MTV to Air Special on Pregnant Teens Getting Abortions

After showcasing dozens of teen mothers on the cable network’s “16 and Pregnant,” MTV now plans to air a special on would-be teen moms getting abortions.

According to Entertainment Weekly, the special report will air three days after Christmas — Dec. 28 at 11:30 p.m. — and will follow one “16 and Pregnant” teen mom as she debates whether or not she should have an abortion to end her latest pregnancy.

The special must come as welcome news to blogger Jessica Valenti who has encouraged MTV to help “destigmatize” the practice and wondered earlier this year, “Where are the pregnant teens who choose not to stay pregnant? Where are the abortions?”

I realize that it’s controversial to document a teenager who decides to end their pregnancy, but the fact is that nearly a third of all teen pregnancies end in abortion. But if you were to watch MTV, you’d never know that – you’d think all young women choose to go through with the pregnancy. …

If MTV wants to take the lead in a national conversation about teenage pregnancy, they have to tell the whole story.

The teen abortion special, titled “No Easy Decision,” will also feature Hollywood doctor extraordinaire Dr. Drew Pinsky who will talk with young women who have already had abortions. MTV sources say the documentary will cover all sides of the issue, including the importance of contraception and the devastating effects of facing such a decision.

I have avoided this post for a long time but I can’t take it any more. I am (was) (and will be forever) a single father of 2 kids and raised them by myself for seven years. They were 3 & 6 when I received custody. After seven years of single fatherdom I decided (in my ow selfish ignorance) that it was the mothers turn… WHAT A HUGE MISTAKE! I‘ll be cleaning up the mess well past the 20’s for one, the other should make it out OK with at least some self respect, drive and determination. My ex wife had NO IDEA what having children really meant. She was just keeping up with the Jones’es and if the truth be told she wanted to stop me from divorcing her sorry a$$, pregnancy was her only option. I was planning it but her 7th sense kicked in. Why bring kids into the world if you can’t give them a chance to be productive, smart, whole individuals that have a chance at a happy, love filled complete life. Why complete the process If you can’t give a kid the time , love, attention and affection every child needs? I have met women that target men for alimony and child support from the get go… I’ve had 3 women try to extort money from me on the basis of pregnancy… It is always a pleasure to see the look on their face after they see proof of vasectomy… what is really unbelievable is when they press the issue. “They don’t give these scars out for free” and by the way here is the receipt for the procedure and the doctors phone number, and if you want I’ll gladly do the DNA test… That is when they fade, and thank god for that. You want to see a change in world population and responsible parenting… Develop the technology to let Men decide when to activate the “Shot”… The world would be a much different place, and welfare would not be the embarrassing situation it is today.

I know I’m going to take heat for this ladies but you know what, I’ve been the single Dad cleaning up your, princess mess for a long time…so frankly bring it on. I have had to balance kids, no show spouses and missed sales meetings that make or break a year…or Christmas… or a Birthday… “If you can‘t do the time don’t do the crime.” I can hear it now… “If you are going to play you better be prepared to pay” …. Please spare me, Thank God as men get older the power women have over us diminishes and the age of viagra, vasectomies, condoms and the realization that humans have been having sex for fun since the dawn of time sees the light of media day. Just like dolphins.

Human nature has not changed since the birth of Jesus or we crawled out of the ooze, take your pick. This will never change until you take the biological clock and the power of creation decision from women and put it in a venue where both have the power to finalize the decision to commit to be parents, and bring children into this world with at least better than half a chance.

I should probably mention that I was adopted, and @ 48 I now find myself taking care of my 84 year old Father… a Privilege that I am both sorry and grateful for… Only those that have been there can understand that statement but the bottom line is my parents worked hard to have children, The after thought and embarrassment from one split second mistake turned out to be the savior and pride of another couple. Don’t let that message fall on deaf ears either.

You truly love your kids so try not to beat yourself up too bad because you turned them over to your ex and it worked out badly. I don’t think you would have done that if you thought it would be that way. You are trying to rectify the mess you claimed happened and I think you will be able to as long as you keep your eye on your objectives. In many ways, I think you are right about a man being in the position to avoid pregnancy. There are women who truly don’t mean for that to happen and there are those that do. Hollywood is a good example of women going with a famous actor and winding up pregnant then getting supported for the rest of their life. Raising kids alone is hard. My ex seemed like such a stable guy, but turned out to be a slacker that didn’t seem capable of keeping a job. Just didn’t like to work. I went out on my own with them as I felt I would work to support my kids but not a grown man who was too lazy to keep a job to take care of them. He promised me everything under the sun when he knew I made a decision to leave and take the kids, but I knew he would never change. As far as “if you can’t do the time, don’t do the crime”. With the divorce rate over 50% in this country and a lot of people that are staying together even though they don’t want to, not too many of us are in a position to throw stones. And “if you can’t pay, don’t play”, easy to say that to someone else. “Let him without sin cast the first stone.” I think you really love your kids and are doing the best you can, so just keep plugging along and do the best you can each day so that they know you are there for them. That is the way I make it. ONE DAY AT A TIME! GOOD LUCK AND GOD BLESS! MERRY CHRISTMAS AND HAPPY NEW YEAR TO YOU AND YOURS!

Hmmm, it’s Christmas, the day we celebrate Jesus’ birth…

(Things get all wavy as sarcasm filter turns off)

DAD: I don’t know what to do. Look you made your mother cry. Mary, you’re only 14. And pregnant, now? And that no good Joseph claims he isn’t the father? Is he able to support you? Great Abba, he’s a carpenter and we live in a desert. A desert. And now he wants to drag you across the courty to his home town. At least he’s letting you ride the ass. I don’t know. Maybe… 14 and pregnant, oy.

    (Pausing and seeing MTV)

DAD: Mary, I think it’s probably best if you get an abortion. The rabbi will do it. And he won’t, I know a good Roman doctor.
MOM: You could have married a doctor, but no.
DAD: It’s settled. You’re getting anabortion for–
    MARY: His name is Jesus.
DAD: Fine, You are going to abort Jesus and that will be the end of it.

    (Sarcasm filter on)

    Happy Abortsmas, everybody

Until we change our culture from one of a feel good, throw away society, we will not only throw away all the junk we accummulate but kids will continue to see nothing wrong with throwing away their unborn child. If they really wanted to address the issue of young women who have abortions they would do a documentary following up with women who are in their 30′s, 40′s or older and who have gone on to marry, have families etc. and discuss with them the long term psychological effects they have suffered as a result of the uniformed decisions made as teens. So sad these girls can’t find the emotional support from their families to make the truly brave choice.. adoption.

Maybe they have a more realistic view of things than you. They know that that might be the right choice if you’re white and can be pretty sure your kid will be adopted by a good family at a very early age. If you’re a minority and you know that you could be throwing your kid into the foster care system, which is a complete crapshoot – they could have a wonderful childhood or a complete nightmare, then I’d have to say that failing to make up your mind in time to abort is the coward’s way out.

I hate to say it, but sometimes feeling pressure and judgement from peers is not exactly a bad thing, though I feel documentaries such as this likely spin it as a bad thing. Yeah, other teens may judge teens who don’t take precautions, but that is part of social dynamics which actually have a purpose in life, such as putting social pressure on others not to do stupid things. I realize the liberals would like to erase all such social dynamics, even though this is part of our nature as humans and are there for a purpose

I’m having trouble picturing this. Are they a heavenly host of fetus spirits eternally blind, mute and mindless because they remain -4 months old forever? Do they appear as they would have if they had been born, which isn’t much better, since all a newborn can do is eat and cry? Do they still look like half-formed babies but develop a wisdom and insight beyond human comprehension? That’s kind of creepy! Or do they somehow grow up in heaven into the spirits of the people they would have been? In that case, aren’t we doing them a favor? It’s hard to believe heaven could be a worse place to grow up than some dump with a stressed-out, irresponsible teenage mother. If you grow up in heaven you must turn into the best possible version of yourself. Hardly anybody on Earth does that. I notice that you have them all in heaven. If they had been born and lived a full life surely a lot of them would have turned out to be creeps and ended up in hell.

Who, if anybody, decided to target teenage girls and make their lives miserable? Apparently it is OK for them to have sex, but not to get an abortion, spend the rest of their lives without a childhood and make birth control information minimally available. For those of you starting to rant about parental responsibility, forget it. Those parents who have minimal contact with these girls or think it is OK because they did the same thing themselves aren’t going to have much influence anyways.
Apparently, it is hard to get across to these girls: have sex, get pregnant, life is a b***h. Has anybody noticed the number of babies and young children being killed by parents. This is retroactive abortion. The entire situation is heartbreaking!
Teenage girls need to get the message that they are in control of their lives and “popularity” is less important than bringing a life into existence. I don’t have the answer, I hope somebody does.

I have known three women who had abortions. One said it bothered her but it was better than the alternative…not a great home life. Another used it as birth control. I believe she is up to her 4th. And yet one more still has nightmares after almost 30 years. It is not a light subject and to put it in the realm of a “reality” TV show demeans the subject. Parents, aunts, uncles, cousins, friends need to talk to these children and explain to them the “realities” of real life.

Abortion is the decision to murder of a human life. The old saw that young women who get pregnant – and their “illegitimate babies” -are forever disgraced in society died a long time ago. So what is the excuse to kill a life, so full of potential? It seems that too many women and girls find it too inconvenient to soldier through a pregnancy and create a new person? Especially when so many yearn to adopt and would gladly take on what is to these women, a burden. Shame on how our children have been taught since the lousy 60s.

Now everywhere i turn the dial i get some reality show, AMERICA WAKE UP stop watching this crap, now dont get me wrong abortion is bad, VERY BAD, but we need to stop watching other peoples lives on the tube and get out and start living our own lives, its a sad fact that young people can name all the names of the people on jersey shore and almost NONE of then can name the vice president of the United States.

As parents we NEED to turn off the tube and get out side with our kids and grandkids and play with them and talk to them, be involved with their life‘s and maybe then we will have less teens with baby’s they dont want.

      I’m not pro-abortion. I am pro-choice. I am an independent.

Is the fetus a living entity, yes. It is also attached to the mother and relies on the mother to live. If the mother does not want to continue this relationship with the fetus, she should have the choice to have it removed. When science comes out with a procedure where the mother can have an abortion and the fetus removed and implanted into a wanting mother, then let it be so. Until then, the mother has certain property rights to her body. She has the choice as to what goes on within her body.

Do I support the choice for abortion? No. I have two kids myself and could never think of the possibility of aborting them. I wouldn’t recommend abortion to anyone. If it happens, that is for the mother to decide. Not you.

      @AMERICANSOLDIER
“She has the choice as to what goes on in her body”. Where does “personal responsibility” enter this equation? It takes a specific act for a woman to become pregnant. She won’t get pregnant by drinking from a dirty glass. She won’t get pregnant if someone sneezes on her. She won’t get pregnant by sitting on a dirty toilet seat. She will get pregnant if she has sexual intercourse with a man. That’s it. If she does not want the personal responsibility of having a baby, then she must abstain from having sex. If it sounds like I am being too dismissive of the woman’s rights, please understand the conditions of the child. Do you realize how barbaric and cruel an abortion is? Do you know that a federal judge has ruled that despite medical evidence showing that a baby feels pain during an abortion, that little fact should NOT prevent a woman’s right to “choose”? Do you know the procedures used for an abortion? If these same techniques were used in capital punishment cases, they would be labled “cruel and inhumane” and thus un-Contstitutional. I know that you said that you do not support abortion but that you support the woman’s right to choose. I also support a woman’s right to choose whatever life or lifestyle she chooses but when it involves a baby, she is not the sole consideration in that decision. Where is the “due process” for the baby? Who advocates for the life of those children?? More than 50 MILLION in the United States alone since Roe vs. Wade was decided in 1973.

@HLLBILLYSAM1 Of course the girl has the personal responsibility to live up to her decisions of having unprotected sex, or of being raped, which ever the case may be. Look, we’re still about individual liberties here right? It is her body. Who are you to say someone shouldn’t enjoy sex? Married or not married, this is America. You cannot force someone not to have sex just because they don’t want kids. The fetus is growing within the womans body, it is her choice whether or not to continue to let it grow within her. If the fetus can grow without the mothers concent outside of the body, so be it. Until that day when the fetus can survive outside of the womans womb, it is the consent of the mother whether it incubates further in her body and continue to take resources from the mother.

@HAPPY KILLMORE Well, I can’t judge you on your choice of MOS if you spent that much time scrubbing toilets. What does the amount of service you have compared to mine have anything to do with the subject of Abortion vs Pro-Life vs Pro-Choice other than to attack me personally because you really can’t argue my logic. I understand where you stand in protecting the life of a child. I believe children, although under the jurisdiction of the parents, must be protected to a certain extent from the negligence and stupidity of the parents, but until that fetus is capable of surviving on its own or there’s a procedure (payable by the wanting mother) to transplant that fetus to another women who wants the baby, I don’t believe you or I have the right to tell a woman she must continue to have the fetus grow inside of her. It is her body, her property, her life. Not yours. Again, I understand your concerns for the future baby but like I said, if it can survive outside of the mothers body, then go for it.

And I won’t be against more “humane” procedures if that’s your main concern.

Ah, yes, the “her body argument”. What brilliant “logic” that is. Taken to its ultimate, literal conclusion, since the “fetus” is still attached to its mother by the cord and receiving blood through that cord then it is “still part of the mother’s body”. Thus, if she wants she could pick it up and dash is brains Lady MacBeth style no problem should she decide to. This is your “logic” American Soldier. Meanwhile, I was just watching teenNick(elodeon) with my kids, they were watching a kids show, and saw a commercial for DeGrassi, which is a teen show. There were 2 teenage boys making out and then 2 girls making out. Since when is it appropriate to show this on TV? I must be really old fashioned- I don’t want my little kids- none who are teens yet seeing this, just goes to show you that you really gotta watch what your kids are watching or one day they‘ll be exposed to things you don’t want.

Boys as couples and girls as couples is the Socialist Liberal Progressives No Label Leftist answer to avoid pregnancy, leads to depression and then suicide.

All as a result of eliminating God from public education.

Public schools are inundated with sex ed, condoms, public health services, etc. There is absolutely no excuse on God’s green earth for any teen to get pregnant except for carelessness and irresponsibility, period. Presenting something as serious and traumatic as abortion as nothing more than another form of birth control only puts another nail in the coffin of the valuing of life in our culture. We are doomed.

I think it’s worth noting that many of the pro-choice argument is that some women are raped, concerned about their own health or the health of their baby. Although an arguable point it’s a distraction, to say the least, from reality.

Interesting to note that if you look at statistics for abortions, in 2008 0.3% noted their reason was for rape. That’s right, there is a zero and a decimal point in front of that “3.” And it’s a percent…as in 3 cases out of every 1,000.

98% of abortions in 2008 were elective. Link to the study is below.

      http://www.johnstonsarchive.net/policy/abortion/abreasons.html

Those that are pro-choice exceedingly point to exceptional cases as to why abortion should be legal. And often they have a very arguable point regarding these exceptions. But the exception proves the rule. Get real, your exceptions are an excuse and distraction to the truth.

Correction, these numbers are for 1987, but the rest of the numbers for years to follow are there and they don’t change much.

God help us. God forgive us. You can be arrested and tossed in jail if you abuse or kill animals, but it’s OK to kill human babies??? I’m not advocating killing or abusing animals. All I’m saying is, when did animals get higher priority than human beings?

Abortion is murder! These young girls have no morals when it comes to sex. Skrew around and you are used merchandise. Who wants anything used? Not decent young men. Secondly, these gals who think they can abort a fetus to end it all are fooling themselves. They will live with the sadness and horror of losing that child for the rest of their lives. They will find no peace within themselves from that day forward. I have a relative who proves this, all because she thought she could kill her baby. How sad! No wonder there is little peace on earth these days Aborting a baby is, is, is, is MURDER.
