Naked Man Runs Wild Through Kansas, Dives Into Swimming Pool Full of Kids

A man runs naked through a Kansas neighborhood and jumps in a pool full of children Wednesday afternoon.
Amy Shapiro and her daughter were pulling into their neighborhood in Overland Park when everything came to a halt.
“All of the sudden we see this guy get out of the car on the passenger side and run up Antioch naked,” said Shapiro.
She recorded the scene on her cell phone.
Shapiro said the man jumped a fence and dove into the Wellington neighborhood pool that was full of kids.
The most shocking part may not be the video. According to KSHB, the police said the man probably won’t face charges.

Posted on June 3, 2011 at 4:14pmI’m a former prosecutor and, for what it’s worth, here’s my take on it: chances are the guy is mentally ill — that‘s why he’s in KU med center. I am sure there are laws against running naked in public (where I live, it’s “indecent exposure”) and they are usually misdemeanors. If the man were arrested for a misdemeanor like showing off his goods in public, any attorney appointed to him (and one would be appointed presupposing a mental defect) would petition the court for a competency determination. The upshot of all of this is: it’s too expensive and time-consuming to prosecute someone who is mentally ill for an act of this sort. There’s no indication he tried to harm the kids, or anyone else, physically. I am not saying it’s right, but I will wager that that is the thinking behind his possibly not being charged.
Perhaps an attorney in KS who reads The Blaze could tell us all if I’m on the right track with this.

It’s interesting we see nakedness all around us (media), but when person(s) are in naked in public, it’s shocking and may cause the onlooker to suffer irreparable harm. Yeah right, I think Mom and Dad teaches kids to be in shock.
I taught my children there is nothing wrong with seeing a naked person, it’s who we are, in the flesh. I also taught them to respect other peoples opinion and their believes.
There are nude beaches, Nudist Colonies all over the U.S. There tribes throughout the world that still walk around without a stitch of clothing. No irreparable harm there!!!
The question again is: “Where is the real problem?”

I actually lost you when you noted you teach your children to respect everyone’s opinion. So a person supports slavery has an opinion worth respecting? How about the views of a NAMBLA member. You teach your kids to respect those opinions and beliefs? How about an anarchist? Great beliefs? Should the views of Adolph Hitler, Jeff Dahmer & Roman Polanski be respected? These are signified as art, but you suggest a live naked man or woman you find perversive. Perhaps the model(s) who stood/sat naked before the artist of artwork are perverted and should be stoned. Who’s rules are you following, your own, I would think?
I find it fascinating how you jump into the deep end of the pool for sake of argument to compare my respect comment of those you mentioned. Sir, do you only respect those that agree with your sentiments?
