MSNBC’s Maddow: Keith Broke Rule But Fox News Is Way Worse

Transcript:

You may have heard today that my friend and colleague Keith Olbermann was temporarily suspended from his job hosting Countdown on this network, because he made three personal political donations to candidates in this last election cycle. The reason that resulted in Keith’s suspension is that, here at MSNBC, there is an explicit employee rule against hosts making contributions like that. You can do it if you ask in advance, and if management tells you ‘okay.’ That’s what I understand happened with our morning show host’s political donations in 2006 under previous management. But if you don’t ask in advance for an exemption from the rule, you are more bound by the rule. For the record, the rule applies to us hosts here at MSNBC and NBC News staff. CNBC is not under NBC News, so CNBC staffers are not bound by the same thing.

I understand this rule. I understand what it means to break this rule. I believe that everyone should face the same treatment under this rule. I also personally believe that the point has been made and that we should have Keith back hosting Countdown. Here’s the larger point though. That’s going mysteriously missing, from all the right-wing cackling and the beltway, old-media cluck cluck clucking about this. This is what I think is missing.

Let this incident lay to rest forever the facile, never true, bullpucky, lazy conflation of Fox News and what the rest of us do for a living.

Mediaite’s extended transcript is here.

So… does FOX have the same HR group as MSNBC? The rules that other networks have don’t hold water at FOX! Way too mych hot air in this clip. God help all those who listen to her…must have blood spurting out of their ears!

No one was complaining that Mr. Olberman gave money to any candidate… other then the Liberal MSNBC News… so what in the world is her point. This is still America where you can give to any cause that you want…even if it’s wrong.

It is two different stations and their own rules you moron Maddow. Yes keep running your pie hole and I bet they get rid of you. I find it funny she calls Fox a political action station and MSNBC news. That should make her feel worse since Fox is the only station that brings anything resembling news and truth.

Mad Maddow never misses a beat to bash Fox News, does she?

Sarah Palin is a Fox News Contributor, and she can do whatever she wants. Hannity can defend himself because I don’t know what his contract is.

Beck asking what he can do to help on his radio show doesn’t mean that he is talking about monetary contributions.

Good try, though, Maddow. You are not the smartest cookie on the block.

MSNBC wanted to fire Olbermann for a long time for his continued embarassments…this was just a way to get rid of him in a manner that violated his contract and gave him no method of retaliation via a Human Resources path.

You think that since he is out of work that he wishes he had the $7,200 back?

Excellent post, NOODLE. The house of cards are falling. brokaw, lauer, MADDOW, matthews, o’donnell OLBERMAN, shultz, williams, etc etc. will all be looking for jobs at cnn and shortly after, that house of cards will fall too. NBC Universal and Microsoft (82% and 18% ownership) should, if they want to stay in business, clean up the entire house. Good riddance to all of them. I hope it extremely painful to all of them. They will suffer in the gutter.

Maddow can’t help it, trashing fox happens reflexively. Maybe it‘s a bizarre new form of Tourette’s, instead of yelling obscenities, she/he/it just blurts out “Fox News!”. If you watch closely,(I know it’s hard) s/he does a little shudder whenever those two words ooze out of his/her/its face.

Because Madow is a ***** is her own business. I don’t like what she represents on the news. She is mean, hateful and in clips I’ve seen, she lies or twists the truth. Thank God she likes women, as no real man would look at her twice. The same with Olberman. Several years ago women came out of the woodwork to let people know what a kook he is and certainly not a lover………couldn’t cut the mustard. It reflected in his news programs, a mean, hateful, angry man, like Madow is mean, hateful, angry, awww, well whatever.

Awesome. A no hitter! Not one post that wasn’t argumentum ad hominem.

The reason for that, folks, is that she’s telling the truth and you know it. I’m not saying that FOX is breaking any laws. They aren’t. But FOX is anything but “fair and balanced.” FOX openly fundraises for candidates, promotes their event, donates to, and advocates for Republicans. Say what you want, but you get fired at other networks for that. At FOX you get a raise.

If you say FOX is fair and balanced, I may just puke. Or more likely I’ll just feel sad for our country.

@JSZ: FOX may not be fair and balanced in your opinion, but neither is your argument. Keith was suspended because he broke the rules, pure and simple. It happened in 2006 with another broadcaster of the station so it’s not the first time, and Keith is a veteran at MSNBC and knew better.

If Keith or Rachael do not like the policies, I would suggest they both quit and find a job at news station that allows them more freedoms such as CNBC or FOX. This was nothing more than a lame attempt by Rachael to justify Keith’s actions. However, in reality, I think their choices are limited due to their own bashing of other news organizations.

Do I believe FOX is fair and balanced? Of course not, but neither is MSNBC. To even attempt to portray MSNBC as fair and balanced is ridiculous on it’s face. If you truly want fair and balanced opinions, watch both MSNBC and FOX with an open mind and do your own research, then make your choice of whom to believe based on research of the facts.

One question @JSZ, how long has MSNBC, CNN, ABC, and CBS all controlled the airwaves with one sided liberal speak? This all out attack on FOX is based on nothing but the fact that FOX will not follow and totally agree with liberal viewpoints. In other word, Keith and Rachael want FOX to lose their freedom of speech and join the propaganda campaign to socialize America.

I do NOT like MSNBC nor is there anyone on that media outlet that is a tiny bit conservative, but our US Constitution guarantees us these rights, do they not? Now, if Keith signed something at MSNBC that said he was not allowed to do this (I would never work at a place that forbid me to contribute to anything), then I could understand, but I think Keith gave to something conservative and they found out. Keith should sue and be totally outraged at his rights were violated. This is typical of the liberal left. They want you to support ONLY their cause, or you are the enemy. That just doesn’t go over too well in a FREE COUNTRY. We need to support Keith’s free rights to choose in spite of his personal political persuasions.

Does Keith Olbermann (sorry, DID Keith Olbermann) air before her show? Is she afraid that without the guaranteed too-lazy to change the channel crowd her ratings will drop even more?

It’s cute how she says “I believe that everyone should face the same treatment under this rile.” then she proves herself to be what Laura Ingrahm call a ‘But Monkey’ – she call‘s for Keith’s return as some sort of exception to the rule.

I wonder how many on the left waited for her ‘analysis’ of the situation? Not many, it seems, based on the left’s blogosphere – calls for boycotts of either MSNBC, their advertisers, or both were rampant over at HuffPo, the left’s preferred “absolutely not Astro-turf” free bus provider to rallies…

She did not mention the non opionion folks like Megan, Carlson, O’Reily, Brett, ETC… Why does she think if FOX has no rule for opionion speakers to donate this is any sort of comparison. Oh it is because everyone at MSMBC is opionion. They had to make the rule there due to a complete 100% lean forward agenda toward Socialism. It is all FOX‘s fault or Bush’s or Capitalism. Blame, Blame, Blame.

I also want to say one last thing: CAN ALL OF YOU PLEASE STOP BASHING PEOPLE? Let’s get back to the FACTS. Stop putting people down for the way they look, act, or their lifestyle. IT SAYS A LOT ABOUT ** YOUR OWN CHARACTER **. I read some of these comments on this article and it saddens me that the American people have divided themselves. You can blame everyone else all you want, but the fact is YOU ARE TO BLAME because you DO NOT KNOW HOW TO BE TACTFUL AND KIND. If you don’t like Rachel, then say that. Don’t tear her looks and anything else apart that has nothing to do with the story. It puts you in the same camp as MediaMatters and MoveOn.org. THINK ABOUT THAT. Shame on you all. YOU SHOULD KNOW BETTER. Be civil.

IF you have the time you need to watch your reps’ every move and make sure people know about what they are doing. If a couple of people in each city got together to watch their reps they could do incredible work.

So sad. The whining, childish excuses of the liberal media, especially msnbc, used to make me laugh but now I’m simply embarrassed for them. Remember when you got scolded as a child and you tried to get out of trouble with “But mom, Tommy did it too!”? Didn’t work then. Doesn’t work now. How pathetic that every time someone in the liberal media is called out for something their reflexive excuse is ALWAYS to blame either George Bush or Fox News. Seriously dudes. Show some self respect. Suck it up and move on. If you had half of the integrity of Juan Williams maybe there would be a home for you at Fox News, where opinions truly are fair and balanced.

This is all a stunt . . . Make no mistake about it; this is an effort to create a court, a jury and a hangman.

First Mathews comes out for two weeks and presents an image of moderation and a semblance of sanity; then Olbermann gets put on vacation under the guise of punishment for something he has been doing all along . . . as if ugly and biased support from his mouth wasn’t ever noticed.

But know that these guys are forcing the issue of censorship to be brought to the table. They know FOX and Limbaugh, us, we have to be silenced in order for their liberalism to come to fruition.

The Fairness Doctrine is really the play here; liberals are putting it on the horizon with a series of orchestrated events to create “crisis.”

Stay vigilant on this . . . Censorship is their only hope.

Let‘s see if I’ve got this right. Madcow goes on and on and on about Hannity and Beck endorsing candidates and contributions but waits till much later to say that Fox dosen’t have a contribution rule. But her network does.

Rules are rules bitch. As in when in Rome do as the Romans do. When at Fox obey their rules. When at your pickle factory obey your rules. When in America go by the rule of law and the Constitution.

Oh I called you a bitch? Well that’s milder than calling you a whore which according to the femminazis is OK under certain circumstances. Their rules not mine. I define “bitch” here as an obnoxious female who whines only when her side is getting diciplined but could care less about others governed by human moral principals not animal moral principals. Like a dog in heat without regard to who’s watching or being offended.

Here’s another point Maddow. Hannity gives to candidates that want to defend our Constitution and Republic. Oberman donated to someone who is a Communist party chair who clearly wants to shread our Constitution in the process of overthrowing the system. So Hannity should be decorated and Oberman really should be fired. Period, end of story!

So what’s your problem outside of you probably being next in line to get canned? For the same reason as Oberman was. Being obnoxious and having low rateings. I watched your attached monologue and that is the 1st and last time I ever care to see you. Adios muchacha!
