Mystery Surrounds Woman Who Fell Into Mall Fountain While Texting

It’s a video over 1 million people have seen so far. A woman, so engrossed in her phone at a mall, walks right into a small wall and falls head-over-heels into a fountain. But while nearly everyone has seen her gaffe, no one can figure out who she is.
The mishap occurred near Reading, PA at the Berkshire Mall. Apparently, a security guard or someone with access to the security footage saw the woman‘s unfortunate plunge and couldn’t resist sharing it. Perhaps understandably, no one has come forward claiming to be the woman or claiming to know the woman.
“We’re all dying to know who it is,” David Johnson, who saw the video on Facebook and shared it with other, told the local Reading Eagle.
He’s not the only one. A mall official told the Eagle, “We’ve been getting calls about this nonstop.”
The video doesn’t offer many clues either.
A group of people can be heard giving a play-by-play on the video, which some assume are mall employees who eventually released the video. According to those people, someone did ask her if she was okay, but didn’t seem to catch her name. Luckily, the woman was unharmed.
“Pedro asked her if she is alright,” one voice says, “and she said, ‘Yes — I’m just a little wet.”‘
She may have a busted ego, however, and that may mean we will never know who she is.

Cell phones are universal, texting seems to be restricted mainly (granted with some few exceptions) to women. I have no idea why, it just seems to be the case that practically every time I see a car swerving all over the road or running stop lights or otherwise being driven recklessly, it involves a woman texting somebody and being oblivious to the world.
There was a study done a couple of years ago, and I wish I had the link at my finger tips, but it basically stated that when getting into a car, a man generally will see the world outside first, and the car as an extension of himself on the road. A woman will generally see the inside of the car as a world unto itself, with the outside being a secondary consideration. I’d love to find that study again, it seems really relevant to this particular discussion.

Posted on January 19, 2011 at 8:38amMy children have a spot of perpetual frustration with me. No cell phones, no texting, no televisions in their room. They feel so disconnected. I tell them that they don’t know it yet, but they’ll look back on this time in their life and thank me every time they do, since they’ll have memories of not being constantly “on call” with the rest of the world. They aren’t buying that yet, but they will…eventually.

I think it’s funny she fell into the fountain, she wouldn’t have gotten too hurt but it would serve her as a reminder to PUT THE DAMNED PHONE AWAY!!!. You/we are not so important that we have to be stupid and kill someone or ourselves talking/texting on a damned phone. I hope they pass a federal law making it illegal to use it in any fashion while driving, and make the fine for using it and getting caught something like $5000 the first time. I lost a frined to a cell phone using driver, they make me mad as hell. Shut up and drive!!! ur not that improtant, if it’s important pull over and talk.

Posted on January 19, 2011 at 8:28am“Just remember – some people DRIVE CARS while texting!!!!!!”
Let’s cut through the PC a bit.
Many WOMEN DRIVE CARS while texting. I’ve rarely seen men driving and texting, maybe once or twice in the last couple of years. Daily however I see women, of all ages, eyes glued to their steering wheel or lap, scooting down the highway at 65 mph while weaving all over the road.

Posted on January 19, 2011 at 8:49amThe thing about cell phone use in driving..When the Government makes laws to make it illegal to use cell phones, the problem gets WORSE as people hide their texting from plain sight and they are looking down at their phone and not up at their phone and the road……Yes MORE crashes when the laws are inacted!
Laws do not solve anything. They NEVER will solve anything…Just punish the morons when they hurt someone. Or just laugh when they fall into fountains while texting…

Posted on January 19, 2011 at 8:49amI have seen plenty of men texting while driving. Mostly men wearing dress shirts and ties so I assume that they are some kind of business men. At any rate regardless who are doing it, it is dangerous. Once again, just a personal observation but approximately 9 out of 10 times when I see someone ahead of me swerving lane to lane or suddenly slowing down then speeding up I see them texting when I get closer to them.

Yes, it happens, but the frequency if you pay attention is highly biased towards women, particularly young women. At least in my experience. When I’m speaking of this, I’m talking particularly of while the car is moving and not when the car is at a red light. If the car is motionless it doesn‘t phase me since they’re not presenting a danger to me or others on the road.
@Dusty
This is about texting, not cell phone use as in “talking”. They seem (to me) to be two entirely different things. Talking on a cell phone doesn’t make you take your eyes off the road for any length of time, texting necessarily does by its nature.

Posted on January 19, 2011 at 9:06amGhost…I saw a friend hold the phone in her lap and scream at it to “talk” because she saw a police officer close by. I dont believe cell phone use by talking is bad, but HIDING the use of a cell phone is…It’s the stuid laws that make it all worse…

Posted on January 19, 2011 at 10:09amI agree with Dusty. No one stopped texting while driving. Instead of holding the phone up above the steering wheel where they can atleast have a view of the road while texting, they keep it below the window line where they don’t even have a peripheral view of the road. I‘ll take a peripheral view of the road while they’re texting then for them to be completely blind to the road texting.

Agree absolutely; I take the city bus and often look upon drivers – men and women – texting away at the phone while making turns into traffic, on the move, or such. One almost hit a bus the other day at a bus stop; the enterance to a store was about a hundred feet down the road and he turned early just slamming on the brakes at the last second.
The phone was clearly in his hand, and I did see him texting while trying to back his car up.

Posted on January 19, 2011 at 4:28pmGhost, I have been in a car with a dear friend whole she was driving stick shift, putting on make-up and talking on the phone at the same time.
Women are naturally more adept at multi-tasking than men (cannot site studies but I see it constantly over the span of a decade in the workplace. I think they often put too much stock in it. I have seen so many STUPID driving mishaps that could have lead to bad accidents because of text-driving/yaking on cellphone driving. I have avoided my fair share of accidents from the likes of such women. I usually nudge my girlfriend and say, SEE THAT, THAT is a woman driver. She’d suck her teeth and be like whatever! I’d pull up next to the car, and there she would be, chatting away or texting away on her phone. Now my girlfriend grumbles, “Darn women!” when someone does something stupid in a car. It’s pretty funny. The symptom I see most is driving absurdly slow in a passing lane on a highway, or CUTTING ME OFF to do it… not to pass anyone, just to go slow as hell in front of me.
I live in Miami and no one knows how to drive here as it is.
