Nancy Pelosi Allegedly Celebrated Christmas in a $10,000-Per-Night Hawaiian Hotel Suite

Over the weekend, Hawaii experienced an invasion of powerful, Democratic politicians seeking over-the-top Christmas vacation experiences.
First came President Obama’s extravagant getaway — a Hawaiian escapade that at least one estimate claims will amount to $4,113,038 (the family’s beach-front home rental is said to cost up to $3,500 per day). Now, there’s House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi and her allegedly lavish holiday getaway.
The former Speaker of the House apparently spent her Christmas at the Four Seasons Resort Hualalai at Historic Ka’upulehu in Kona (on the Island of Hawaii). According to the Hawaii Reporter, the powerful politician spent the past two Christmases staying in a suite at the resort that costs $10,000-per-night. It is, of course, important to note that Pelosi paid for this herself (there’s no indication at all that government funds were used).
In case you’re wondering just how one-percenty this high-end resort can get, here’s a description that highlights all of the glories one can expect upon checking in:
“Gloriously revitalised, this natural tropical paradise offers more than ever to explore – with a newly expanded Spa, beachfront dining, fashion boutiques and new Deluxe Suites, in addition to Jack Nicklaus signature golf. Pelosi has her share of allies in Hawaii, including Hawaii Gov. Neil Abercrombie, who she defended during his successful campaign for governor in 2010. When Democratic Gubernatorial Candidate Mufi Hannemann claimed during the primary that Abercrombie was not effective in Congress, Pelosi issued a statement calling Abercrombie “outstanding, effective and courageous.”
Pelosi has been escorted by local police during her last two holiday visits to Hawaii Island at a cost of $34,000 to local taxpayers.

Even though she didn’t use any government money, she has benefitted from her time in Congress and enriched herself in every way possible (Legally, because laws which apply to the people don’t apply to Congress).
SF voters, she and her family get fully paid health care courtesy of the government, do you? She will get the majority of her salary for the rest of her life, will you? She will get the Cadillac government healthcare for the rest of her life, will you?

They would much rather keep the tax breaks for their rich friends but not paying for them. The Bush tax cuts couldn’t be put into place until Pay-Go lapsed, because they weren’t “paid for”. Clinton lived under Pay-Go and produced budget surpluses and working on downpaying the debt. I’d love to see that again. And how many jobs did Beck make? I‘ll bet it’s no more than a few dozen, maybe a couple of hundred. That’s great for the people with jobs, of course, but he‘s still only a small business and he’s kept most of the profits for himself.
@Barber2, If someone did the math on Obama v. Bush vacations, it would still come out in Obama’s favor. And no, there is no truth to the $200 million a day for the business trip to India, that is more than it cost the military for a day in Iraq or Afghanistan. It was sourced from an Indian tabliod rag quoting some anonymous provincial governor. Of course, it was widely covered by the Conservative blogosphere.

Do you believe what you’re saying, and can you source it from anything but Wingnut blogs? Because everyone knows that some blogger in his basement in Idaho knows and understands so much more about what’s really going on in D.C. than someone who lives and works there.

However I find it hypocritical of her (and Obama) to say that we should cut cut back and spend less and save our money, etc, etc, etc. and go have vacations that thevast majority will not spend in total in our lives. Whatever happened to setting an example for the rest of us to follow?
