BOGOTA, Colombia (AP/The Blaze) — Soccer fans are crying fowl over kicking an owl. In fact, they’re crying a lot worse.
Panama defender Luis Moreno is facing sanctions after he kicked an injured owl that landed on the field during a game Sunday when his Colombian club Deportivo Pereira was playing Atletico Junior.
The owl is a mascot for Atletico Junior and was being treated Monday at a veterinary clinic in Barranquilla. The bird is expected to recover from a slight fracture of its right leg.
The owl had landed injured near the corner of the field when Moreno walked over and kicked it about three yards. Atletico Junior fans shouted “murder, murder.”
Moreno said he did not know the bird was a good-luck charm for the other team.

Posted on March 1, 2011 at 11:59pmJust kick the stuffing out of a living being with no regard. “I didn’t know it was a good luck charm” exemplifies the depth of evil in your heart. What are you 9 years old? The “star” ought to be assigned a seasons worth of community service in an animal clinic so he can experience first hand the depravity of the human disregard for Innocent life. Maybe that would be good for his soul.

Posted on March 1, 2011 at 5:38pmHe could have waited until someone came with gloves to remove the owl. Did he actually think that an owl would land there just for the hell of it? There was actually NO EXCUSE for his malicious behavior. Just as there was NO EXCUSE for Michael Vick’s behavior.

Posted on March 1, 2011 at 2:34pmso this guys reaction to seeing an injured animal on the field trying to get back up is to kick it? He’s a piece of garbage. He needs a good kick by a kangaroo. Ones treatment of small helpless animals is an indicator of their character. He is a coward. He has been exposed and his ex-fans will give him a rough way to go.

Posted on March 1, 2011 at 9:33amPEOPLE! It‘s a freakin’ owl! Did you see the players run past it? It almost got stomped! They aren’t endangered. They aren’t friendly… in fact they will peel your skin off and pull your eyes out if given the chance! They are birds of prey! Even if this one has been domesticated, it is like a “domesticated” lion. If given the chance, they will harm you.
“No bueno?” Ha!

Posted on March 1, 2011 at 9:59amSo because it eats meat and hunts it’s ok to kick it for the hell of it. Anyone in your family eat meat and go deer hunting?
Report Post »smithclar3nc3
Posted on March 1, 2011 at 1:18pmHey avg. they’re not endangered yet but their number far less than they were 100 years ago. Nature needs it’s equalizers and predators whether owls, cougars, wolves, bears, snakes are the equalizers. Not to mention that they’re really interesting to watch. As a HUNTER IN AREA’S KNOWN TO HAVE Bears, cougars, the occational wolf pack and coyotes I could carry an addtional side arm when bow huinting as I’m vunerable out of the stand. I don’t I carry mace so predators can be predators even after attempting to attack me. I’ve only have had to use it once on a couple coyotes a few years back. It works and works well. And I don’t have to eat coyotes because killing something and not eating it is sinful.

Posted on March 1, 2011 at 6:09amWhile I was deer hunting last year, the forest floor was alive with little birds, chipmunks, and squirrels going about there business. Then about 50 yards away, this BEAUTIFUL owl landed on on a tree branch. Suddenly, all was still. hahaaa. Every critter immediately went into hiding.

Glad the owl was not injured more seriously and that he will be okay. I doubt that Moreno will be okay, though.

Posted on March 1, 2011 at 2:37amSick, some human beings have no right to be called human or even being. Some, even soccer players are less than even the creepy crawlies and the slithery slimy reptilians, or bugs in the dirt.

Posted on March 1, 2011 at 2:50amAbsolutely. How the hell do you get the idea “Oh, an owl! Let’s kick it!”? What a jerk.
Good to hear the Owl is going to make it though.

Posted on March 1, 2011 at 5:48amThat was just plain sick. How can anyone hurt another living creature, but when killing human babies is smiled upon by today’s society, who cares about an owl?? Really more care about that owl than a baby in the womb. Sad. so sad.

Posted on March 1, 2011 at 3:42amWhy anyone would deliberatly want to harm an owl I cannot begin to fathom; after kestrals and falcons the owls are among my favorites of the birds of prey to look at and once in a great while, see in the wilds…even rarer there is some spotted here in the city.

Posted on March 1, 2011 at 11:47amI;ve got an owl that lives behind my house and some nights that sucker hoots alnight and that drives me nuts but I would never hurt it in a million years. I’ve walked right up within 10-12 feet away when it was watching the ground for a mouse or mole moving through the ivy under my dogwood trees. It turned its head looked right at me didn’t make a sound an went right back to scanning the ground.
