Muslim Girl, 14, Lashed to Death for Alleged Adultery

  • 14-year-old Hena Akhter was found guilty of adultery and sentenced to 101 public lashes under Shariah law.
  • She died from being flogged — despite Shariah law being outlawed in Bangladesh — but doctors tried to cover that up.
  • Her family claims she was raped by a cousin.
  • Police are now investigating the incident.

Up until her last breath, young Hena Akhter declared her innocence. But that didn’t matter. The 14-year-old Bangladeshi Muslim girl was lashed to death, accused of adultery.

The imam at the local mosque said she was guilty of having an affair with a married man. Her family said she was raped. The imam disagreed. He ordered a fatwa: 101 public lashes. She lasted only 70.

CNN reports:

Bloodied and bruised, she was taken to hospital, where she died a week later.

Amazingly, an initial autopsy report cited no injuries and deemed her death a suicide. Hena’s family insisted her body be exhumed. They wanted the world to know what really happened to their daughter. [...]

Hena was the youngest of five children born to Darbesh Khan, a day laborer, and his wife, Aklima Begum. They shared a hut made from corrugated tin and decaying wood and led a simple life that was suddenly marred a year ago with the return of Hena’s cousin Mahbub Khan.

Mahbub Khan came back to Shariatpur from a stint working in Malaysia. His son was Hena’s age and the two were in seventh grade together.

Khan eyed Hena and began harassing her on her way to school and back, said Hena’s father. He complained to the elders who run the village about his nephew, three times Hena’s age.

The elders admonished Mahbub Khan and ordered him to pay $1,000 in fines to Hena’s family. But Mahbub was Darbesh‘s older brother’s son and Darbesh was asked to let the matter fade.

Many months later on a winter night, as Hena’s sister Alya told it, Hena was walking from her room to an outdoor toilet when Mahbub Khan gagged her with cloth, forced her behind nearby shrubbery and beat and raped her.

Hena struggled to escape, Alya told CNN. Mahbub Khan‘s wife heard Hena’s muffled screams and when she found Hena with her husband, she dragged the teenage girl back to her hut, beat her and trampled her on the floor.

The next day, the village elders met to discuss the case at Mahbub Khan’s house, Alya said. The imam pronounced his fatwa. Khan and Hena were found guilty of an illicit relationship. Her punishment under sharia or Islamic law was 101 lashes; his 201.

The man, Mahbub Khan, escaped after receiving only a few lashes.

Shariah law and fatwas have been outlawed in Bangladesh, says CNN, but that hasn’t stopped imams from issuing them. Some human rights groups have documented up to 500 such cases in the last 10 years.

Despite Hena’s death, there appears to be some sort of justice on the horizon. Police are now conducting an investigation, and the doctors responsible for Hena’s initial autopsy face charges for falsifying their report. The country’s high court already stepped in to order her body exhumed, which led to the real cause of death: internal bleeding caused by massive external injuries.

Earlier this month police stood guard at the home of Darbesh and Aklima Khan, Hena’s parents. They fear a backlash from the community for speaking out against the imam.

“She was innocent,” Aklima, Hena’s mother, said. “I’ve nothing to demand but justice,” Darbesh added.

      And ya know – it’s true. Israel is not the problem. You need to read some non-PC history about the region – covering the complete last century. Israel was given 13% of the British Mandated area, and the other 87% was given to the Arabs to creat Jordan, Syria, Iraq & Lebannon. Israel got a tiny sliver – and they have been attacked since 1948. Israeli Arabs have more freedoms, rights, and are more educated than Arabs living in Muslim Arab lands.

      Not being snarky, but you really need to learn the facts of the history of the region before commenting.

      If anyone can remember the movie “ the passion of Christ” when he was being whipped, those images were ingrained in my mind to this day. Muslim or not, I believe this girl is in heaven. I don’t cry at movies, but I was weeping like a little girl seeing that type of torment of a person… let alone Jesus. When I read this story, It immediately brought back the picture I have in my head of the scene with Jesus… But I saw this girl strapped to that wooden pole instead… horrifying.

      Amen Brother! I have it tattooed in Arabic on my arm. As a result it has sparked some conversations with middle eastern Muslims at my gym (I live in a college town). I was told it had two meaning by one of them; “I will not give up” and “I will not be a Muslim”.       We must stand with Israel, and write/Email our elected official’s in Washington to request they also ensure that America stands with Israel.
      Find your Congress and Senator‘s Email or ’Snail’ mail address and contact them on a regular basis to ensure they know how we the people feel on this issue.

      The kicker of the whole thing is that the reason that Muslim men ALWAYS blame the women for sexual misconduct is because they believe that men are too WEAK to resist. That’s why they cover women up with burkas, that’s why women who have had any kind of interaction or even look at a man that is a non-family member are considered prostitutes and how the men always manage to escape from any kind of punishment. The men can’t help themselves, the women must be contained because they have all the power.

      So, with that framework, a 14 year old girl had more power than her 30 some odd year old married man, who was helpless to deal with her sexual alure.

      Got that? Think about it. Think about it carefully. If you hear Geraldine in the background saying, “The Devil made me do it!”, don’t be surprised.

      Our family prays every night at 8pm central time. We light our candle and get on bended knees together.
      We ask all to help us, with the power of prayer, we can do all things. We ask for answers to how we can spread the word to all people being deceived by the Muslim Countries, our own Government and the Liberal Biased Media. Obama has forsaken them, but we have not.
      Israel is a loving peaceful Country and only protect themselves from those that will slander them and do anything to kill them.
