NAACP Backs Same-Sex Marriage as a ‘Civil Right’

(The Blaze/AP) — The NAACP, an African-American civil rights organization, passed a resolution on Saturday endorsing same-sex marriage as a civil right and opposing any efforts “to codify discrimination or hatred into the law.”

The National Association for the Advancement of Colored People’s board voted at a leadership retreat in Miami to back a resolution supporting marriage equality, calling the position consistent with the equal protection provision of the U.S. Constitution.

(Related: Obama: Same-Sex Marriage Should Be Legal)

“The mission of the NAACP has always been to ensure political, social and economic equality of all people,” Board Chairwoman Roslyn M. Brock said in a statement. “We have and will oppose efforts to codify discrimination into law.”

Same-sex marriage is legal in six states and the District of Columbia, but 31 states have passed amendments to ban it.

“Civil marriage is a civil right and a matter of civil law. The NAACP’s support for marriage equality is deeply rooted in the Fourteenth Amendment of the United States Constitution and equal protection of all people” said NAACP President Benjamin Todd Jealous, a strong backer of gay rights.

Gay marriage has divided the black community, with many religious leaders opposing it. In California, exit polls showed about 70 percent of blacks opposed same-sex marriage in 2008. In Maryland, black religious leaders helped derail a gay marriage bill last year. But state lawmakers passed a gay marriage bill this year.

NAACP Officer Maxim Thorne tweeted the news to his followers (Photo: Twitter)

Pew Research Center polls have found that African Americans have become more supportive of same-sex marriage in recent years, but remain less supportive than other groups. A poll conducted in April showed 39 percent of African-Americans favor gay marriage, compared with 47 percent of whites. The poll showed 49 percent of blacks and 43 percent of whites are opposed.

The Human Rights Campaign, a leading gay rights advocacy group, applauded the step by the Baltimore-based civil rights organization.

“We could not be more pleased with the NAACP’s history-making vote today — which is yet another example of the traction marriage equality continues to gain in every community,” HRC President Joe Solmonese said in a statement.

What does this all mean politically?  According to the New York Times, the move could bolster support for the president with a key constituency: black Democratic voters who remain skeptical of same-sex marriage.

And exactly how much influence (i.e. relevance) does the NAACP have in the average black community today? Uh, not much. So it‘s very easy for them to take a stand when no one give’s a rat‘s butt about ’em.

But what I don’t understand is that 3/4 of the Black community are against same sex marriage. It sounds like the NAACP no longer supports the Black community. The Black ministers are now trying to find a loophole in the Bible and their many years of preaching against being Gay in order to justify their support for Obama! Maybe it’s the White part of Obama that supports the Gay community?

That’s just it.. Gay (LGBT) is now lumped in with Black, Hispanic, Asian, American Indian et al. See the ridiculous leftist’s had to form a coalition to lump everyone into.

Fortunately for us, The Right, Asian‘s couldn’t me right, Hispanic’s are Conservative, American Indian‘s don’t want anything to do with Commie Elizabeth Warren.

See the NAACP is now just Obama‘s Obamunist’s Oblamer’s AmeriKa. Anyone, Black, White or Green with a functioning brain could not, would not, and should not support all of this divide and concurring. But they do…. they are ridiculous fools who support this disaster of disaster’s the disastrous Ocommie.

The handwriting is on the wall for BHO and he is desperate for support..the NAACP will do anything for BHO! Including selling it’s soul to the devil to keep a black man in office, whether they agree with him or not. how sad..

Obama only did it for votes and donations. He said it is up to the States. He is not going to do anything for gay marriage. Gay couples can make their commitment just as legally binding. Just like a business partnership. I don‘t know how long gay partnerships last but why would anyone want to jump into a relationship like marriage with it’s high divorce rate. Obama has done a lot and given away a lot of money to those he can use. If you didn’t get anything in the last 31/2 years you are useless to him and you never will. Looks like NAACP is in the same boat as the rest of us.

Within mans conscious we recognize the law of God no different than looking at the sun, moon, waves of the ocean, or a newborn and realizing God very existance is a worthy study and common moral laws exist. The Bible just verifies and expands our understanding. Homosexuals need to repent and return to using the natural use of a women as God states in Romans l -2. These are my words but God’s values. You who argue, argue with God.

Shouldn’t we also be as passionate about these other abominations?
According to Leviticus 11:10 it is an abomination to eat lobster and clams.
Leviticus 19: 11 tells us obout the abomination of stealing, lying and misleading others.
It is an abomination to shave our beards. Leviticus 19: 27
And tattoos are also an abomination. Leviticus 19: 28
Adulterers should be put to death. Leviticus 20:10
To allow any of these abominations is an abomination. Leviticus 18:26
We must wake up if we are to save ourselves and our country.

@[GodIs]Sovereign[OverEvery]Soul, to determine what to be passionate about, consider Romans 3:19-22b, ERV:

“What the [Old Testament] law says is for those who are under the law. It stops anyone from making excuses. And it brings the whole world under God’s judgment, because no one can be made right with God by following the law. The law only shows us our sin. But God has a way to make people right, and it has nothing to do with the law. He has now shown us that new way, which the law and the prophets told us about. God makes people right through their faith in Jesus Christ. He does this for all who believe in Christ.”

If you believe in Christ, then, as a side effect, you’ll trust His command: “I give you a new command: Love each other. You must love each other just as I loved you.” [John 13:34, ERV] Thus, you should sympathetically seek to (1) increase your and others’ faith in Jesus Christ and (2) discourage self-destructive activities (e.g., behaviors related to eating disorders, Socialism, and same-sex-attraction.)

You do err not knowing the Word of God. There are no provisions for food restrictions or capital punishment under the New Covenant. You can’t hold the New Testament hostage to the Old – all of the Old Testament was fulfilled by Christ and no longer carries the weight of death. On the other hand admonitions against destructive behavior are still in effect.

@…Soul, are you wondering how to use the Old Testament in view of the New Testament to determine what is a sin?

“The answer is this: In any feature, in any reality, any dimension of life that transcends the Old Testament, the standards are the same. For example, murder transcends the Old Testament. Idolatry, worshipping another god–That transcends the Old Testament….

“If you are talking about dietary laws, clearly, those do not transcend the Old Testament because the New Testament cancels them out….

“But, when you are talking about marriage or…the sanctity of human life, those things transcend [the Old Testament].” [1]

Also, please remember this: “Jesus had to come and do what the law couldn’t do, to grant His righteousness. Galatians 3:24 says the law was, ‘Our schoolmaster to bring us to Christ, that by Him, we might be justified by faith. But after faith is come, we no longer need a schoolmaster.’ What element of the law was he talking about there? The ceremonial law. The ceremonial law pointed to Christ….” [2]
