Muslims Shot, Christian Stabbed in Clash Over New Church in Southern Egypt

CAIRO (AP) — A security official says Christians and Muslims have clashed in southern Egypt over the construction of a church.
A local security chief, Assem Hamza, says Muslim residents of the Awlad Khalaf village rallied Saturday outside Christian-owned land where construction of a church was under way.
Hamza said the construction was illegal. Security forces deployed as Muslim residents, including ultraconservative Salafis, moved in with bulldozers to try to bring down the construction.
Hamza said Christians fired gunshots and the two sides scuffled. Three Muslims were shot, including one in serious condition. A Christian has stab wounds.
Christians make up 10 percent of Egypt’s population and complain of attacks by increasingly assertive Salafis.

What Catholics and Protestants have done to each other is shameful, but it should not be a reason to harm Christians today. Most of the religious wars fought in Europe were less about doctrine than they were about wealth, power, control, and land holdings.
The most basic doctrinal issues have since been settled. Indulgences, etc., have gone in the Catholic communion. The most egregious differences are no more. In Ireland, they fight for tradition’s sake and for pride. They make us — Catholic and Protestant — look bad to the rest of the non-Christian world. Both sides bring shame to the glorious Name of Jesus.
But they are about the only Christians physically fighting other Christians. We learned the terrible lesson about religious fratricide centuries ago.
As Christians, we will need to pay no “nevermind” to those doctrinal differences, for now we face an enemy straight fm the gates of hexx itself. Still, Jesus warned us that not even those gates could defeat His People.

We are told that if your brother has a gripe w/you, meet w/him and settle out of court. If meeting w/him directly fails, then meet w/him and the elders of the church before resorting to civil (read pagan) law courts.

The Hebrew clearly states — No murder. It equally sanctions killing for certain crimes after a trail before the elders. The society may take a life only on the testimony of 2 witnesses – eye witness, DNA, etc. There must be two corroborating witness to execute the criminal.
A true Christian is one who trusts Jesus for his salvation and works w/the Holy Spirit to live a life that reflects that faith. Anyone can be a “true” Christian — Roman soldiers were some of the first non-Jewish converts and died true Christians, even on the battlefield. Pacifism is not a Biblical doctrine but an add-on fm the Reformation.

So will Obama send in troops or planes to protect the Christians someone posted earlier? As to protect the civilians of the minorities in Syria (as Turkey is preparing to do)?

Churches must have a permit to repair, let along build new, because the muslims do not want them to have the joy of worship. Maybe these Christians were merely fighting for survival…

On another note, I don’t give the Egyptian Christians much of a chance with what is going on over there, even if they represent 10% of the population. Muslims, as we all know, wish to wipe out the Jews and we Christians are in the way.
