NAACP Warns of ‘Massive…State-Sponsored Voter Suppression’ Against Blacks & Hispanics

The National Association for the Advancement of Colored People (NAACP), the nation’s largest civil rights group, believes that there’s an effort to prevent black and Hispanic voters from participating in the 2012 presidential election.
The group is so convinced that this plot is underway, that it’s petitioning the United Nations for support. The Guardian has more about these claims:
The NAACP contends that [America is] in the throes of a consciously conceived and orchestrated move to strip black and other ethnic minority groups of the right to vote. William Barber, a member of the association’s national board, said it was the “most vicious, co-ordinated and sinister attack to narrow participation in our democracy since the early 20th century”.
The voting measures that have been placed on the books in 14 states are said to be unfair. Additionally, the NAACP claims that they will disproportionately impact minorities. The group has produced a report — “Defending Democracy: Confronting Modern Barriers to Voting Rights in America” – to highlight 25 concerning regulations that have been implemented.
The association has also put together a video that addresses these concerns:
The introduction of the report reads, in part:
This assault—which was launched to affect the 2012 elections, as well as future ones—threatens to undermine the record levels of political participation achieved during the historic 2008 Presidential Election, by suppressing the political participation of people of color, the poor, the elderly, and young voters.
These concerted “block the vote” efforts are a direct response to two important recent developments: (1) the unprecedented levels of political participation by African Americans and other voters of color in the 2008 Presidential Election, and (2) the significant growth of communities of color, as reflected in the 2010 Census.
The Guardian reports that the group is expected to send legal experts to Geneva, Switzerland, in March to provide evidence of the alleged vote blocking that is reportedly taking place in state legislatures across the nation. By doing this, the NAACP is hoping to gain the support of the U.N. human rights council.
The association claims that the measures are underway in states where the black and Hispanic populations have been growing. The group sees these initiatives as a direct response to growing ethnic voter engagement, which surged in 2008 during Barack Obama’s campaign.
According to Benjamin Jealous, the president of the NAACP, the actions taken in these states amount to “a massive attempt at state-sponsored voter suppression.” The U.N. will be sought out to assist in what seems like a “co-ordinated campaign to disenfranchise persons of color.”

The ballots will ALL be in ALL ENGLISH…. if you cannot read English, you do not need to be voting. If you are not a natural born or a legalized citizen, you may not vote. If you are receiving any government aid (including scholarships!) you may not vote. `Ere you go….

Citizens may obtain these IDs at 48 of the Driver Service Centers across the state.” http://www.tn.gov/safety/photoids.shtml

Picture ID will cut into ACORN voter fraud for a change. The Republican minorities are not complaining, just the Dems. You need picture ID to open bank account, fly, hospital and physician care, get insurance, write checks, credit accounts and I can go on. In my region we already know from getting Black people interested, and providing ways to and from voting for those who need it, there is going to be the heaviest Black voter turn-out in the history of voting from Youngstown, Ohio all the way down to St. Clairsville, Ohio. My dad believes the same is going to happen in Columbus, Ohio, Joplin, Missouri, Atlanta, Georgia, Dallas, Texas, and Sacramento, Ca..
If our internal polling is even close to accurate, that 95% former support from the inner cities is now below 75%. We want people to vote their conscious and principles (most Black families are conservative in living standards), and not be swayed by the rhetoric of either Party.

That correct. The Bush Administration/Justice Dept had everything done, but the final wrap-up of the case, but Holder/Barry dropped the case and refused to finish the prosecution. We later learned from inside the Justice Dept that Barry/Holder wouldn’t be prosecuting any blacks.

There was a major realignment of American political parties in the 1920s. Abraham Lincoln was a Liberal and he belonged to/helped found, the Liberal party of his time, the Republican Party, that‘s why it’s called the Grand Old Party of Lincoln (GOP). Liberals controlled the government and imposed Reconstruction on the South after the war. Southerners joined the Conservative party, a direct descendant of Thomas Jefferson’s Democratic Republicans, the Democrats. Teddy Roosevelt was a Republican, Franklin was a Democrat. In the 1910s, Blacks and immigrants in the North started joining the Democratic party, this excellerated with FDR’s election. Strom Thurmond was a Dixiecrat, a Southern Democrat. With the election of Kennedy in 1960, most Southern Democrats voted for Democrats at the state level and Republicans at the national level. John Connally of Texas was one of the first Southern Democrats to defect to the GOP under Nixon. By Reagan, virtually all Southern Conservatives had joined the Republican party, Lincoln was finally dead enough for them. This is called “The Southern Strategy” and was written about over 40 years ago in “The Emerging Republican Majority” and more recently (2005) in “American Theocracy” both by Kevin Phillips. The very next year 95% of these convicted felons names would be back on the rolls because the NAACP illegally re-registered them knowing it was illegal for them to vote.

If you watch the video, you will see the one man never raises his club or his voice, but the White folks felt threatened. By the way, more people in that precinct voted for McCain than voted for Bush in 2004, McCain got something like a dozen votes. Why were White pollwatchers filming in Black neighborhoods? And why was nothing done when armed White men did chase away Hispanic voters in New Mexico in 2004?

There were no claims of voter intimidation alleged at that precinct but the lawsuit was brought by the Bush Adminstration and completed by the Obama DoJ. The Bush Administration attempted to politize the DoJ, and controversial Bush appointees, Fox News, and the Conservative blogosphere have kept the thing going. It was one incident and it was settled AGAINST the New Black Panthers, two guys who did something stupid and unethical. You’re the one who thinks they should be executed. Who’s the real loser here?
