you, you must attack that town and completely destroy all its inhabitants, as well as all the livestock.” Deuteronomy 13:13-19 NLT)

So the Christian Bible teaches to kill both all the non-believer AND the livestock.

If you were to ask an American Muslim, say, if they believe you should kill all non-believers, you know what they’d say. I guess you‘re too afraid they’d kill you first huh?

Unfortunately we are we we started. You want to justify your hatred of 20% of the world’s population and 2 million Muslim Americans based on the actions of a tiny fraction of Muslims, while you ignore the same from Christians. You think you’re different and special and justified in your hatred of all Muslims, but that people who hate all Jews, Catholics, Irish, blacks, or Mexicans are misinformed.

First of all, you have referred to Old Testament scriptures that are no longer followed. Let’s see, I believe Jesus is the one that said bless your enemy and pray for him. If he is thirsty give him something to eat. Secondly, how many Christians organizations are committing terrorist acts sponsored by governments around the globe? For all your drivel and misdirection you STILL have not answered 2 questions. What about the millions of Christians killed or abused by Muslims in Africa and the women abused by Muslims in Pakistan as the courts penalize the woman under Sharia law. Second is a Muslim who kills unbelievers condemned or praised? C’mon now enough dodging. BTW I gave you an entire link to numerous teachings about killing infidels and unbelievers or those who leave Islam. My guess you know very little about the Qu’ran and what is taught in the 4 schools. Try lQQking in the hadith as well. My guess you are Googeling everything your posting and lQQking to others arguments to debate me. You‘ve never discussed the Islamic religion and it’s beliefs with any knowledgeable Muslim, yet you claim to understand what Muslims believe. You are afraid to discuss your concerns with an actual Imam, although they would gladly accommodate you. You claim all Muslims believe in killing non-Muslims, give the examples you read from your Islamaphobic websites, yet dismiss the peaceful nature of 2 million American Muslims and 99.9% of the rest of the Islamic population. The Bible teaches Christians to kill non-Christians, but you say God changed his mind about that (nice move!), and conveniently ignore the blood on the hands of Christians.

Sorry hand, you are reinventing the wheel. You are simply a bigot and your reasons for hating a group of people are no different than other bigotry, against the Jews or blacks.

OK JZS…….your dodging is getting to the point of quite annoying !!!!!! First off, I NEVER said all Muslims believe in killing infidels = false assertion. Second, The old Testament was a different covenant with Israel and was under the Mosaic law, for someone that likes to use scripture in their debate you know very little about its history or context. Third, you keep using the term bigot as if it were eventually going to stick even though I am dealing with factual information about doctrines found in the Qu’ran, the Hadith, and taught in the 4 schools of Islam. BTW in Islam it is OK to lie about who you are and your true nature to infidels. Islam is like the Borg it seeks to absorb everything in its path politically, economically, judicially, and spiritually. There is no liberty of religion in Muslim countries period you ignorant person. Have you traveled to Saudi Arabia or Iran or Syria? How about the Sudan? If it is so peace-loving let me book you a trip to Pakistan, deal? I didn’t think so. You are in lala land where evil doesn’t exist and everything is love and peace. Well in the real world evil DOES exist and it must be confronted. Even Satan masquerades as an angel of light so why wouldn’t “religion” do the same thing? YOU STILL HAVE NOT ANSWERED EITHER QUESTION I POSED PREVIOUSLY !!!!!! That is quite telling. If a Muslim kills an unbeliever are the praised or condemned? What about Pakistan and Africa? I am still waiting.

Hand, I’ve answered your question several times, and the Koran addresses it as well. Hm, wonder if you’d believe George Bush? He said, “Some of the comments that have been uttered about Islam do not reflect the sentiments of my government or the sentiments of most Americans. Islam, as practiced by the vast majority of people, is a peaceful religion, a religion that respects others. Ours is a country based upon tolerance and we welcome people of all faiths in America.” He was talking about this crowd I guess.

I guess you don’t believe in the teaching of Christ either, the guy who taught us to love our neighbor as well as our enemy. So if you don’t believe the Koran (or quote it out of context), actual Muslims, Bush or Christ, I don’t know what to say.

Sadly bigotry and hatred of the kind you proudly espouse do not lend themselves toward objectivity. If you remembered any world history from high school you’d know the cost in spilled blood across the world and across time from prejudice like yours (no, sorry, you’re not unique). One religious, ethnic or racial group decides another group is subhuman and deserves persecution and death. And the result of those beliefs is persecution, war and genocide.

Your kind have never improved the world hand. Hatred and bigotry are not a basis for solving conflicts.

@ JZS….you have not answered my question !!!!!!! Would a Muslim be praised or condemned for killing an infidel? What is your thought of the mass murder of Christisans in Africa at the hands of Muslims and of the serial raping in Pakistan of women that are then jailed for adultery and immorality? What country is your dream Muslim country to live in? They are so peace-loving and tolerant of other faiths and beliefs. What country are just in love with that is Muslim? Answer directly PLEASE…..And I couldn’t give a flying fart what GWB said about Islam. I can’t personal stand him as a president. He also said he looked Putin in the eyes and believed him. Didn’t work out quite that way huh? And you can beat the drum of hatred and bigotry all you want it isn’t true so keep clanging there JZS. That is debating from a point of weakness. You are a dangerous person and I have been right all along. You are Googeling your replies, you have no clue what the Qu’ran or hadith or the 4 schools teach. You are a single white relatively young female with no children who will not condemn murdering and raping. You want answer a simple question with a direct answer because you know the answer is that they would be praised for killing an infidel. You won’t stand against honor killings. You will however stand for a woman’s “right” to kill her unborn child and then sit back and call me hater and bigot responsible for the world’s ills and evil?????? LOL

Hand, Coretta Scott King said “Homophobia is like racism and anti-Semitism and other forms of bigotry in that it seeks to dehumanize a large group of people, to deny their humanity, their dignity and personhood.” Having personally experienced the kind of bigotry marks your personality, she knew you and your kind. And she knew you weren’t trying to “help” people.

Hand I answered your question with the Koran, the Bible, various quotes etc. Except it appears you, who have never once spoken to a Muslim about religion, know what all two billion of them believe, and come up with a different answer, one more suited to your prejudice and hatred.

Sadly, you and your fellow bigots, those who demonize entire groups of people, have never done the world any good. Yes, I see you have listed more reasons for your hatred, but we all seen that same list before, against the Jews, blacks, Mexicans, Catholics and so on. It’s a copy and paste.

Now you’ve switched your argument to claim you are standing up for Muslim women. Sure you are! Republicans are constantly standing up for women’s rights. Still Hand, you know the women want to kill you just as much as the men, because they are Muslim too. Watch your back! Did you know there may be actual Muslims in your town?

While you’re spreading the word of hate about Muslims in order to save their women, perhaps you can revile other groups too, to make the world better. I have an idea, why don’t you spread hatred about all those Christians who are defacing and burning Mosques in the US, and the Christians who are murdering Muslims overseas. You can’t hate too much Hand, and it makes the world so much better, as you say.

They are destined for hell and think that when they rape a woman, or kill their child, or unbelievers they are doing a service to God. And what do you do? Where are the locals who are standing up for America and all the help we have given them – apparently no where. @ ZORO51- According to the Guinness Book of World Records, Islam is the world’s fastest-growing religion by number of conversions each year: Although the religion began in Arabia, by 2002 80% of all believers in Islam lived outside the Arab world. In the period 1990-2000, approximately 12.5 million more people converted to Islam than to Christianity. This was again shown in the 2005, 50th anniversary of Guinness Book of World Records, although the number of conversions was not mentioned this time.

In 1990, 935 million people were Muslims and this figure had risen to around 1.2 billion by the year 2000, meaning that around this time one in five people were followers of Islam. According to the BBC, a comprehensive American study concluded in 2009 the number stood at 1 in 4 with 60% of Muslims spread all over the Asian continent: A report from an American think-tank has estimated 1.57 billion Muslims populate the world – with 60% in Asia. The report was done by the Pew Forum Research Centre. The forum also projected that in 2010 out of the total number of Muslims in the world 62.1% will live in Asia.

The President is a figure head and nothing more, respect is earned, not owed. Citizens like these give the President way to much power because they are uninformed and don’t understand the U.S. Constitution and the powers given to each branch of government with checks and balances. I understand that politics is a world away from reality, so I hope that while President Obama apologises to the Muslim world and Afghanis in particular, he on the other hand is talking to his Generals on the ground about how to do a better job next time. If this is the first time a Quran has been burnt, then something is wrong with the military. There should therefore be a fort, as big as the infamous Area 51, where we have a secure storage for all the Qurans that have been seized for security reasons. I dare say, why not the Bible and other holy books. Soon we will have a place as large as a city or even a state for this purpose. I hope that there have been hundreds of secret Quran burning, millions of Bible burning and so on. If the Bible ever gets used in such a manner, I have no problem with it, even a million of them being burnt. The idea of hiding relevant and secret material in a holy book is old wisdom that should not beat an elite force like NATO. Clint Eastwood hid his machine gun in a coffin in the movie DJANGO. Who was it that hid his pistol in a Bible. Ask members of the ATF how many times drugs have been hidden in a holy book.
    • Second point to ponder is why did we get caught? How come the most elite force in the world does such a shabby job of this? Aljazeera actually has a picture of one of the Qurans about 20% burnt. What kind of incinerator was used? AGAYOUME, You really should consider putting down that BSNBC Kool-Aid for a while and come up for some fresh air. That stuff is really starting to warp your sense of reality.

“I think [the president] has some leverage to apologize without being criticized,” she continued, citing the fact that Obama has been “pretty tough on foreign policy.”

I did not realize that Barry had been tough on foreign policy. I just need to watch MSNBC when the jail and prison shows are not on. What a sycophant to the current administration.

She meant his foreign policy has been tough on American solders, they are dying at record rates, been tough on civilians in the mid east are dying at an alarming rate, and tough on freedom in the middle east.

I can’t help but laugh every time I see the MSNBC “Lean Forward” saying.

When I hear it I can’t stop laughing because the proctologist tells you “Lean Forward” just before he jams his finger in a place you don’t want it to go. Just like the liberals… “Lean forward… this won’t hurt… much. Its just a political screwing. You will be done in about two minutes!”

These Korans were used to move communications to and from the jailed. They were burned because no one knew what else was contained within them

I feel that the Afghanistan people were looking for a reason to rise up… I am sure that they are tired of the Troops being there and the stress of the war. However, the Taliban will exploit these people to create violence and use them as human shields. I am just wondering how the word got out the Korans were being incinerated (because the were defaced). You would think that the troops would have handled this in an incinerator, but knowing how much we cut the military spending, they were most likely doing it in an open courtyard. However, this is all speculation as I have not seen a story on how the disposal was being conducted.

You will find that starting the fireplace with them works very good. Put a little bacon grease on a few pages it gets hot enough to get the wood going,

We cannot always say we’re sorry. Yes, during a time of a war we need to watch our bad habits. They can come and bite us in the bumm. It is not surprise that many Afghans are Muslim but to win them over we need not destroy or burn their mosque or qurans. Agreed?

The soldiers who burned them did not know they were burning Korans. In other words, it was an accident, and not done on purpose, but the “peaceful religion” does not allow for forgiveness. Now, NATO thinks we should prosecute the soldiers.

The comparison with burning the American flag would only be valid if the flag in question had secret messages woven into it that allow prisoners to communicate with each other. If that’s the case, then yes, they’d be fully justified in burning the flag and we would be idiots to expect an apology for it.

The afghans beg us to stay there every time a withdrawl is even mentioned, just like they did in iraq. But nobody wants to notice that.

They want the people there patrolling their streets because there are still people there that will kill you at the drop of a hat.
