MTV Scraps Reality Show About Young People Losing Their Virginity

MTV Scraps Reality Show My First About Losing Ones VirginityJust when it seemed as though MTV couldn’t push its moral boundaries any further, reports are emerging about a proposed show with a premise that makes “Jersey Shore,“ ”Teen Mom” and other related programs look tame. The show, disturbingly called, “My First,” was supposed to follow young people as they prepared to lose their virginity.

While the show was looking to cast individuals who were at least 18 years of age (i.e. people who are “of age”), the values associated with it are certainly questionable — so questionable that even the network has backtracked on the project. The casting call, which is not currently present on the MTV Casting web site (it was likely disabled), makes the network’s original intention to capture “sexual firsts” clear.

“Do you want to take things to the next level? Like, are you ready to hand over your V card? Or do you have a friend who is ready to lose it? Young adulthood is a time for exploration,” a posted casting call for the show read. “New relationships, fresh experiences and sexual firsts. Now MTV is looking to frankly capture that journey in a new series called My First. We’re looking for adults who are ready to go all the way. Let MTV come along on your journey… as you try to lose your virginity!”

Here’s a screen shot from the casting call, below (via Fox News):

Certainly, these words alone are controversial enough. But what about the themes embedded beneath them? Consider the implications of a network offering to essentially assist young people (albiet people who are of age) as they embark on a sexual expedition. One assumes that these individuals would be paid to take part in the program, which only makes it even more surprising.

In a statement to FOX411′s Pop Tarts column, an MTV rep dismissed the show and its subsequent removal from the network’s casting page, saying, ”This was a preliminary casting notice, and we’re not moving forward with a pilot.”

Of course, following intense controversy, such a reaction is to be expected. Even actress Patricia Heaton (“The Middle” and “Everybody Loves Raymond”) got in on the mix, calling MTV’s decision to originally pursue such a show “so incredibly depressing.” Heaton, known for her conservative, Christian worldview, wasn’t alone in criticizing the network.

“This is part of the media attempt to mock people who have morals and to treat virginity like a disease that must be cured,” said Dan Gainor, vice president at the Media Research Center. “Network programmers won’t be satisfied until they are able to hold live gladiatorial combat on air with the audience voting on whether the loser gets to live.”

Of course, this isn‘t the first time the network’s intentions have been questioned. “Skins,” a show that aired briefly on the network last year, was accused of bordering, at moments, on child pornography. Considering that young people watch the network — a factor executives must be aware of — the continued push for such morally-questionable content is intriguing.

So, I’m gonna guess that part of the reason they scrapped the show idea, was that virgins are getting a little hard to find these days, unless you want to go check out the kids in preschool.

Maybe MTV should do a show called “CHILD SUPPORT” where a sexually promiscuous 17 year old gets his 15 year old girlfriend pregnant.

Then, once the baby arrives and he’s dragged into court to provide for his child, he finds out that just about EVERY CENT HE’S GONNA EARN FOR THE NEXT 21 YEARS is going to be paid directly to his ex-girlfriend, even a couple years from now when she’s shacked-up with a new guy who’s using his child support money for booze, drugs and steaks. Tough luck sucker.

Even at a measley $500/month support for one child, in 21 years he will have shelled out enough money to buy FIVE brand new Mustang GTs.

And remember, since he won’t get custody, this comes out of AFTER TAX earnings. He’ll need over $725 a month in gross income to have enough left over after taxes to make his $500 child support payment.

And if the court’s doing their job, he’ll ALSO be held liable for providing HEALTH INSURANCE for his kid. Even at Kaiser rates, we’re talking another $400 – $500 per month and that’s in effect until his kid reaches the age of majority.

Wow, this sucker’s going to be a QUARTER MILLION DOLLARS IN DEBT, and he’ll NEVER get reasonable visitation, holidays, or any kind of a relationship with his child. Such a deal!

Hey MTV, you want to do something useful? Teach kids the REALITY that there are CONSEQUENCES for your actions.

From a music television angle that MTV started out as. the ratings there proved that there ain’t nobody watching. So MTV went into outrageous reality stuff and the latest push is the Deflowering of Young people to prove some sort of moral point. But MTV didn‘t pull it they’ll find another outrageous method of pulling in viewers.
I’ve watched with amazement when my daughters put on MTV. The males on this show are more female than females. The word term of “ metrosexual ” is not lightly described by the lack of masculinity of these so-called males on these shows. The lack therefo of any male entity within these twits is unbelievable. No wonder inner city females cheat on the inner city male partners. Heck, most of these guys don’t know how to pee standing up. And when they do they need bike helmets for fear of SoccerMom Syndrome.

Nahh…. I am not really suprised that some TV execs. somewhere thought this would be a good idea.. (Hell I am sure they come up with worse all the time..) What should shock all of you, is that I am sure people would have acctually sent in applications for this…

MTV and BET like to prey on young minds and corrupt them beyond all meaning. I would be willing to bet my life that MTV and BET are more responsible for the dumbing down of our youth, than our educational system is with its horribly low standards…

Because in the end, you all have to admit, your children have learned more about behavior from MTV and BET than they have learned from their actual peers in school. I can’t tell you the last time I heard a kid say, “I want _____ because Billy in my class has it…” Now all I hear is, “I want ________ , because they dumb girl of Jersey Shore has one…”

If you all want your children to grow up with at least an ounce of sense… Block MTV, and BET, and make the only channels your kids can watch a news channel, History Channel, and the discovery Channel…..

They will go alot further in life if you do…..

Nahh.. You want in virgin in the U.S. nowadays, you will have to become the creep trolling the elementary schools… It was bad about 15 years ago when I was in school… My little sister is 10 years younger than me, and I remember having to teach her boyfriend a harsh lesson as to why my little 7th grade sister was not to be touched…

Kids spend too much time watching MTV and BET, it warps their brains, and makes them stupid. If your child can tell you the names of the latest 10 hit songs, but can’t tell you the names of the last 5 presidents and how long they served, then you have failed as a parent… Its time to take stock, and care about your childrens future… If you don’t, no-one else will..

And for those of you out there that do (the 5 or 6 maybe left in the U.S.) good on ya…. Keep up the good work.. Your kids may hate you know, but they will love you for it later..

Is entertainment so devoid of originality that they would stoop to the level of sexual voyerism and Peeping Tom tactics to get ratings??….What a pathetic and un-inspired display of ‘creativity’…and these mental midgets get paid big bucks to sit around and think this nonsense up…pre school kids have more imagination than most of Hollyweird.

MTV has long been anti-marriage, anti-heterosexuality, pro-premarital sex, pro-promiscuity, pro-abortion and, in general, a liberal propaganda machine. Whether they every air this anti-virginity garbage is beside the point – the fact that they planned it reinforces what we already know about MTV.

Young adulthood is about preparing oneself for the rigors and responsibilities of life and the joys that come with being self-sufficient and reliable. Only in Progressive-liberal-hippie-land is it about about slutting around and “exploring”.one’s body. And we can’t figure out why each generation is less able than the previous? Thanks MTV. Thanks Hollywood Media.

I agree – the problem is kids should be thinking about finding a job and starting their own families when they are 16-18, not getting govt condoms so they can have sex and go to Georgetown resort and law school until they’re 32.

In case you haven’t noticed we have been delaying maturity later and later into adulthood. I have friends that waited until they were almost 40 before having a kid.

Society is broken, sexual peak is wasted on juvenile masturbation and free college sex modeled after internet porn and when it come time that they finally marry, they have little desire or passion in intimacy, they are just “getting off” together.

We need to expect our kids to act like adults before they turn 18 and expect them to plan their future and their family sooner. College has become like a crack house, luring people into wasting 4 years of their life when the degree they get will take them nowhere. Get a job and go to night school if you really want to get a degree – or read a book!

What is their agenda – to get young people hooked on sex, drugs, and every immoral action possible? Heaven forbid that anyone make programs that lift expectations and elevate decency. Strive for high grades, save yourself for marriage, get a good job (if that is possible in this Obama economy) and live a life of service in humility to your family, community, and country. Is that the impossible dream?
