MSNBC’s Martin Bashir Confronts Occupy Supporter Over Anti-Semitism

Martin Bashir, the British-born MSNBC host with a knack for asking inflammatory questions, decided to host hip hop mogul Russell Simmons on his MSNBC show yesterday. The topic of conversation? Occupy Wall St. Or more specifically, the anti-Semitism that has been seen down at the NYC encampment.
Mediaite recounts the relevant portion of the interview:
“There’s been some reporting that anti-Semitism has begun to emerge and…” Bashir began. Simmons incredulously interrupted, “Can you repeat that?!”
The interview had initially begun amicably, with Bashir asking multiple softball questions before completely gobsmacking Simmons.
“Well, anti-semitism,” Bashir repeated.
“Can you repeat that?” asked a mystified Simmons. “Where’d you get that from — Bill O’Reilly or somebody?”
“No, let me show you,” Bashir said. “A group called the Emergency Committee For Israel has released this advert, watch this.”
Bashir then showed an ad we brought you on The Blaze showing examples of anti-Semitism (featuring an interview I conducted down at the protests), and calling on the president to stop standing with the protesters. Simmons brushed it off.
“I go down there every day and I see sweet, compassionate and astute people,” he said. “I see the people who have high aspirations for America who are idealistic … I see the most inclusive group America has to offer.”
To Bashir’s credit, he did press Simmons a little: “I just have to press you on this, because this Emergency Committee would not have put a video like that together and posted it if there weren’t sufficient images, and that seemed like multiple cases of people being deeply offensive.”
In a round about way, Simmons admitted there could be “infiltrators” in such a large crowd and blamed the former incidents on a few rogue protesters while repeating that the crowd is generally “sweet,“ ”astute,“ and ”smart.”
After Simmons then challenged Bashir to go down there and see for himself if such a sentiment exists, Bashir backed off: “I have been down there, and I didn’t see any of those signs.”
That may be true, but what Bashir seems to have missed is that anti-Semitism has popped up at at least one other Occupy movement in the country.

Here’s some choice quotes from the smelly OWSers who are so hopelessly indoctrinated and poorly educated that they equate being jewish with capitalism:
OWS Los Angeles: Teacher Patricia McAllister said- “zionist jews… need to be run out of the country”…that teacher was fired by the way.
“You’re a bum Jew.”
“You’ve got the money, that‘s why you’re fightin, Jewish man.”
“You can’t even speak English, you Israeli, go back to Israel.”
“The Jews Control Wall Street.”
Their rants against Jews reminds us of Karl Marx, the father of redistributive wealth and social justice, used Judaism as the “yardstick of evil” against which to measure all economic disparities.
Ahh….no wonder a college education is so expensive today…look at the quality of the students it produces. Althought the smelly OWSers would rather not pay at all.

Posted on October 19, 2011 at 9:25amThere is no need to wish death or engage in murder fantasies about one’s political enemies. We need to be better than they’re being right now, and frankly the vast lot of them are idealistic kids who don’t know squat about the world and have yet to experience harsh reality. I’d hate to see any of them hurt, even by their own doing, and find it highly un Christian to hope for their demise. They’re human beings. Misguided, easily led by the nose human beings granted, but human beings nonetheless. “99%” of them will grow out of this in time and feel ashamed for how they acted in their youth, and I will at that point welcome them into the community of realistic people as I’d most here would. Wishing for their death, or cackling that one wouldn’t shed a tear over a loss of human life, is rather barbaric.
I mean no offense to you, honestly, but I just don’t get the urge on the Right (and Left) to gleefully anticipate human bloodshed. Again, we have to rise above that and be better people than they’re being right now, and lead by example.

Sure. And I see the same thing on Leftist oriented boards.
The onus is to educate and guide, in my estimation. As I mentioned yesterday, I’ve tried with the Left, and had some success prior to and just after 9/11/2011, but since ~2006 or so I’ve encountered nothing but bile and rage from the Left with a full brick wall, full stop, non-listening attitude (my way or the highway in other words). The Right has the same rage, but I’ve found them far more receptive to calm reasoning once they calm down a bit.
If you have time, go find the quote by James Carville as to why he’s a consultant for Democrats and not the Right. It’s enlightening (sorry, don’t have space to quote it here, silly Blaze post length restrictions).

Posted on October 19, 2011 at 10:07am@Lumbar,
I suspect that our experiences differ due to me not being a Leftist. Every group is sympathetic to it’s own kind. While I’m not a conservative either, libertarianism is far more sympatico with the Right than the Left these days (didn’t used to be this way, now it is sadly). When I indicate reasoning with people I’m speaking directly to reasoning with them on positions they might disagree with, from a perspective outside of their comfort zone. Of course I can get any Leftist or Conservative to agree with me on things we share as common ground (Leftists; end War on Drugs, no draft, accepting equal rights for all regardless of their gender or sexual preference, etc. Right: ending gun control, being against taxes, being pro-free market, etc). These days though I have success in discussing “out of comfort zone” items with the right (anti-war, anti-WOD,etc) where I find absolutely no give from the Left on topics they’re not comfortable with.
Just my take on things.

This is OWS
“Our research shows clearly that the movement doesn’t represent unemployed America and is not ideologically diverse. Rather, it comprises an unrepresentative segment of the electorate that believes in radical redistribution of wealth, civil disobedience and, in some instances, violence. Half (52%) have participated in a political movement before, virtually all (98%) say they would support civil disobedience to achieve their goals, and nearly one-third (31%) would support violence to advance their agenda.
The vast majority of demonstrators are actually employed, and the proportion of protesters unemployed (15%) is within single digits of the national unemployment rate (9.1%).
An overwhelming majority of demonstrators supported Barack Obama in 2008. Now 51% disapprove of the president while 44% approve, and only 48% say they will vote to re-elect him in 2012, while at least a quarter won’t vote.”

I am willing to bet that some wonderfull religion of peace folks will do so-egged on by what they think is all Americans wanting this garbage. They have no clue how many of us will stand up to the the fools in Washington and vote them out. I attended, foot on the ground, Tea party events here in central Ohio. Didn’t see one racist sign, and I tend to notice (and openly confront) people with racist beliefs.
The only “racist signs” I saw were signs without people attached to them flashed on MSNBC, all strangely unverified.

Posted on October 19, 2011 at 10:03amGoat: Don’t forget the verified emails of a certain Jason Levin who specifically called for the Lefties to print racist signs and take them to Tea Party rallies. This entire “movement” has been based on the soul-less tactics of old Saul Alinsky who credited the Devil as being the “first real radical.” A movement so misguided and so anti-spiritual.

Posted on October 19, 2011 at 10:36am@goat The left considered any sign that mentioned getting rid of Obama as racist. My main point is that the media made sure to highlight every sign they considered racist. Yet, we have numerous audio and video clips of anti-semetic remarks and their is almost no mention of it on the main stream media.
