MSNBC Panelist Compares Sarah Palin to ‘Snooki’: She‘s a ’Cartoon Character’

What would you say if I told you an MSNBC panelist, who made his name in advertising, compared a former vice-presidential candidate and governor to an over-the-top reality TV star who was just* arrested for public drunkenness? If you said you don’t believe it happened, then you’d be wrong.

On Tuesday morning’s “Morning Joe,” panelist Donny Deutsch had an epiphany and opined about America’s fascination with Sarah Palin. According to him, explaining that fascination is “very simple”:

“Why the fascination [with Sarah Palin]? It’s very simple and I’m not going to be glib here. She is Snooki. It’s the same math. A younger generation they want to watch this character with big character with big hair who’s funny…you don’t know she’s going to say. It’s no different but for a higher demographic! We watch her she’s interesting looking, whats she going to say? She’s campy, she’s kitschy, it’s telegenic, its television, its entertainment. That’s the fascination. Beginning, middle and end of story, she’s Snooki.”

For those unfamiliar with Snooki, she’s the star of the reality TV series “Jersey Shore.” On last night’s episode, she was arrested for being drunk in public:

Palin and Snooki: it’s obvious they are both “cartoon characters.” They might as well be twins attached at the hip.

In a slightly longer version of the panelist’s monologue posted on Mediaite, Deutsch says he knows another panelist, Willie Geist, agrees with him and begs Geist not to leave Deutsch “hanging.” Unfortunately for Deutsch, Geist refuses to agree. It looks like not everyone is willing to make the odd comparison:

      The reasons for her leaving are quite clear, she saw that could do more for the country on a national scale than she could do locally in Alaska. This seems to be true, so for someone who shares her values, she made the right move.

      As for false victomhood, she was being blamed for the crimes in Tucson before the blood was even dry and before even the slightest facts were known – even a liberal should understand that she was a victom of a rush to judgement.

      @FreedomAdvocate She was elected to do a job, when the NAtional media began to raise question about her the job she was doing and investigations and scandals began to show, she ran like the coward she is.

      As for her “victimhood,” she did nothing but saw an opportunity to inject her face into a national issue. She published the gun-sight map, she used the term “don’t retreat, relaod,” and now you want sane, intelligant Americans to believe she is a victim.       @Encinom If her vision is now set on the national level, I can see why she decided that finishing her term at the local level would hamper her momentum on the national scale, so if she thinks she can accomplish more good at that level – then she did the right thing.

      As far as your argument about rhetoric, all of that terminology was said clearly in association with electoral “campaigns”, anyone with half a mind can figure out the intent of those words without interpreting them in the worst possible manner outside of the context. Millitaristic language has long been associated, on both sides, within election campaigns (“campaign” being a milaristic term in itself). There are numerous examples on both sides of such language.

    It’s amazing that someone like Sarah Palin is supporting and defending our constitutional rights, not to mention believes in American values along with morals, it’s not enough that she fights for the American way of life…and all the networks can do is find holes in her armor. It’s obvious that the Dems are scared of her or they would fire back like they do. Come time to vote and she is running for President, believe me I will be there voting for her. Mrs. Palin, you have a lot of supporter and they believe in your quest and we have done our homework and we as Americans can see that our current Government is out of control, and it’s time to step in and take charge of OUR country.

      I think these comparisons actually are more revealing in a way different than intended. I would say that Jersey Shore represents more of the liberal view of the world and the Alaska show is more representative of the conservative view of the world. I wonder which is more wholesome…

    It amuses me how the liberals build up a narrative of someone like Palin, then use that narrative rather than facts to attack her when something like the shootings in Tucson happen. And in this case, the narrative itself is so cartoonish that they laugh at how cartoonish she seems, when again, it is just the narrative they paint that they are mocking, rather than the person herself.

      Far as I know, no one has assailed Obama’s children. If someone did, I’d be seriously cheesed about it and make my view known no matter who said it.

      On the other hand, we had Olbie naming Bristol the “Worst Person in the World”, and Letterman making a sexual reference between Palin’s younger daughter and a baseball player–that kind of thing (note: I don’t care that Letterman thought it was Bristol–it was still crude and beyond the pale…can we agree on that?). The children should be off-limits completely, but MSM pundits don’t do that.

      I’m certain, of course, you see the difference I’m trying to illustrate.

      While Sarah would make a far better POTUS than we have seen since the 80′s, her election would be but a small part of the blessing we would received.       Those who talk about Sarah’s poll numbers being the lowest never need to be reminded that now the only way is UP from now on. In a debate with President Obama, he would look petty and stupid to be bringing up any of these character assaults of her. So whats he going to do, she has ALL of his failed policies on her side. What can he say about her, she quit as Governor? That’s easily answered. I personally know people that hated her last year and now have really listened to what she has to say and now they like her and think that the media is going overboard on trying to demonize her.
