MTV Screens Obama Town Hall Audience for Political Views, Good Looks

A planned MTV “town hall” for Obama is being pitched as a way for the president to reach out to young voters with tough questions as the midterm elections draw closer, but a casting call posted for the event suggests it will be a carefully crafted event, complete with hand-picked audience members based on their stated political views and physical attractiveness.  MTV Screens Obama Town Hall Audience for Political Views, Good Looks

The casting call requires hopeful youngsters to submit “a recent photo and short description of [their] political views,” in order “to ensure that the audience represents diverse interests and political views.”

Kelly McAndrew, a spokeswoman for Viacom, which owns MTV, told Politico that the screening was aimed at attracting a diverse audience.:

“We’re just trying to get the broadest, most diverse audience possible,” she said, denying that either Republicans or ugly people would be screened out. “We want to have divergent points of view – we’re not looking for a single-view audience.”

“We’re going to have a very diverse looking audience,” McAndrew said. “We want gender diversity, we want ethnicity diversity, we want religious diversity, we want political view diversity. We want diversity of all kinds.” (emphases mine)

It looks like they are going to work really hard to make sure this event is diverse.

If they want to draw a crowd, they should have Joe Biden do a town hall meeting with free rein to crack jokes about everything.. Then have Nanci Pelosi explain how food stamps grow the economy by turning a $1 food stamp into $1.57 investment in America. Better yet, how that $1 food stamp cost $3 taxpayer dollars to produce.

I would think that a diverse audience would be a group that can think for themselves instead of being told what to think. The only kids that won’t be represented are the entrepreneurs…they will be too busy making money!

This taking astroturf to a new level. Will the attendees have to go through an audition in front of “American Idol” judges or will their headshots be viewed by Tyra Banks? I guess they’re afraid of having some student ask if he could use Food Stamps at the college cafeteria.

So now the media not only wants to make sure President Obama “looks” good, they want the audience to be an effective and attractive backdrop … This is just what you would expect, the media conspiring with the campaign to make sure the “presentation” is most effective. Who cares about the truth? Who cares about the voter being informed on the difficult issues facing the country? Apparently, neither the campaign nor MTV … just make sure it “sells” the President and the campaign to young minds effectively … Not a surprise, maybe a disappointment, but about what would be expected… sigh …

I hope President Obama makes it clear on MTV that, as a result of the work (and possibly the assassination) of Dr Martin Luther King Jr, ” Blacks won back their equal rights under the law.”
Were he to even suggest otherwise, it would be an admission of not only guilt and failure, but regression of “Equal Protection” under the law during President Obama’s own administration and the Democrat controlled Congress.

That does seem to be aiding in their downfall however so I say, keep it coming Barack! The Ron Paul video…i guess i just believe that if Ron Paul was back in the days of the American Revolution, he would’ve been one of the voices opposing war with Great Britain. That keeps me from being a libertarian. i feel that in regards to our country’s safety, as my football coach used to say “the best defense is a good offense”. I also believe there are times we need to step in and help our allies. Sorry libertarians.

Maybe that’s how to get rid of him. Send him to Hollywood to star in a film and he can continue to rub elbows with all his buddies. It will be the reverse Ronald Reagin. I can see it now, “Take 2010”: “Uh, uh, uh Mr Spock, have we destroyed the planet yet?“ ”Take 2011. Try again to eliminate the uh, uhs”.

      @ JOSEPH8

Joe, fact is, Ron Paul, while a good man and the best guy out there in office right now, is not fully what you’d call a libertarian. There is nothing wrong, in the libertarian world, with self defense. The notion of “be calm, be peaceful” when somebody is smashing you in the face, does not belong to libertarianism. The Founders didn’t sit down, be quiet and be submissive. They dressed as Injuns and threw tea in the harbor, then took up arms after it became clear that they were being ignored and oppressed. They were, for all intents and purposes, libertarians.

No, there’s no reason to assign pacifism to libertarianism. Though some of the “hippies turned libertarian” tends to want to view things that way, most don’t. I for one believe in the old fashioned American notion of NEVER starting a fight, but ALWAYS finishing one. Lots of my fellow libertarians seem on board with that stand as well. And fact is, the fight is starting now, and we didn’t “hit” first. After November, the Left will go almost immediately to violence I’m betting. No right minded libertarian would choose pacifism if that happens.

      Just an FYI.
