Muslims Launch Billboards to Promote Toll Free Islam Education Phone Line

Muslims Launch Toll Free Number to Pro Islam Educate

Muslims are tired of people misunderstanding and mischaracterizing their faith. So, adherents have setup a 24/7 toll-free hotline (1-877-WHY-ISLAM) that people can call to ask questions about Islam.

In New Jersey, two 48-foot billboards feature a new Ramadan-focused, public information initiative being waged by the hotline’s founders. NJ.com reports:

For the next month, northbound drivers on the New Jersey Turnpike near interchange 14E will find a billboard with a U.S. flag and a message: “877-WhyIslam — Get the Facts.” A second sign, near the interchange 16 toll plaza, reads “Ramadan — 1.57 Billion Celebrating. Find Out Why.”

Sponsored by the Islamic Circle of North America, the phone campaign will, according to proponents, hopefully clear up misconceptions that are perpetuated in the media. In explaining the initiative, Asim Khan, the president of of the Islamic Circle of North America New Jersey chapter, said:

“Rather than absorb knowledge from Fox News, we invite people to come hear it from the horse’s mouth. We invite them to ask us what our faith is about. There is a lot of curiosity about Islam, but also misinformation, uncertainty, and a sense of fear in approaching us.”

The New Jersey billboards that are advertising this phone number are part of a larger, nationwide campaign launched by WhyIslam, a pro-Islam organization. They are among a total of 50 that will be posted on highways across America. Below, watch the group’s video explaining Ramadan:

WhyIslam, founded in 1999, experienced an influx of calls following the September 11 terror attacks that occurred just two years later. Ironically, one of the organization’s founders — Tariq Amanullah of Metuchen — perished while working at the World Trade Center during the attack. NJ.com continues:

WhyIslam has launched similar advertising campaigns in the past with subway, bus, radio and TV ads. The Turnpike billboards are the first such initiative in New Jersey.

While Khan says, “We’re not here to convert people.” We’re here to educate people,” it isn’t uncommon for callers to convert to Islam (some literally over the phone, some later on). Newsworks has more on the nature of the calls thus far:

Many of the questions so far address Sharia law, jihad or the holy month of Ramadan, said Ashfaq Parkar, the national coordinator for the Islamic Circle of North America, which runs the hotline.

“The vast majority of people come in with an open mind, seeking out what is the Muslim position on this question,” Parkar said. “We do have a reasonable number of calls that come in, which are far more confrontational. And we’ve had many instances where the tone of the conversation really changes as you progress in the conversation.”

It will be interesting to see how the general public reacts as the campaign spreads from New Jersey to other states.

    Pretty awesome. Now, as occasional poster here I know this topic is here only to evoke mockery. That’s okay, I understand that.

    But think about it for a second. Those of you who would love to call and tell a Muslim how evil he is you are free to do so, although I’m not sure how what that would accomplish beyond allowing you (for free, rather than talking to a psychologist) to vent your anger at, I don’t know, 9-11 or whatever. I imagine they’re prepared for that. Go for it.

    But for anyone who would actually like to talk to a real Muslim and ask their opinions about terrorism, Sharia law, Muslims trying to take over the world, take advantage of this. Most of you, of course, are too afraid. It’s just that simple. You’re chicken. I get that. But if you think you actually would like to hear a person address all the fear mongering you read on the web, give them a call! Seriously, this is you opportunity. Talk to them. What do you have to lose?

    The US Muslim community is reaching out. How will Christians respond?

      Been there. Lived among them. Had private discussions with some muslims most of us would say have pretty extreme views. No need to listen to spin doctors with pat answers, on some toll free line sponsored by the Muslim Brotherhood. Gosh JZS I never was afraid of a frank and honest discussion, but you really have to work to draw the extremists out if you want the frank and honest part, because deceiving to advance the faith is a great virtue among them.

      If they want to convince me about their “Religion of Peace”, all they need is to give practitioners of other faiths, or of no faith at all, the same respect you extend to them; to stop sending their children to blow themselves up in order to kill others; and to denounce and actively fight against the extremists who commit most of the terrorism in this world. Their trouble is the Imams who speak most openly keep doubling down on that old Islamic world domination thing.

      I’m certainly not saying all Muslims are like that, but the “Church of England Muslims” are afraid to speak up, just keeping their heads down preferring not to be noticed.

      You’ll learn to hate Islam when you have to pay for the priviledge of being barely tolerated as an infidel in their midst, but you’ll learn to love it once you truly convert and accept Sharia as the instruction for every aspect of your life and thought.

      And they don’t even require Borg implants.

      Many here don’t understand the terms taqiyya and abrogation.

      If people aren’t equipped with the proper understanding of these two essential terms and ask about them then their calls will simply be used as a propaganda tool to spread the lies of Islam. If they do know about these terms and ask the questions relating to their significance in present day events then one might get a different answer. .

      A government without borders is a very accurate phrase. What better country to flock to. The USA has virtually no border control. Would love to see a large billboard right next to it comparing Sharia Law and US Constitutional Law that includes a hot line number for women who are afraid to leave oppressive situations. While our young men are dying overseas to free oppressed people, more American women are becoming oppressed.

      Radical Islam is a form of religious government that is toxic. Read Toxic Faith, a book about cults if you would like to know more about the signs of cult like behaviors. Islam takes it to the extreme by forcing their beliefs on others as government rule. Sort of toxic faith on steroids.

I read a fascinating book a couple years ago called, The Muslim Mafia (hope I recalled that correctly), and realized that they are definitely entrenched in our society. Unfortunately, organized religion in America has been declining while Muslims have been flowing into our country for decades.

    I’m thinking that this is fuzzy math…. 1.57B people on Planet Earth are Islamic? I don’t think so.

    This means that 22.6% of the Earth’s population is Islamic. Do the math. Now… take out all the Chinese, the Indian Hindu’s, America, Canada, Australia, Germany, Japan, Britain, Russia, Iceland, Sweden, Greenland, Costa Rica, Guatemala, Nicaragua, Panama, Mexico, all of South America, all the other Countries that are not Islamic and try to tell me that almost 1/4 of Earth’s population is Islamic! They are just nuts and spreading lies like Al Gore, Obama, ACORN, the Unions, Trumka, and the rest of them. No truth at all… they just make up numbers and spewing them on us,

    I grew up in Alexandria, Va. George Washington’s boy-hood home was just down the street and his adult home was just a little further down the street. Yes, I’m talking about Mt.     Knowledge is power. I think we should ask ourselves if what we think we know is true or if we are making assumptions. Just like the Bible, the Quran calls for peace and calls for non-peaceful action. The crazies only follow the calls for violence. The muslim religion has a large following of people that are on a religious crusade. There are factions that use the church and Islamic scripture as an authoritative judiciary precept. Catholicism suffered from the same misdirection for a while. I’m not justifying or defending the action of fanatic fundamentalist muslims, its just that if you really want peace, you should try to understand them and ask them to follow the loving and compassionate side of their religion. After all, I would hope that people don’t want to wipe them off the Earth, but instead want to leave a peaceful world for our children and grandchildren. Maybe I’m being naive…

    I’m afraid you are being naive. I tend to go off on those who start comparing Christianity and Islam. But you were polite and respectful in your posting as I will be in my reply.

    There are two points I wish to make here.

    1) Muslims follows the teaching of Mohammad the same as Christians follow Christ. In Muhammad’s early years he was peaceful and living side by side with Christians and Jews. He wrote about it. But later in his life he became the militant Muslim commanding his followers not to take those of the book (Christians and Jews) as friends but seek them out convert them enslave them or kill them. So whats a Muslim to do? Be peaceful or war? Mohammad explained it this way. I’m paraphrasing of course I could find the verse and chapter if you need me to but this may be easier. What I said before is washed away and made better then what I say today. All things are possible thru Allah. meaning the old verse is replaced with the new verse. Muslims are commanded to war! There is no gray area here. By Allah they are commanded to seek all non Muslims Jihad if they must but a world wide caliphate is the objective,

    2) In the early years Christs message was controlled by man. The poor didn’t know how to read so man thru the corruption of power and wealth led Christian wars. No where did Christ condone wars in his name It was man who thru sin manipulated the faith.

    See the difference? Islam commands war. Christianity does not.

    Of the Koran’s 114 chapters only 43 are without abrogated or abrogating verses

    Here are some cuts from the article I linked below. It better defines abrogation then I ever could.

    Abrogation as found in the Koran.
    “None of Our revelations do We abrogate or cause to be forgotten, but We substitute something better or similar: Knowest thou not that Allah hath power over all things?” (Qur’an 2:106).

    How does this work? Consider the verses about wine. In one place the Qur’an says that wine has “some profit” (2:219) for mankind, but elsewhere declares it an “abomination, of Satan’s handwork” (5:90). Muslim scholars generally agree that the wine verses are a relatively clear instance of abrogation. Without abrogation, a pious Muslim would have to declare that “Satan’s handiwork“ offers ”some profit” for mankind.

    Being the last or next-to-last sura revealed, sura 9 is generally understood as being the Qur’an’s last word on jihad, and all the rest of the book — including the “tolerance verses” — must be read in its light
    The three-stage theory of the revelations about jihad, culminating in the command to fight to impose the Islamic social order over the world, is bound up with abrogation, as the earlier stages give way to the later

    Someone questioned the statement that Islam comprised about 25% of the earths population. I think that it is most likely true. Islam is the Pale (green) horse in Revelation. Islam is the source of most of the problems that the peoples of the earth are suffering. The people that follow this Satanic religion even hate one another enough to commit murder. There are no boundaries to their hate… of course that is the way that Satan is.

    There’s a teaching in Islam called Abrogation, which means that Allah later changed his mind and all those nice, lovey-dovey, peaceful verses no longer apply. If you want to understand islam, one need only look at shariah compliant countries like Saudi Arabia, Iran, and Pakistan to name a few. Then look at countries like India, Indonesia, and Sudan (which recently split) that have large Muslim populations…no, I’m afraid the majority of muslims take abrogation very seriously.

    Well, I guess the followers of the Prince of Peace have spoken, and not about peace, but hatred. Because you talked or read or heard about a a certain Muslim’s opinions, they deserve your hatred. And you’re too skeered to call the toll free number. Okay, I hear you.

    You know, this is nothing new to our country. At different times the Catholics, the Jews, the blacks and other ethic groups have been the focus of the anger of people.     Let me get this straight. It is okay for a violent religion to have billboards lying about the facts, but it is not okay for crosses to be used as markers along the side of roads to mark the places where police officers and others have died. Or to have crosses in private yards or at veteran’s memorials!

    obama-mecca-me-sick, I am an atheist. And do you wish to know one of the biggest differences between Christianity and Islam in the modern world? Muslims still sentence people to death for converting away from Islam. While I have problems with Christians, not even Fred Phelps has tried to kill an atheist. If you are interested in an atheist talking about Islam, British Atheist Pat Condell has several videos on Youtube decrying Islam, without mention of Christianity at all. He does attack both, but over in England, Islam is a much bigger problem, as they apparently allow Sharia courts.

    I assure you, you’ll have a hard time finding an atheist who holds anything but contempt for those who support Sharia courts.

    That all being said, these Muslims are not harming anyone. They are simply putting up a number where anyone curious about their beliefs can ask. This billboard is not saying anyone deserve to go to hell, or that you need to change your ways. It is simply offering answers to questions. That’s about as non-confrontational as you can get without simply hiding.
