MSNBC’s Maddow on NPR Firing Scandal: Will GOP Go After Big Bird Next?

During a roundtable discussion on NPR’s controversial firing of Juan Williams and the upcoming midterm elections, host David Gregory asks his guests to conjecture whether the GOP might introduce a plan to de-fund NPR into their campaign platform.
While the Washington Post’s E.J. Dione, a self-described liberal, praises NPR as “one of the best news organizations in the world” with no “political bias”, MSNBC host Rachel Maddow chimes in with her take, claiming the GOP may bring a “culture war” to Sesame Street. (Note how Maddow avoids classifying the Williams firing as right or wrong and instead takes the opportunity to take a swipe at Florida Republican Senate candidate Marco Rubio):
Also note how the panel laughs at the end about how no one could possibly be more conservative than the New York Times’ David Brooks… And they wonder why no one watches this show anymore?
Sigh. I miss Tim Russert.

Posted on October 24, 2010 at 4:15pmJust between us folks, if you think about it for a while, it might not be a bad idea to go after Big Bird after all. If you recall, post 1970 or so, the kids can’t read, write or make change. For us older folk, we weren’t taught by cartoon characters. We laughed at them for a couple hours on Saturday morning. We didn’t need “brought to you by the letter ”D” repeated over and over again all day long, and we didn’;t forget what 2+2 was over the summer, either. Sesame Street and a whole lot of other things may be sacred cows these days, but, when we were kids, are parents probably said “What are they going to go after next, saying a prayer at school convocations? Reciting the pledge of allegiance? Rachel Maddow, and PBS, are not the arbiters of things American

Posted on October 24, 2010 at 4:10pmBig Bird and the rest of Sesame street use public funds to promote private license and profits. All profits from sales does not go to the US taxpayer as it should, but a liberal for profit enterprise. PBS, and NPR, were not good ideas when they were started. They have been used for brainwashing young minds, and need to find their own way.

Posted on October 24, 2010 at 3:46pmYou know, on Sesame Street they were always mean to Big Bird. They never believed him about Mr. Snuffelupogus. That made me mad. Of course, it WAS Sesame Street that taught me there might be a reason not to like somebody from some place else or because they’re different. I remember watching when I was about 5 and there was this new boy Luis from Puerto Rico (Puerto Rico was the big deal back then) and everybody was all like, you shouldn‘t be mean to Luis just because he’s new and different. Even at the age of 5 this didn’t make sense to me. I was thinking, why WOULD you just automatically be mean to someone who is new and different? Is there something usually wrong with new and different people? I didn’t understand why you would be mean to a new person, new people are exciting. New and different are, well, DIFFERENT! People naturally like things to be new and different. I didn’t care much for that show, I really only liked Oscar and the count (and BB and Snuffy of course : ). You know, it IS true that people usually accuse others of things they do or feel themselves.

Now that I’m grown-up it’s so crystal clear what a lib show that was. I finally GET it.
OTOH, I always enjoyed Mr. Rogers and Captain Kangaroo. I always felt they better reflected my American values. The dumbed-down Sesame Street seemed to me like it was written for idiots with ADHD, and moochers, and drones needing to ‘nudged’ into a certain PC perspective.

Posted on October 24, 2010 at 8:38pmWho is David Brooks? I don’t read the liberal New York Times and I have never heard of him.
If their example of a conservative is someone I have never heard of then we really have a problem in this country, and if that is representative of New York “debate” then I now understand how the media is so out of touch with the American People.
Man!!! Do these people ever have a surprise coming. Even if this election is not a landslide 2012 has to be, because I doubt you will see things getting any better for Obama personally. The country may get better, but as things start to go more our way he is only going to reveal himself as more & more out of touch. A Clinton he will NOT be – not in his genes.
By the way – Rick Santelli (who was on that panel) is a very fiscally conservative democrat, he just did not address the Juan issue because he does not think that way. If they had asked him a policy question he probably would have dropped a few jaws.
Rachel Maddow, though, is not an analyst. She is talking head like Olbermann and does not deserve a spot on Meet the Press.
