MTV Embeds With Protesters for TV Special: ‘True Life: I‘m Occupying Wall Street’

MTV True Life: Im Occupying Wall Street

Many say MTV hasn’t had the same impact on mainstream pop culture since the network shifted from music videos to reality TV. Monday’s announcement may be the icing on the cake to some of the network’s detractors:

“It’s one thing to watch footage of the Occupy Wall Street protests on TV and hear the nightly news pundits give their two cents on the global movement. But what if you could live among the protesters and get a real sense of how the Occupy movement is taking shape and why it’s become a phenomenon?

MTV did just that, embedding with the protesters for an upcoming ‘True Life’ special set to air Saturday, November 5, at 6 p.m. ET. “True Life: I’m Occupying Wall Street” will visit the financial district sit-in and profile a group of 20somethings who‘ve pitched their tents amid the skyscrapers of Wall Street to see how they’re feeling about the event.”

MTV provided an exciting clip of the upcoming special. As you can see, the new edition of “True Life” will have an ample amount of fist pumping in comparison to the network’s hit “Jersey Shore.” But unlike the tanned stars of the latter, this group isn’t covered in bronzer –  that’s real dirt:

Get More: Music News

The announcement comes one week following a craigslist post calling out for Occupy Wall Street protesters between 20-24 interested in becoming cast members for the network’s staple reality franchise “The Real World”

True Life first premiered in 1998, and in each episode provides a “window into the struggles, hopes, and dreams of young people” through different individuals reflecting their experiences and cultures in each hour-long episode. Past episodes have included young people suffering from different diseases and social disorders, to a group of friends enjoying a summer share house in New Jersey (which led to the Jersey Shore), to the most recent episode “I’m a text-a-holic.“ The network writes of the upcoming special:

The special episode will take you to the front lines as MTV cameras follow three young people who get swept up in the political movement that has quickly grown into a global phenomenon.”

The special will introduce viewers to Bryan, one of the leaders of the Occupy sanitation team, as well as college students Kait and Caitlin, “who are so worried that they won’t be able to find jobs after graduation that they set out to recruit their friends to join the cause as they work to keep spirits high among the occupants.”

What do you think of MTV’s decision to produce and air such a special. Will it be a flop, or gain a huge audience from supporters and critics of OWS alike? Does it glorify the protests and protesters?

Oh yeah, when i want the truth the facts and gritty realism. I turn to MTV. The network that brought us The Real World, The Hills and Jersey Shore are pretending to be hard hitting journalist of substance. Just a food for thought but when the poster children for your network are the socially retarded Snookie and Situation. You can pretty much right off anyone taking you seriously, ever….I mean ever. Then again their target audiance have the collective IQ of a fruit fly so they will pretty much will believe any horse crap MTV dishs out. Thus the success of Jersey Shore, The Hills and The Real World.

You are right about everything you said here. MTV should change to CTV for Crap Television. I used to like some of their stuff back in their very earliest days. Bet I haven’t put that channel on in at least 20 years.

I would dare say that without MTV, there would be no President Obama.

Three decades of brain washing young people of America with filth has done the left a huge favor and helped send America toward destruction. I am so thankful my parents never allowed such filth in our home.

I have blocked so many channels that push the progressive propoganda issues. The people that will be interviewed will be chosen and carefully programmed to push their agenda. Unfortunately the younger people in this country will be watching this and so the brainwashing continues. Most have already been indoctrinated by their college professors. This is a war against capitalism and our freedoms . Not to mention the middle class, which are the backbone of our country. The very poor,(some by choice) and the very rich can both be easily manipulated by the progressives. The poor by promising freebies through brainwashing them into it. And by convincing them they can have it all without working for it., the rich by the temptation of remaining the elite that are exempted from the struggles of every day people. We all know that the rich can cover their assets and their A$$ES as well, the poor think they deserve what the rich have and look at this as an opportunity and consider it is owed to them. Put those two groups together and it squeezes out the middle class. I am amazed at the number of programs that push the progressive agenda. Between TV , the internet, the unions, and the newspapers the progressives have most of the bases covered. We need to seek out a better way to get our message across. Right now they want to shut down FOX and talk radio so we no longer have a voice. This includes the the movement to discredit all Christians. We can not give up our future is a stake.

Hey protesters; I find all of you a waste of time space and oxygen. I would bet if you added the entire IQ’s of the group together and divided by the number of protesters, you would have a negative number.
Protesters; I know this math thingy hurts you brain, so I will make it really simple

You wasted the money you spent on an education; you should get your money back.

Why are they called MTV? They havent played aq music video in about 15years! They even rolled out MTV2 to do so but thats all stupid shows like this too! Know what I love most the hypocrisy of the network. A long time ago they are all about freedom of speech and then started tugging the reigns hard on Mike Judge over his little show called Beavis&********.

If you were a fan you know the show was edgier in its early days then after some whining the network all about rock the vote and speak your mind censors a cartoon! MTV is so pathetic they now make this move to get viewers and to show how desperate they are they are bringing B&B back! MTV mgmt is joke always been wish Judge would have gone to another network in bringing the boys back! Glorifying this fake movement plays right into their typical propaganda machine though, its what they do, its what they always do for at least 20yrs!

Someone ought to let them know about Becks show tonight so they can see firsthand err rather see the devils hands at work at their precious OWS! TAPGW http://tinyurl.com/yhglscs

Japan’s disaster was horrific. This administration has said and shown many times that don’t let a crisis go to waste. How about Cash for Clunkers and wash machines, dryers etc.? According to a Fox News report, millions of tons of debris is heading & reaching Hawaii in 2 years. Salvage ships pick up debris and get cash from Obama and he will claim to have created and saved thousands of jobs. Hey, put some of the Wall Street protestors on the ships (don’t have to wash etc. and beat their drums 24/7) and some would think Obama is giving them a free ocean cruise.

Better yet, watch it with her and be ready to rationally explain what is wrong with their “causes”. Have material ready to contrast the OWS crowd’s behavior with tea party gatherings. Be ready and empower your kid to wade through the cr@p. They will find it attacking their minds elsewhere and they’re going to need to be ready.

Yes Kait and Caitlin are “so worried they won’t be able to find jobs after they graduate” that they want to collapse the financial system that funds and sustains any potential employer. Furthermore, Kait and Caitlin find it more productive to sit around, beat on drums, defecate on doorsteps, carry signs..ad nauseum than attend to their schooling. Train? Meet Wreck. The white washing of the marxist occupation by the media continues. We already know that so called journalists are helping the stinky protesters to formulate something approaching coherence now MTV is working on the PR and to take their marxist dream on prime time. Folks….the leftist media will fight tooth and nail to further their agenda and keep Obama in office. We have a fight on our hands, the left is a wounded animal and it will not go down quietly. The wisest thing is stay vigilant, keep the tea parties out of the OWS protests and make sure our representatives know about us next year.
