N.C. Teacher Who Mentioned Jail Time for Students Who Insulted Obama Won’t be Fired

The Salisbury Post is reporting that a teacher who told a student back in May he could be arrested for talking badly about Obama will be returning to her job in the Rowan-Salisbury School System in the fall.

(Related: Jail Time for Insulting Obama? Student Who Stood Up to Outrageous Teacher Speaks for First Time)

Yelling at student Hunter Rogers, who tried to defend Mitt Romney, the teacher told the class that people have been arrested for being disrespectful to the president.

In one of the more comical exchanges, Rogers pointed out that “whenever Bush was president, people talked sh*tty about him,” and the teacher responded, “because he was sh*tty.”

Watch the whole clip, below:

Superintendent Dr. Judy Grissom condemned the woman’s actions at the time, suspending her after it made national news.

“I expect all teachers to be professional during class discussion and not to force their personal or political views on students, demean students, or instruct students on what to believe…Teachers must create a positive instructional environment conducive to learning within the guidelines of our state curriculum.  Ms. Dixon-Neely’s failure to meet these standards during the recorded portion of class is the basis for my disciplinary action against her,” she said, but has significantly changed her tune in the intervening months.

Grissom is now saying that the the teacher’s actions did not reflect her usual performance, because she had received two formal classroom observations before the recording was released and both had been positive, and she therefore deserves another chance.

She did not say what exactly was being reviewed, or what the standards for review were.

“While I remain deeply concerned about the performance documented in the recording of Ms. Dixon-Neely’s classroom, I have concluded that she should have a chance to improve her teaching skills,” Grissom said. “Under these circumstances, suspension without pay for 10 work days and a requirement that Ms. Dixon-Neely complete a monitored growth plan is an appropriate resolution.”

Grissom added that the teacher has also received racist messages since the incident, and that teachers throughout the school system have been criticized.

Yes, there is a test. The way to pass it is to find the most inane, impractical answer and select that one. Never, ever select the common sense answer.

Also, never expect the front office to support you. Forget abt parental back-up. I once had an 11th grader’s mother tell me it was my job to get her son to do his (9th grade) World Geography homework.

I lasted one year in the public school system before I had enough and moved to post-secondary vocational school where I had a ball teaching young people who actually wanted to succeed!

If our son was assigned to this woman’s class, I would raise Cain and get him moved into another class, put him in private school or (as we actually did) home school him. This woman is mentally unstable. She may have gotten two positive monitoring reports, but she knew the monitors and the observers were in the classroom, so she toed the line. She didn’t know the other student was recording her confrontation with the student about B.O., so she acted the way she really was.

Dollars to donuts, the union stuck up for her and she threatened a major lawsuit if she was let go. The parents in that district should monitor this woman very, VERY closely. God alone knows what she’d do if she went off the rails.

That she will retain her job and just get “training” which = a couple videos and then taken out to lunch for her “exhausting efforts in the name of education” is a HUGE smack in the face of any INTELLIGENT human being. I hope the parents of that school district do NOT let this blow over and hound the School System till she is OUT!!!

This is why we chose to sacrifice to send our children to private Catholic school. It’s a shame the public school systems are such an inferior choice. Thanks to unions, affirmative action, and the progressive decay over the past 100 years, America had declined to 17th in math and science. Congratulations!

Its good to know you can be dumb as dirt and still be considered a teacher.

Its pretty funny that the claim was she was monitored twice and had no problems, who steals something with a cop watching them?

I apologize folks, for what I’m about to say. I know it sounds racist and is not politically correct.
I have not ever had a single Black teacher, boss, or doctor, that seemed to know what the heck they were doing.
This is what political correctness, racial quotas, affirmative action, first step programs, and free scholarships for minorities has gotten us.

I work with many nice black people some of them read this site on a regular basis. They don’t like what odumbo is doing either. Judge the individual. That’s how they judge us. I give them credit they are loyal americans. They for the most part hate what is happening and don’t mind people ripping odumbo, but he is our president for now so they are being loyal to our country.

Don’t let the idiots you see on TV or are unfortunate to work with taint your opinion of an entire race, they can and do think for themselves. (something they know the democrates hate).

Translation – Union School Teachers can’t be fired. Parents and students not only have no rights, they have no respect given them either. I’m sure the teacher was suspended WITH pay during all this time of “serious reflection” in which in the onset the school system knew or should have known they could not and had no intention of firing her anyway.

There are good teachers out there, unfortunately it is a crap shoot on how our children will be educated since these bad pennies just wont go away.

If she had been a White teacher yelling at kids, cursing, and taking up for George Bush, she would have been fired.

The PARENTS need to demand their children are not in her or any other racists class …and then after making a point .. pull them out and homeschool or send to a private (if they can) …. I did just that when the school would not do what was best for the students and protected the bad teachers. My son got a wonderful education away from the public schools (who thought he wasn’t college “material”) has a bachelors degree in accounting and a good job.

uh. this has nothing whatsoever to do w/her “teaching skills.” IT HAS TO DO W/HER ABILITY TO KNOW THE LAW AND THEN TO NOT THREATEN A CHILD W/A LIIE ABOUT IT.

she teaches opinionated hate and anger. she is not qualified to teach.

Well, we have it here too, sometimes shockingly so. The most shocking cases seem to be in the smaller school districts and towns.
They all have the same thing in common – lack of participation by parents in their children,s schooling. Doesn’t anyone talk to their children anymore and find out what is going on at school?

Obviously a teacher is going to be on their best behavior when receiving an in-class observation. She knows she’s being observed. This video shows what she is really like when no one is watching and should be the basis for her adequacy as a teacher.
