Yesterday‘s temperature reached 93 degrees at tennis’s U.S. Open. But in the stands, it was much hotter.
According to the New York Daily News, and a video posted on YouTube, a brawl broke out between a young man and a middle-aged man and woman. After a demonstrative verbal argument, the older man and woman are seen attacking the younger man, causing one of the attackers a possible injury (seen later in a wheelchair) after he tumbled one row down during the incident.
But the star of the video might be the man who captured the fight. Arnold Florendo, 37, of Great Neck, Long Island, gives a running commentary during the fight, reminiscent of “Mystery Science Theater, 3,0000,” and yells at the end, “Hey, don’t worry guy–I got you man,” and then melodically chants, “we gonn’a go on the YouTube.”

Posted on September 3, 2010 at 5:38pmIf only the Beckster had been there to talk some common sense into these folks. People these days lack the common courtesy of yesteryear. We used to learn manners in school, I guess they stopped teaching manners when Obama took office. What has this country come to?

Posted on September 3, 2010 at 4:43pmThe number of people saying that the young man was in the wrong sadden me. Without knowing any facts about what was said or why, jumping to a conclusion that he did anything wrong is ridiculous.
What we know from this video is this: The young man was at his seat. He attempted to sit and let the situation drop multiple times. He stepped away from the old man when he attacked him and fell. They he got jumped by the woman which he pushed away rather than hit. He was then jumped by audience members even though HE is the one that was attacked.
I’m sorry, but I learned in grade school that there is NO excuse for physical violence. I don’t care what ANYONE says to you or calls you. Sticks and Stones may break my bones, but words will never hurt me.
If this young man was in the wrong, there is security at the event for a reason. Use them and grow up.

Posted on September 3, 2010 at 4:29pmSorry folks, you talk to a woman like that and you’ll find yourself on the wrong end of me.
Call me what you would you like, but the evisceration has gone on long enough. The little boi shouldn’t be addressing a female with that mannerism no matter what she said first…..

Posted on September 3, 2010 at 3:44pmThe old guy or the daughter should have contacted security.
Report Post »The young guy should take a lesson that just because a man is old, doesn‘t mean he isn’t a man. Antagonize my family members or even an old man in my presence, I’m not sure I could stand down either. Everyone can talk big about what they would have done in that situation, but when it’s you wearing the shoes? By “big” I mean contacting security.
BIG SCORE FOR OLD MEN EVERYWHERE!!
Bullies impose their will on those they believe to be weaker because of the implied threat of physical violence. You can clearly see the guy saying “what’re you gonna do about it“ and ”Get the Fjkfdj outta here” several times. Talk like that around my mother and I can‘t say what I’d do. I‘d like to think I’d contact security but if I had to leave her there with the man that was harassing her to do so…

Posted on September 3, 2010 at 1:14pmWhy didn’t the young man just go to his seat? He was clearly standing in the isle and perpetuating the argument (whatever it was about.) There is too little respect between individuals these days. Especially to our aging population.

Posted on September 3, 2010 at 12:28pmThe whole thing is a sign of the times. People need to learn to sit down and shut up..or they could even apologize! It seemed to me the woman kept it going much longer than necessary. She was taking to a rude, ill mannered young guy that probably never was taught to respect his elders..two time bombs going off!

Posted on September 3, 2010 at 11:59amGood lesson to learn here. Once you escalate something with a war of words, the odds it will move to physical attack increase. Once that line is crossed, your condition is left to the discression of who saw it, how they report it, and what the law enforcement decides they want to do… regardless of the “facts”.
It is almost always better to breath deep, consider the importance of what is happening in the context of the bigger picture of life, and walk away (unless you are George Washington and have a country to form).

Posted on September 3, 2010 at 11:28amYa know…the old man did start the attacking, but…that guy is a knucklehead who did seem to be dropping f-bombs..and Im NOT a lip reader and could see that. There has to be some responsibility to watch your mouth. This guy just couldnt contain himself. He should have walked away…instead hes throwing punches at old men, a woman, and countless others had to stop him. He now looks like a fool, because he didnt think he should refrain from swearing in a public place. Sad.

Posted on September 3, 2010 at 10:22amI’m with EqualJustice….My gut tells me the older man was defending the honor of his women (wife…I hope..lol). There use to be a time when one could use words against another that would reasonably provoke another. This is why the other people, with any age (maturity) on them were in support of the old man…the young man was disrespectful. Whereas the young man recording the event was only worried about who touched who first. Just my thoughts.

Posted on September 3, 2010 at 10:48amAnd if the genders were reversed, your argument –about “[provoking words being an excuse to hit first]“– would reverse.
(That is why “feminism” (“equal wimmin”) will never work. …Deep seated instincts.)

Posted on September 3, 2010 at 11:15amClearwatercop256, if you really are a cop, you should know better than anyone that getting security would be the right thing to do (whether or not the young guy was being disrespectful, we don’t know what started this), instead of attacking someone physically. Ask yourself this, “Does the young man recording the event have a better understanding of the law than I do?”

Posted on September 3, 2010 at 10:08amI felt so bad for that OLD guy.. he tried to defend his woman against that young punk. I’m not much of a lip reader, but I think the young guy was throwing the F-bomb at her and insulting her. Why was he aggravating the situation with the woman? He looks like he had a few too many. The video catches the action, but not the WORDS that led up to the old man’s defensive response. He had already gone back to his seat. Then the young punk hits the woman? I guess they got what they wanted though… a you tube sensation. Very sad indeed. The youth of today just do NOT respect their elders.

Posted on September 3, 2010 at 10:22amIt looked like the old lady was holding her own without interference from the old man. I’m sure the continued mouthiness of the kid set the old man off. First physical contact was the old man trying to take on the kid. Old man must be a liberal/progressive/democrat.

Posted on September 3, 2010 at 10:41amEqual justice you are a liar.
Get you facts and time line straight.
white Woman berating kid. (we son’t know what precepitates that.)
Kid attempts sitting
white woman continues.
Kid stand again.
old man pulls white woman away.
Kid sits (mouth still going though)
Old man comes over to sitting kid (who is silent now)
Old man attacks kid!
Kid gets up and the both tumble over row seats.
Kid breaks free of that and gets back to starting row (standing).
white woman attacks kid. (old man is still MIA from his tumble he induced)
Kid pushes her back.
By standers jump kid.
security escorts kid.
(Old man in wheel chair now temporarily, I hear tell)
—-
“Equal justice” would be arresting the old man for assault and citing the white woman for public nuisance (and possibly some form of “provoking crime”). But we all know your type doesn’t actually advocate “equal justice”.

Posted on September 3, 2010 at 11:09amThe old man should of thought about his tactics with that girth I would of got the kid turned with his back to the row below then fell forward. He could have rode that kid to the parking lot. The old man is certainly not a lib he was a patriot he stood for the honor of his wife even under the obvious overwhelming power of a younger stronger man sure his wife was wrong but her honor must be up held. He is like the average Joe facing the giant of a well financed incumbent or Federal regulatory commission. The kid is the Lib he was flaunting is power and had total disregard for the people around him, he threw insults and tried to push he wanted to have conflict. He reminded me of Pelosi and the big gavel. I wish the Old Man was there to pound her.

Posted on September 3, 2010 at 11:13amSorry, Equaljustice, S_M is 100% correct. The only things we don’t know from this video are what was said, and how the whole thing got started. The latter is probably more important than the former. If the kid was mouthing off that badly, get security and get him thrown out – done. The old man should be charged with battery, and should be responsible for any injuries he incurred in his fall.
And what was with the old guy in the blue shirt who came down to restrain the young guy? He didn’t need to be restrained, as he had stepped away from the situation at every opportunity. He was restraining himself.
This isn’t about age, or respect for elders. I’m right in between these age ranges, and the old guy was at fault (as was his wife), period.

Report Post »Why would I ever do that? I think you misunderstood me. I think the KID was wrong. If I had been there I would have stood up and told the young guy to just sit down and be quiet. I wish I could have heard what he was saying to her, but it looked like he was the instigator. I bet you ten bucks it was some obscene derogatory insult for the old guy to react like that. Respect for your elders is a very easy thing to do.
paradigm
Posted on September 3, 2010 at 1:40pmAll anyone can tell is that the younger person had more animate gestures. For all anyone knows the lady could be tossing F-bombs. You don’t see her face. Any of them could have ended the confrontation.
All three weren’t showing proper respect. Nobody should just expect any higher level of respect because of age or status. Sure, respect your elders, just as they should respect you. It’s just common decency.

This is something you would expect to see at a regional WWE event or at a Monster Truck show not a tennis match. Jeez. By the way,Old, Fat guys should not try to fight young, in shape men. If that crowd didn’t stop that young guy he would have sent that old fart to the hospital on a stretcher.
