MSNBC’s Schultz at One Nation: We ‘Must Fight the Forces of Evil – The Conservatives’

“They talk about the Constitution, but they don’t want to live by it. They talk about the forefathers, but they want discrimination. They want to change this country. And we, as one nation, stand up this day and say ‘We will be there on November 2nd. We will not give up. We will continue to fight.’”

    What is so evil about wanting everyone to have individual liberty?? Equal rights for every American, not just union members, not just Democrats or Republicans. Our rights, our dreams, our strength comes from within and from nature, not from a small group of elitists.

      The evil come into play because of the personal responsibility that comes with having freedom. The “elite” don’t think we are smart enough to make our own judgements. They must make them for us and protect us because we can not protect ourselves. They call it Government Regulation, but the truth is it is “Society” Regulation. The only way they can make it a “bad way of thinking” is call it evil. This is where the “fear” come into play. They tell people conservatives mean money goes to big business and the wealthy, the poor, the elderly and the sick will be left to die on the streets if we don’t have “Government Regulation”! What is sad, people really believe that thought process. Today our youth really believes this process because of the “Government Regulation” of our public school system. I am looking for a Presidential Candidate ready to take our school system….PRIVATE and give it back where it belongs….in the PARENTS control!! If we could educate all people on what is happening…the United States of America would be so….Blessed. I mean think about it, Hillary Clinton wrote a book….it takes a Village….well that is true, we need to watch out for each other, but what she really wants is the Government to watch out, protect and provide…I vote for my neighbors, family and friends to have my back, not our Government!

If those gathered there, especially the young ones, really knew what they are doing, they would never be there. I am tired of all those who are looking for a free ride, what they give up is not only freedom, but the true joy of like which is in the experience of it all. DITTO!!!!! I am watching this to try and understand their focus. So much blame everywhere, but where it needs to be. So many have ruined opportunities for themselves and children by buying into entitlement. If the 18 year old whose parents were deported and left he and his brother–if they want they can apply for American citizenship, go through the steps while they achieve their education. Jobs, jobs, jobs mantra by J. Jackson–look to our President Jessie. Instead of making a priority of jobs and economy, he focused on ‘Social Justice’ agenda. –so everyone is equal. give a man a fish or teach him how to fish. There are sooo many things I cannot address them all! Like Steve I can hardly wait for GB’s assessment on Monday (actually, it would probably take him all month) Whine, whine, whine—this is what you owe me is the cry. Check out how your unions have messed you over–including teachers union. Close the Dept of Education,Get rid of ‘No child Left Behind’ (a failed direction as teachers spend hours teaching to the test.) as well..I am eager to see the documentary re ‘Waiting for Superman’ Mr. Canada and Mr. Comer have turned their community education system upside down and performing wonders with our nation’s young people. I could go on and on—the stridency is appalling! By the way, I did not think our Nation’s flag was ever to touch the ground–even at Lincoln’s memorial. My job is to support the education system–this is part of the answer. Not all, however. All I see from today’s rally is perpetuating Division instead of coming together. And ‘WHERE was GOD’???? thank you

MSNBC mentioned the groups supporting this event, but have failed to mention The US Communist Party, and the US Communist Youth as two of the organizations backing this event. None of the groups involved in this event including The White House seem to mind being associated with an event sponsored by a Communist Organization.

      Is this a tacit admission on your part? At any rate, I distinctly heard Mr. Ed defend the progressive agenda in the name of “the people.” I don’t think you can get more ad populum than that.
      And this “I‘m assuming you don’t know much about logical fallacies” business. You might want to do some looking up of your own concerning the fallacy in **that** kind of insinuation.

      @Mintyfresh
      I’ll concede both sides use fallacies. When progressives say that conservatives are “outside the mainstream,” that’s also argumentum ad populum. One must be careful, though. Just because so-and-so happens to construct an argument based on a fallacy, that does not mean that the argument is incorrect. (To conclude that it does would make you guilty of a non sequitur!) It only means that the particular individual has failed to prove the case.

      Either way, I‘m not sure Labeling is trying to say that because Ed Schultz’s popularity is smaller than Glenn Beck’s, therefore Ed Schultz’s politics are wrong. He may be merely saying that more Americans support the politics of Glenn Beck than the politics of Ed Schultz. That’s a very different point altogether, and in this case the comparative ratings are directly relevant to the point.

      Non sequitur — a conclusion that does not follow from the premises. (It is thus defined in chapter 6 of Stephen F. Baker’s _The Elements of Logic_, 6th ed.) Premise: X has used a logical fallacy. Conclusion: X’s argument is false. Non sequitur, for the reasons I stated: It’s not that his argument is false, only that it is improperly arrived at.
      I’m not sure what Mintyfresh thinks a non sequitur is, nor am I sure what he thought my own understanding of the term was. But I understand it the same way the logic textbooks define it.

      Posted on October 3, 2010 at 5:27pm

      i never said the argument was correct or not. therefore, i don’t see how a non sequitur could occur. my statements had nothing of that in them. therefore, i assume if you either don’t understand the term (perhaps fallacious) or don’t understand my statements.

      @Mintyfresh
      Maybe I misunderstood your statements–I can concede that. Anyway, I think the spirit of my original statement about non sequiturs was not to say that you were guilty so much as to say that I hoped you were not.
      But maybe we’re both assuming a little more than we should–easy to do in a forum where comments are brief and quickly typed and we can’t always be as exact as we would like.
      Fun to talk about logical fallacies, though–one of my favorite subjects–and hope you haven’t mistook for rancor what was really only passion.
