Muslims Allegedly Kicked Off Delta Flight After Pilot Won’t Fly With Them on Board

Editor’s note: This post has many of the important details on what happened.  We have also posted an update to this story that includes a video interview with the Memphis Muslim leaders.  You can see that story here.

Muslims Allegedly Kicked Off Delta Flight After Pilot Wont Fly With Them on BoardNASHVILLE, Tenn. (AP) — Two Muslim religious leaders say they were removed from a commercial airliner in Memphis on Friday and were told it was because the pilot refused to fly with them aboard.

Masudur Rahman, who is also an adjunct instructor of Arabic at the University of Memphis, said by telephone from the terminal at Memphis International Airport that he and another imam had already been allowed to board their Delta Connection flight to Charlotte, N.C., before they were asked to de-board.

Transportation Security Administration spokesman John Allen in Atlanta confirmed the incident and said it was not initiated by that agency.

A Delta Air Lines spokeswoman said the flight was operated by Atlantic Southeast Airlines, which is also based in Atlanta. ASA didn’t immediately respond to telephone calls seeking comment.

Rahman said he was dressed in traditional Indian clothing and his traveling companion was dressed in Arab garb, including traditional headgear.

Rahman said he and Mohamed Zaghloul, of the Islamic Association of Greater Memphis, were cleared by security agents and boarded the plane for an 8:40 a.m. departure.

The aircraft pulled away from the gate, but the pilot then announced the plane must return, Rahman said. When it did, the imams were asked to go back to the boarding gate where Rahman said they were told the pilot was refusing to accept them because some other passengers could be uncomfortable.

Rahman said Delta officials talked with the pilot for more than a half-hour, but he still refused.

The men were taken to a lounge and booked on a later flight.

They called the Council on Islamic-American Relations, a Muslim civil rights and advocacy group in Washington, D.C.

“It’s racism and bias because of our religion and appearance and because of misinformation about our religion.” Rahman said. “If they understood Islam, they wouldn’t do this.”

He said a Delta manager apologized for the pilot’s actions, but that he and Zaghloul never spoke directly with the pilot.

Ibrahim Hooper, of the Islamic-American organization, said the group will follow up with the airline and with the TSA to help ensure such incidents do not continue to occur.

Hooper said airline officials at Memphis tried to resolve the situation, but the pilot refused.

You are a racist. Muslims aren’t the enemy, Muslims were murdered in 911 as well. What kind of a person hates an entire group of people because of their religion? How can anyone tolerate this kind of hatred? Muslim terrorists hate other Muslims as well, our enemy isn’t Islam. It’s al quadia

@Seon: OK. So let’s give them the benefit of doubt again. Then where are the “tolerant muslims”? Why do I hear crickets whenever the radicals kill someone? And. when we understandably get ticked off with being targets and even say something we get CAIR there to file a suit. If CAIR would do their job and drop the lawsuits and instead do what their name implies maybe these situations would eventually go away.

I just don‘t understand how when we feel uncomfortable and say something we’re the bad guys. But it’s OK for them to kill us. And it’s not just al-queda. It’s Hamas, taliban, PLO, and any of the other 100+ Muslim terrorist members of the religion of peace.

SEON, you are an idiot. “Muslim” is not a race, it is a religion. Look it up. It is used to denote a person who follows Islam. Therefore, labeling a person as being racist against Muslims is a non-statement. Before you call people racist, know what you are speaking of. In addition, he spoke of Muslim-enemies, which does not include all Muslims. This would be those who are our enemies because they want to “war with the infidel.” Eat-More-Bacon-USA did not call ALL Muslims enemies, so stop your whining. By the way, the enemy is anyone who interprets the Koran literally, and want’s to force Islam on all others. This is not hatred it is reality.

@SEON – I am sorry that you are offended by the truth, but here is a little more truth for you: “islam” is not a “religion”, it is a terrorist organization, and “muslim” is not a race, it is the designation for members/employees of “islam”. And, for your information, it is spelled Al-Qaeda, not “al quadia”. I will pray for you, you seem to very naive and uninformed.

Congratulations to the pilot for protecting our rights as Americans to fly without worry. The pilot obviously has a clear understanding of islam. Islam is dangerous to the lives of all non-muslims. It is about time we in the West start treating middle-Easterners the way they treat everyone else.

I’d like to know how the pilot knew they were muslims…it‘s not like it’s tatooed on their forehead! If it was only because they were wearing religious garb & did nothing suspicious–Mr. Pilot may have a legal problem. Don’t get me wrong–I don’t care for the followers of the “religion of peace”; but this is still America–you must have a REASON to stop someone from doing something. If other passengers made a complaint, or overheard something damning–pull ‘em off; no reason? Leave ‘em alone! My humble opinion only :o)

The key here is what the two Imams were whining about. Boo hoo…, it is racism. Boo hoo…, it is because of the way we look. Boo hoo..,it is because of the way we were dressed. Let’s call Ibrahim Hooper the vile member of evil CAIR. He will help us!

I have news for them. Their story stinks to the heavens and Hooper ain’t no Superman.
This is the “PEACEFUL” Jihad in action.
They deliberately use the tactics of our very own Civil Rights movement. They have studied the tactics of the great Dr. King. The problem for them is that Dr. King had a legitimate beef. The muslims do NOT! There cries of racism and Islamophobia are orchestrated and FALSE!

I hope they fail. I hope that the Idiot P.C. left does not prevail!

My money is on the good judgement of the Pilot. I hope that he is not crucified for his decision.

Another thing, they actually cannot refuse service to someone because of their race/religion. That is grounds for a lawsuit. It has been this way since the Civil Rights act. You know, that little thing that Congress passed? Because it used to be legal to deny blacks service too.

When Muslims start rooting out the good from the bad and stand up for America, then maybe people will feel safe enough to fly with them. Meanwhile, in the face of threats by Muslim extremists and the announcement that Al Quida has been setting up shop here (no thanks to Homeland Security at the borders), I don’t blame that pilot one bit. Time to revamp the screening system to one like Israel has.

Awesome! All it takes is one brave pilot to say ‘NOPE’ not with you guys on board for more pilots to follow in his footsteps. What can we do as passengers? Well, I will walk off the next flight I take if there are overt Muslims on it. If more passengers came prepared to do this, and then DID IT, maybe Big Sis would take note. Nah, on second thought she‘ll just say that we’re “racists” and force us all to submit to cavity searches. I salute the pilots for sticking to his guns. The Imams etc need to understand that once bitten twice shy. As long as Muslims have the attitude that they are not responsible for their brothers and as long as they subcribe to the notion that the Koran allows for Muslims to be “deceptive” and finally as long as they keep trying to expand beyond their borders with out defferance to assimulation then its okay to refuse the fare especially considering it was “MUSLIMS” who hijacked and killed over 3000 people on 9/11. Oh, and for those of you who would say I’m racist this goes for anyone who enters our country illegally, or otherwise and who are not willing to become like minded with other Americans. Did you look at the picture on the Blaze of all those women in burqas holding a mock funeral in London? Doesn’t it make you cringe? At least the KKK wore white. Why does Islam dress its women as symbols of death?

Why does Islam want to wipe Israel off the map? You think it is only the radicals that hate Israel? NO, NO, NO! If you think the London protest was bad, you can’t even begin to imagine the celebration in the Muslim world if they were ever able to bomb Israel or America, God forbid. Yes, I oppose Islam. Then CAIR and the other terror enablers will get to sue the airlines for taking precautions? You don’t think they could have dressed in normal street clothing if it was SO important to make that flight, or maybe the TERROR implications were more important. Just think, Holder just dropped the charges on a whole bunch or these terror enablers, who ought to be fined, put in prison, and then deported when their sentences are completed, instead he is helping them to create more terror on our airlines.

which airline was it that wouldn’t let (on two separate occasions) women who dressed what they felt was inappropriate or suggestive fly on their airline a few years back because it made the passengers feel unconfortable..? SO apparently HOW one dresses IS important to how other passengers feel.. maybe they should consider a SUIT..AMERICAN tradition..

As far as McVeigh goes, he was only a small part of this. This was a US Government inside job, and I’ve seen the proof.

You’re showing your bigotry SpeckChaser by saying people with Arab traditional clothing are “dressed like terrorists” and you lack of memory.

The 9-11 bombers were shaven, clean cut and dressed to look like Americans. Same with the Shoe Bomber and the underwear bomber. If you are going something you try to fit in, not stand out.

      From the article:

They called the Council on Islamic-American Relations, a Muslim civil rights and advocacy group in Washington, D.C.

“It’s racism and bias because of our religion and appearance and because of misinformation about our religion.” Rahman said. “If they understood Islam, they wouldn’t do this.”
      ++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

Racism–not. Bias-maybe. Called CAIR? They are terror related. And we do know about Islam. I agree with Snow–there has to be something else going on or the pilot wouldn’t have probably gone this far. Are we forgetting who was just killed at the order of the Obama admin and the BLATANT threats from radical Islam? They passed TSA. HA! TSA is a joke—they have proven this time and again, especially with their newest procedures that merely pick out people who are OPPOSITE of any suspected groups and randomly and out of political correctness–NOT out of any proven system that works, pat them down and humiliate them in scanners. They will pass up the Imams every time to avoid trouble. This country is in deep trouble. DEEP.

Not until they give us the same rights and freedoms in muslim countries! Then we can talk about it! People stand up against these people and demand the same rights, we give them in their coutries!….. You can’t even go into muslim countries with a bible let alone go to mecca!……. The next time they attack us, I say we need to take out mecca!…… Enough said!… Until they give us freedom of religion in their countries, and not treat us as inferior is the day I will treat them as an equal! If they don’t like it, they can go back home! Stop all frivalous lawsuits, especially one from cair!….

When people refuse to assimilate, and insist on wearing the garb of another culture, the culture of our enemies, it indicates that they are a foreigner first, and an American second.

If you refuse to assimilate, you’re refusing to conform to the traditions, laws, and customs of this country, and you should therefore not be trusted.

Curious. Do airlines have the right to refuse service to anyone for any reason? You see such signs in various businesses and establishments. If this is the case, then the Imams have no case. That said, I really wish that people would stop throwing out the race card ON EVERY issue. This is truly based on religion and what the religion of Islam stands for. At best it is a religion that oppresses women and minorities. At worst its a religion of hate against anyone who is not a particular type of Muslim. It is a religion that preaches murder! Here in the states the Muslims can say all they want about their so-called peaceful religion- ALL LIES. I know different. Actions speaks much louder than words.

Ever seen the middle east pre taliban? Before the soviets arrived? It was a civilized land. Very beautiful in many places. Go watch Kite Runner, that movie will show you what it was like, and how it changed. Islam is an abrahamic religion, thats right, they were the same group as the christians and jews up until they split off. We all believe in the same god, and all have the same values. But of course that does not allow you to be a hateful bigot, so you ignore that fact.

Another thing, Japan did horrible atrocities during WW2, does that mean America was justified in locking up all Japanese Americans?

To those who say he is allowed to do it so its right: It was also legal for people to deny blacks access to their religion. Supporting this pilot simply because the men were Islamic, proves that you are NO different than the racists who defiled this countries image. Every single one of you who hates ALL muslims, are no conservative. I will content myself with adding this link. I know that I posted it previously, but the warning does not get any clearer than this. This is not blowing planes out of the sky or other forms of mass murder, this is the gradual cowing of the population through intimidation and retribution (probably legal in this case) until the muslims have gained a grip on the nation’s throat. ANY nation’s throat. It is a blatantly obvious strategy.

For some reason it is necessary to drag the cursor on the player back to the beginning.

To kick someone off for being Muslim means fear and hate have won! You don’t have to like, talk or even acknowledge Muslims but once you become fearful and act on that fear, it does become discrimination…That is truth…

Should we kick whites off for fear of behavior related to KKK, or blacks off for fear of a drive by? A Mexican for fear they will illegally take your seat or a Jew for fear they will curse you?

If any of you agree this is ok, beware, for it could be done to you…The whole World could refuse to fly an American since we have done something fearful thru somebody else’s eyes….

It’s been almost ten years since a successful hi-jacking…Americans won’t allow it to happen as we have seen…Plus Government keeps us so “secure” by feeling us up before we board!

Is a white guy who profiles other whites another example of my bigotry? Danger is not limited to one color. The sooner you realize this, the better off you will be.

You keep talking about people who “look like terrorists” Let me ask you, what does a terrorist look like? There are Russian terrorists. So does that mean Russians can’t fly either? The Mob is kind of a terrorist organization, so all Italians shouldn’t fly either? Hell the Irish have committed some acts of Terror themselves, best keep them off. Oh and since the Drug cartels are Hispanic, so better keep them out of our planes too. Bill Ayers is def a terrorist. So no white people allowed. Van Jones is too, so no blacks either. The Bali bombings were done by Asians.

So according to you, we should not allow people that look like Terrorists on our planes. That rules out everyone except……… No wait, that rules out everyone. You know, Glenn is always saying think Logically, do your homework, use Critical Thinking. But it appears that all you guys do is babble like incoherent morons spewing hate out of the gaping hole you call your mouth.

I find it ironic how you all claim to be for a stronger republic, but Racial and Religious discremenation like what you are exhibiting will do nothing but harm our republic. We need to be based off of rule of law, and the law says we cannot discriminate against someone because of their Race or Religion. We can not judge a man, for something he did not do. For if we do, then there is no law, and without law we are not a republic, we become what the founders feared, a democracy.

And just because there is an opposition to it does not mean it’s hatred. Maybe for some, yes. For others, it’s simple mathematics. I personally have not seen or heard a single Muslim stand up and denounce Islamic terrorism against the West or Israel. That, according to my calcuations, equals 100% Muslim to Islamic terrorist support. Until I see American Muslims speak out, those numbers cannot change.

Cannon, did you read my entire message? I will say it again: Just because it’s an opposition does not make it hate. So why don’t you quit slapping labels on people.

      @JJ
You said it is a simple matter of numbers. I have shown you that there are infact muslims that do not support terrorism. Yet you and everyone else still claims that ALL muslims are evil, or terrorists. That because they dress in a manner that their religion dictates, they MUST be terrorists and spawns of satan. This is a simple matter of cowardice, and the people who have called for all muslims to be kicked out of our country, show that terrorism has won. We are now afraid and for that we are weak. I hope that people wise up so we can become strong again. Lord, I never thought I would find myself agreeing with some of the trolls on this site, but its happening
