MTV Teen Mom Arrested & Jailed for On-Air Assault and Neglect

Amber Portwood, a 20-year-old teen mom MTV star surrendered to police Monday afternoon after being charged with three felonies: two counts of domestic battery and one count of neglect of a dependent. In addition, the “Teen Mom” star faces one misdemeanor count of domestic battery — all stemming from footage aired on MTV which showed her repeatedly punching and hitting then-fiance Gary Shirley, the father of her toddler, Leah.

The reality television star is now behind bars in Indiana with bail set at $5,000.

the issue is obvious here – while I respect this young lady for choosing life sheis clearly not ready to parent – if she has any love for that child at all she will contact a REPUTABLE adoption agency and give her little girl an opportunity for a life with parents who not only LOVE her but can provide her with
stability. I think this show is a double edged swords – it shows the issues with unprepared parenting – but it also encourages young women like amber because they are PAYING her to act like that

The boyfriend should be commended for his restraint, also for showing the world how bad that woman really is. I don’t watch MTV, let alone shows about teen mothers, I just think that teen motherhood should not be glorified with celebrity and exposure. This may be culturally incorrect, but the last thing I wanted as a teen was a kid, I want to have kids one day but that will be when I have the ability to provide the time, finances, and energy to raising the children properly. Too many teens don’t think of the consequences of sex until it knocks em in the gut.

Take the baby from her and give it to the boyfriend. He shows the self control necessary to raise a child.

One day when I couldn’t find anything else to watch I watched a marathon of this show on MTV. Gary may be a bit of a lazy slob, but it was obvious he loves his little girl. Whenever Leah was with mommy she was fussy and cranky, but as soon as daddy came around she was all smiles and happy. He’s a good daddy and deserves custody of his little girl. He has a good heart, and I don‘t know why he put up with Amber’s crap.

Domestic violence law has some basis in fact, but it has also been another racket that the left largely uses to break up families and batter innocent fathers and men. The teen mom’s hubby is lucky the cameras were rolling or at some point in his relationship, he’d have been the one charged with d.v. A woman word is all that’s needed. I have a real problem with the trend of late that allows using YouTube/“Reality TV” clips as the basis and often sole probable cause for the filing for criminal charges, These are often scripted and edited to make the acts seem more dramatic or to change the story or narrative, so no crime may have actually been convicted but it seems so, and may seem so to a jury as well.

Further I have another problem with the “State” being able to file battery and assult charges when there is no complaining witness.

If there is a complainant, which does not seem to be the case here, the footage can be used to SUPPORT charges stemming from the complaint filed by a victim, but for the state to just assert itself when there is no complaining victim is where the problem lies

I can’t agree completely……. What about a victim that is too scared to complain? How many times have you heard about charges being dropped and/or the acused gets off because no one would testify? Probably wouldn’t be an issue in this case but we have no way of knowing that. I dislike “big brother” as much as anybody but the weakest among us need protection too. Since the parents seem to be MIA who would you suggest stand up for the baby and even the ex-boyfriend?

Women’s domestic violence against men is grossly under reported, while male victims are still routinely being ignored by the taxpayer funded domestic violence industry. Credible research overwhelmingly shows that the ratio of domestic violence is at least 50/50 between women & men. Go to Fiebert Bibliography. According to one study by researchers who work at the CDC, in 70 percent of domestic violence incidents, where the d.v. is not mutual, it’s women who initiate the d. v. Go to Respecting Accuracy in Domestic Abuse Reporting. Click on the link under the red & blue pie chart. D.v. law follows a gender feminist agenda over facts & does great harm to many innocent men & also many violent women. Go to Youtube, “Los Misandry.” http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SAmOxvudpF8

In reality, the taxpayer funded domestic violence industry is riddled with politics and I praise “The Blaze” for showing the world what’s going on.

Domestic violence will never end as long as the whole truth about it is misrepresented to comply with feminist ideology. V.P. Biden recently called violence against women, “the very worst abuse.” The very worst abuse is valuing one life less than another for having been born the wrong gender. Under domestic violence law, the wrong gender is men. Shelter and services are virtually non-existent for male victims of domestic violence. Options out of a bad relationship, that women have, are often not available to men. Men wind up gender profiled and falsely accused by the taxpayer funded, domestic violence industry, because of gender feminist ideology controlling the d.v. industry. Men are often battered by domestic violence, and then battered again by the taxpayer funded, domestic violence industry as shown in “Los Misandry” at Youtube. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SAmOxvudpF8

Deaths of little children, killed by their mothers is egregious, yet the taxpayer funded, domestic violence industry disingenuously tries to make us believe that women don’t abuse men too. According to the U.S. Dept of Health and Human Services and DOJ statistics, more kids are killed by neglect and abuse in a year (1,760 in 2007), than all the female intimate partner homicides in a year. Mothers are the single largest group of kid killers, according to HHS, and they have a rate twice that of fathers. Nowhere near the money is spent to protect kids from kid killing mothers as is spent by the domestic violence industry to protect women. The taxpayer funded d.v. industry is a bastion of misandrist vilification, falsely accusing men of being the overwhelming cause of d.v., and empowering violent women to commit further domestic violence. The corruption of the taxpayer funded, domestic violence industry is characterized in “Los Misandry” at Youtube. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SAmOxvudpF8

According to liberal feminists who reside in (and largely own) the Democrat party, “The evil Patriarchy made her do it!” According to them, she‘s the victim and needs to take a stand and assert herself against men’s historical and ongoing oppression(s). I attended a wormen’s studies lecture at UCLA, and during the lecture women would stand up and scream and shout – just like they were taught to do by their Professors in their Women’s Studies classes. Of course, after they graduate the only jobs they can get are in the taxpayer funded, or subsidized, women’s industries: domestic violence, sexual harassment, women’s law centers, offices of women’s health, etc.

Beck should do a study on how much is spent on these programs compared to men and what the actual needs are. TALK ABOUT MONUMENTAL GOVERNMENT WASTE and unequal treatment under law!

Are you saying, like most true liberals in this country, ANGER out of control is something that cannot be harnessed? I’ll let you speak to a few men who once ran uncontrolled onto a battlefield and are around to tell us about it!

The child has not been harmed to this point. I would indeed allow the father to take care of his child and I would give the girl no alternative except for anger management and possible long term therapy. Far too many times, father’s are lost by the absolutely unobjectionable liberal family courts. That is how it is in Pittsburgh at least. As a father of six, and I have raised them all, I have teh experience to talk and the absolute proof of a father’s love making everything alright.

You got that right zap. I was in an abusive relationship and was asaulted by my girlfriend, I was the one arrested. When it finaly went to court, she admitted to the whole thing, but at that time it was to late for her to be arrested, not to mention the cost of getting the records erased so they don’t show up on back ground checks. The laws for domestic violence are very unfair. They give the woman in the relationship far more rights and far more leway in getting away with abuse. And 9 times out of 10, the guy gets arrested even when all he does is stand there and take it.

I know a man in FL, who reported being assaulted by their ex; and, the ex did in fact get arrested, not the guy. He even managed to get a temporary restraining order against her.

It can be done; but, needs to be done the right way.

The right way to do it, is probably NOT to call 9-1-1, unless it really is an emergency.

You remove yourself and children from the situation; then, get help from a lawyer, and file a formal complaint.

Witnesses and/or video can help greatly.

Going off half cocked is never a good idea anyway.

Well, as a 49 year old father of six from 19 to31 and as a conservative American I do indeed watch this show. I find this particular show to be extremely hard hitting like a slap in the face. I am quite surprised more conservative Americans like myself do not find ‘Teen Mom’ a very fundamental portrayal of the alternative to abortion. These kids are indeed main stream Americans and I absolute applaud the producers of this show for laying it all out there as far the difficulties of having children unprepared in our world. It reminds me of me! It reminds me of exactly how our struggles do indeed make us what we are. I am far, far from the perfect parent. Some times this show rings so very true to many common experiences we may all have.

The following link gives a good summary of the whole mess Ms. Petkov ended up in, including the loss of her own children to her ex-husband, her husband’s subsequent job loss and now an assault charge. The links will take you to the various videos that are associated with the case.
