MSNBC‘s O’Donnell: ‘Union Boss’ Term Is Racist When Talking About Obama

Analyzing a new Republican ad that urges voters to “stop Obama and his union bosses,” MSNBC‘s Lawrence O’Donnell was shocked Friday night by the message’s apparent racism.
“The Republican Party is saying that the president of the United States has bosses… that the unions bossing him around. Does that sound to you like they are trying to consciously or subconsciously deliver the racist message that of course — of course a black man can’t be the real boss?” O’Donnell asks his guest, former Michigan Democratic Gov. Jennifer Granholm.
“Wow, I hadn’t though about the racial overtones,” Granholm responds.
Maybe that’s because there are none…?

I’m a licensed counselor & we have to do so many hours of continuing education every two years, one being a class on cultural diversity. The last two times I’ve gone to such a class (both sponsored by Georgia Southern University- who hosted Bill Ayers a few weeks ago), the message I got out of the class was “if you’re white, you’re automatically racist”(white privilege). This year, I got the flyer & now they’re going to discuss “heterosexual privilege”. I e-mailed them & told them to remove me from their mailing list because of the Bill Ayers thing & that I would NEVER participate in anything that Georgia Southern sponsors or is a part of again.

I actually saw that ad on the news earlier this evening, and did not even consider the idea of any racial overtones.
This man should think more carefully before he speaks. Unless of course he is intentionally trying to stir up racial divide. In that case, he is the racist and should be ashamed.

The news item was commenting on the many messages of concern and support from the USA (mainly) through sites such as this one and showed actual screenshots featuring these messages. I’m not sure if the Blaze was included, but I expect that it would have been as they seemed to be showing quite a selection while the anchor was speaking. As I say, unfortunately I didn’t see the whole item.
Anyway, thank you to all Blazers for your kind words and thoughts. It may seem a small thing to you guys, but it means a great deal to us.

When Mr. Stern was the titular head of SEIU, his name appeared the most often on the WH visitors’ log. Both of whom have had FAR MORE contact with Mr. Obama than even members of his own cabinet who have neither spoken nor met with him in over TWO years to say nothing of the members of the Republican party.

Did Clinton have “Union Bosses”? He’s white, so does that mean that “of course – of course a WHITE man can’t be the real boss?”
Of course not – besides, any sane person would understand that the phrase “President Obama and his union bosses” could just as easily be taken to refer to them as peers, partners in whatever they are doing together.
This reminds me of all the talk about Obama’s race, how he “doesn’t look like the other presidents”, etc – they accused the right of saying those things, but I NEVER saw any tape, transcript, or reports to support the claims.

When was the last time an American president said he would be on the streets with the union’s to demonstrate.Obama is stooge to anyone that will vote for him and give money,he is an “equil opportunity” whore,it has nothing to do with racism.
You know I can‘t imagine what these clowns on the MSM are going to do when Obama and his bootlicker’s are voted out in 2012.Won’t help the job market,that’s for sure.

I don’t know about “a lot” but I did meet one guy who said that he was fed up with the US and wanted a nice socialist country to emigrate to, and he chose New Zealand. Boy, did that make me feel special – not.
We do have a slight socialist tinge in this country that we can’t quite seem to shake, much to my irritation. But we are a democracy, so those of us who are right of centre just have to live with it, I guess.
We have a new prime minister now and I am hoping for better things from him. We’ll see. Regardless, I am not planning to leave as I love my country, warts and all. I have travelled long and far in previous days and I find every country has its pluses and minuses. You are guys lucky to be Americans, but, as you note yourselves, America is not a perfect place.
