Muslim or Christian? Dome on New Church Causes Confusion in Phoenix

The new Light of the World church in Phoenix would like to make one thing very clear — they are not building a mosque. Sure they have a dome, but it’s a fresh, new Christiany kind of dome:

Since the distinctive dome shape went up, church leaders said they have received phone calls from concerned neighbors who’ve mistaken the building for an Islamic mosque.
On Wednesday, church officials hung a sign reminding people they’re Christian congregation. “We‘re trying to let people know that we’re Christian and our churches are modern,” said Uzieo Martinez.

Here’s a pic of an islamic mosque. I think it’s in Michigan. Not sure exactly as I had opened the pic in a new window and then jumped away from the original page.

Now here’s a pic of a Greek Orthodox church near Indianapolis, Indiana.
    http://www.holytrinityindy.org/Portals/3/Images/newchurchwide.jpg

With the exception of the crosses on the domes, it looks more like a mosque than the pic of the actual mosque. But after looking at a few other Greek Orthodox churches they seem to lean toward the domed style of architecture. I’m just used to Christian churches looking something like this.

They have been very effective at usurping the icon and associating it with Islam. Look at the response the construction of a dome has attracted. Most people don’t even really know why they object other than “it looks like a mosque”. They never stop to think how an import architectural form that existed before Islam, has been usurped.

The sign of Islamic dominance over a region is when the minarets are constructed not domes.

The usurpation of symbols and architecture is a part of Jihad. This church should sport a dome. They are great big open spaces. Do not allows Islam to usurp an architectural icon that is not theirs!

I am sick of seeing the increasing numbers of islamic mosques in America, and I know I am not alone. We are a CHRISTIAN country, and WE THE PEOPLE are not about to let islam pull off the same crap they have done in Europe and especially France. No way! Enough is enough, and don‘t think Americans don’t know who exactly are responsible for increased security at airports, the pat downs, etc. As American moves forward in taking our country back from the socialists, one of the things we must brace ourselves for is stop pussyfooting around with islam. We are war with islam, period and the sooner more of America wakes up to that fact, the sooner we can send it on its way.

Many of the ancient churches had domes. There is nothing distinctively “Islamic” about a dome. Now a minaret would be a dead give away! Good eye though to the folks in Phoenix. Now if you can just spot those illegals

The whole point of domes back when the first large churches were built was that it was the strongest building that they could make with the technologies that they had. It was predicated on the same theory as an arch. The weight would flow towards the center with all sides then being able to support it. Some of the largest domes even went as far as to have smaller arches within the dome to disperse weight even further. A perfect example of such an ancient cathedral that still stands is the Hagia Sophia (Aya Sofya) in Istanbul which dates back to the Byzantines. For a modern church to do so is no big deal as far as I’m concerned and, unless the architects say otherwise, it may even have been inspired by such.

One thing people need to get straight. This is America. They (the progressive left aka the democrat party) wants us to be “tolerant” and “inclusive”. This is fine as long as those things fit into the American Ideal and cause no harm or weaken the country. People that come here and expect the country to change into something other than The Constitution dictates, need to leave or get tossed out. We won’t tolerate lawbreakers that tresspass on our land, and that is NOT a race issue, it’s a legal and moral issue. We need citizens that follow the laws and have honor and integrity. Those that sneek in by lying, cheating, and stealing, though would be model democrats, are not good for America and have already domonstrated a lack of honesty.

“We should insist that if the immigrant who comes here in good faith becomes an American and assimilates himself to us, he shall be treated on an exact equality with everyone else … But this is predicated upon the man’s becoming in very fact an American, and nothing but an American. … There can be no divided allegiance here. … We have room for but one sole loyalty and that is a loyalty to the American people.”

No, MrButcher is the confused one. He still cannot explain to me how all this just happened by chance, but our best science cannot create life, or even restore life to something that has died. Why not Mr Butcher? Everything is there. The body is there. You can put new blood into it. You can put new air into it. You can even put nourishment into it. Where does the life come from? Some cosmic soup? If it all just happened by chance MrButcher, why can’t we create it?

How about the universe? How did precise organization such as the orbits of planets come out of a bang? Every explosion I’ve ever seen, has only ever created chaos, not precision. How did skunks develop their smell? How did different animals develop different kinds of eyes that work only for them? How could different animals each develop their own defense systems, by chance? How many different animals had to die, before they figured out how to develop their defenses? Why doesn’t a snakes poison, poison the snake?

No MrButcher. Everything is wonderfully designed and everything that is designed, has to have a designer. I can put every part of a watch into a box, and it will never come together, by chance to be a watch. Everything is there. All the parts are just parts, until someone puts them together. Someone had to design the parts. It would be a whole lot easier to just humble yourself and ask G-d to make Himself real to you. He’s not afraid of your asking Him in honesty. He loves those who can just come to Him and ask. Tell Him you don’t believe, but you are open to Him. Ask Him to reveal Himself to you and make Himself real, if He really is real. Then watch out. You may just find out how real He is. Those who G-d has revealed Himself to, can never again doubt. They know, that they know, that they know, that they know. Are you that certain?

Saying you don’t means you do. Here’s how that works. If you are sure you know everything, and lack misconceptions, about almost anything as abstract as a major religion, odds are you’ve misconstrued something.

If you think it’s a religion of peace, then explain Jihadists.

If you think it’s all evil, explain the Imams at 8/28.

Islam, like most religions has many sects.

Even within the main branches their are sub-sects.

      AQ are Sunni Wahhabis.

Hamas and Hezbollah are Shea Muslims (although probably an extremist sub-sect, similar to the 12ers that run Iran).

One thing is for sure though: Anyone calling for enforcement of Sharia law, is an extremist.
Sharia law calls for the stoning of woman who’ve been raped, and disfigurement of girls private parts to prevent pleasure from procreation, the killing of homosexuals, and conversion of non-believers, to whatever specific branch of Islam is followed by those enforcing it, by force of arms and/or the killing of non-believers who refuse to convert.

The GZVM Cordoba project Imam, has stated he would like to see Sharia in the US.

If you had a problem with any of the above, then I’m glad I was able to help clear up your misconception(s) about Islam.

Here we go with “intolerance”, “Islamaphobia”, but they just don’t get the point. If they would root out the people willing to do harm to this country the perception would be different. I wonder if someone moved into the neighborhood willing to do harm to this lady and her family, but none of the neighbors would root them out, if she would get the point. There is no problem with 99.9% of the Muslims in this country.

Agreed that the majority of Muslums are decent folks, it is the extremists and radicals of any and all faiths or beliefs (like Progressives) that ruin it for everyone. Even among Christianity are fanatical and radical extremists who desire to impose their will on everyone else. We have one other building just down the street, about a mile away from where I live in Phoneix that has a dome on top of the building and they do get asked if it is a mosque. However, I don’t trust the muslim faith because of what some of the followers believe and have done while the silent majority has remained silent. I would be concerned if I lived by a muslim community, I don’t yet.

There is European Christianity and American Christianity. European Christianity built ostentatious domes while American Christianity built clarion calling steeples to the faith. The ostentatious domes are in our heads in the form of an intellectual faith in Christ and God the father.

God is in the head and not the in the physical. People who name their kids Jesus as if they were naming him Mikey are only grasping Christianity in its pagan form.

The Church is built with living stones. Do you not know, that we are the temple of (Ruach HaKodesh) the Holy Spirit, if indeed (Yeshua the Messiah) Jesus Christ dwells in you. Neither the dome, nor the steeple make it a church, but the people who meet there. It could be a house, a pavilion, a store front, or open air meeting. Where two, or three are gathered in His name, He is there in the midst of them.
