MSNBC Says Give Obama A Break, At Least He’s Not Churchill

This one had me scratching my head, rewinding the DVR and playing it over and over. Invest the three minutes and see if you feel the same befuddlement:

Did MSNBC’s Martin Bashir just compare Barack Obama to Winston Churchill?  Yes he did, with Churchill portrayed as a chain-smoking, stogie lover who drank all day and painted landscapes to beat depression while Obama is seen as a man strong in character who has defeated the demon nicotine and shuns alcohol.

Not only is this comparison patently unfair to Winston Churchill, it turns a blind eye to Obama’s predilection for golf and vacations. This Sunday the Obamas are off to Rio for yet another vacation. And even London’s Daily Mail has taken issue with the amount of golf played played by Obama, pointing out that this President has played more rounds of golf in two years than Bush did in eight.

A British citizen, Mr. Bashir, recently stepped into the 3pm slot on the flagging cable channel, and is no doubt trying to cement his spot in the liberal line up of hosts who will stop at nothing to justify whatever this President does.

Wednesday Bashir challenged recent criticisms claiming that the President spent more time worrying about the NCAA basketball tournament than he has about pressing topics like:

  • Japan’s nuclear crisis
  • Libya’s civil war and the non-stop bombing of citizens by Qaddafi
  • The stalled American economy
  • The ongoing budget battle
  • Gas prices rising with no ceiling in sight

Bashir wants us to cut the President some slack over his attention to the “March Madness” tournament.

“It involves the President of the United States and a certain ritual that he must undergo every year…”

I am checking my copy of the Constitution and nowhere can I find a mention of the annual Presidential ritual of filling out an NCAA March Madness bracket.  (If I have missed it, please send email me – mike@theblaze.com)

Martin Bashir also tries to justify Obama’s basketball obsession not by praising the sport, but by trashing Sir Winston Churchill, the Prime Minister credited with guiding England through the second world war:

“Churchill was known to enjoy a cigar between each serving of a five course meal, rarely smoking less than ten cigars in a day.  The president chews nicotine gum and hasn’t smoked in over a year.”

What?  Huh? Talk about comparing apples to oranges.

And then Bashir pushed me over the edge when he said:

“So with our own Commander In Chief spending a few minutes on his favorite sport, let’s give him a break and hope that he too gains some benefit from a small diversion away from the huge challenges that still demand his every waking hour.”

First of all… OUR Commander In Chief?  I have looked and cannot find evidence of Martin Bashir getting American citizenship. But even if he is now a fellow American, I have to question his thinking.  When a college basketball tournament sits atop a President’s priority list, ANY President, we have big problems.

Not a great leap to understand obama doesn‘t amount to a pimple on Churchill’s ass, even after he has been dead for decades. Churchill almost single handedly saved the world be seeing what hitler was. Obama is a total loss.

I say we need more of the cigar smoking manly men to lead in these times to fix the problems that the gutless, girly men have left us with. Dig up Churchill, get him back in working order, stick a cigar in his mouth and a gin (extra dry) martini in his hand and let him loose to lead.

Well, well, ook who obama is going to visit in Rio this coming weekend — another commie!

http://newzeal.blogspot.com/2010/12/dilma-rousseff-brazils-radical_06.html “The new president of Brazil, Dilma Roussseff is even more radical than her marxist predecessor and can in no way be seen as any sort of ally by Western governments – except perhaps the Obama Administration.”

“Rousseff was labeled one of Brazil’s most wanted and beautiful fugitives. After three years underground, At the age of nineteen she was captured in 1970 by Brazil’s military police, in a “sting” operation and was considered a big enough catch that a military prosecutor labeled her the “Joan of Arc” of the guerrilla movement. She was submitted to several weeks of brutal torture while held in the Tiradentes prison.

Charged with subversion by the right-wing military government, she suffered through the disappearance and torture of her Marxist companions, some of whom died or were killed by the military. Rousseff was held in prison for three years, being released in 1972. The government forbade her to engage in political activities. However, as a fighter for Brazil’s left-wing guerrilla movement in 1969, she exchanged a wedding dress for fatigues and remained in the underground.”

Obama’s priorities are: Golf, Final Four Brackets, Golf, Parties, Golf, Vacations, Golf, Executive Orders to the 2nd Amendment, Golf, those “tea-bag waving Tea Partiers,” Golf, Silencing dissent, Golf, Taking over health care, Golf, Keeping his records sealed, Golf, Making as many communist friends as he can, Golf, muslim interests, Golf, changing America to the point that it’s unrecognizable, Golf, making enemies out of once allies, GOLF …

His priorities SHOULD be: The economy, Japan, Libya, and acting like he actually cares about the country he spent hundreds of millions of dollars to take over!

2012 can’t come soon enough! God bless America!

The are only two valid comparisons of Obama to Churchill- they’re both human and heads of state.
Now lets look at the contrasts:
Churchill was competent, Obama is not.
Churchill never bowed to another head of state, Obama does so very comfortably.
Churchill never apologized for the previous perceived transgressions of his country, Obama does so very often and with great relish.
Churchill was a statesman, Obama is a bufoon.
Churchill was a diplomat, Obama is a fool.
Churchill excelled under adverse conditions and international crises, Obama retreats to ESPN and basketball picks.
Churchill was decisive, Obama repeatedly waffles.
Churchill loved Great Britian until his dying day, Obama looks forward to the death of America as we know it.
How dare anyone suggest these two have anything but the most rudimentary aspects in common!

Communists and socialists dressed as Democrats that want to change everything that my deceased father (1st Marine Div, Okinawa D-30 who carried a 90 pound flame thrower through the battle and survived, then to go on to China and protect the Japs he was just killing) fought for. He fought for YOUR and MY right to say what you want. Wait … Wait, do you think the Communists would allow you to say what you want?

I DO know that the President has announced in PUBLIC who his enemy is. It is me, and many others who do not agree with his position or otherwise known as “The Political Opposition”

C’mon Marine, you cannot be serious about voting for him again.

If you forgot, here is the DIRECT QUOTE.

“If Latinos sit out the election instead of saying, we’re going to punish our ENEMIES and we’re going to reward our friends who stand with us on issues that are important to us, if they don’t see that kind of upsurge in voting in this election, then I think it’s going to be harder — and that’s why I think it’s so important that people focus on voting on November 2,”

Personally I do not have any problem with how much golf either of them plays but if you are going to complain about it how about being fair in your criticism? With all of the crises that are going on right now, the middle-east, Japan, unemployment, and the budget, how about stop playing games, going on vacation, and at least appearing to be concerned about what is going on in the world and our country? As for comparing Mr. Obama with one of the greatest war time leaders in history, this is ludicrous beyond belief. Churchill helped save our way of life, Obama is determined to destroy freedom and prosperity by using the government’s monopoly on force to oppress the entrepreneur while rewarding his political cronies! http://commonsense21c.com/

Nothing this man said touched upon the fact that Obama is not doing the job the voters hired him to do. Obama takes pride in awards he doesn’t deserve, lies constantly about his achievements and does not have any of the attributes of a leader! Comparing him to Winston Churchill is like comparing Rep. Anthony Weiner to a sane person! Where did MSNBC find this Chris Matthews wannabe with a British accent?

Obama is definitly not a Churchill, not even close; Churchill identified the main problem on the horizon and helped LEAD his nation in their greatest and finest hour of defiance to a mortal enemy of purest evil.

Obama is not a LEADER in any sense of the word; a crisis hits of epic proportions, and he goes off on vacation or golfing.

I agree. I guess Mr. Bashir felt that being British would give credence to his comparison. What next, a French bobblehead to compare him to DeGaulle? All these leftist pundits that praise his intellect, reflection, etc. make me want to puke, Wake up, he is not sitting in some ivory tower at Hahvahd or UChicago pondering the what-ifs of life, it is reality! While Obama pondered, consulted, dithered about instituting a no fly zone in Libya, Qaddafi was able to turn the tide and, in effect, Obama was setting up another slaughter of people and a humanitarian disaster. While the scenario was unfolding, each day brought Hilary out(Obama was behind closed doors getting his bracketology together) to say that we needed to consult our allies–NATO, the Arab League, the Useless Nitwits….well, all have given Obama the okay and still he ponders. Guess, he’ll do that on the long flight to Rio. I never thought that the day would come when I would say that I feel sorry for Hilary, but it is almost here. She has seen what Obama hasn’t done in Libya and yet she is the one who has to call and chastise the leaders of Bahrain and Saudi Arabia.

The media is all saying give him a break because he only spent 5 or 10 minutes doing this. This where they are all wrong… my concern is not the 5 minutes… it is that he knew all the players on all the teams. How much time does he spend in a day watching basketball in a season? He must spend hours watching basketball, takes a break to play golf, has a concert at the White House and still can squeeze in time to go to Rio. That is not a president… this is someone just having having a 4 year all expense paid vacation. Let’s just pray it does not become an 8 year vacation.

So right you are snow, Obama is no leader. Most certainly he is President, but he is not my Leader, nor do I recognize any ability to be a leader within in him. Yet Something nags at the back if my mind in reference to what we already know about Obama, dreams from his father. What better way to undermine America than to neglect the real issues and to be seen as uncaring as the French aristocracy before Basteele Day? Personally I believe this is all part of a very malicious and purposeful plan to ruin America.

GMAN – I have done a great amount of reading about the World War II era. Churchill did like to embibe and did smoke a lot of cigars. The thing is so did FDR. Why did Bashir pick Churchil and Churchill alone (rhetorical question as I think we all know the answer)?

I find it interesting that today so many will easily throw off the issues far too many of todays athletes have with their personal behavior (”Hey you can’t look poorly at their achievements based on their personal life”) yet this man trashes someone that was such a key to the eventual defeat of the Nazi’s.

      Hey oil robb,
They did a study and determined that people with a british accent are believed to be more intelligent.
      I‘M NOT BS’ING YOU
This study explores the connection between accents and the perceptions they produce, between both native English speakers and non-native English speakers. It assesses the degrees of attractiveness, friendliness, and intelligence of six male speakers as perceived by students from a small liberal arts college in the northeastern United States. The speakers in the study represent the following countries: England, India, Jamaica, Russia, the southern United States, and Mexico.
The study shows that the British accented speaker rates highest in all three categories. The southerner from the United States rates lowest in attractiveness and in intelligence, and the Indian accented speaker rates lowest in friendliness. The researchers pose that the reason for these results are due to attributing stereotypes to these accents.
The Democrats game is up everyone can see the angles
