Nancy Pelosi Says House Dems Won’t Support Obama on Proposed Debt-Limit Entitlement Cuts

House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi has a strong message for President Barack Obama: House Democrats will not support cuts in benefits to Social Security or Medicare in talks to strike a deal on the nation’s debt limit. In addressing her opposition to including major changes to entitlements, she said:
“We do not support cuts in benefits for Social Security and Medicare. Any discussion of Medicare or Social Security should be on its own table. I have said that before. You want to take a look at Social Security? Then look at it on its own table. But do not consider Social Security a piggy bank for giving tax cuts to the wealthiest people in our country.
We are not going to balance the budget on the backs of America’s seniors, women and people with disabilities.”
Watch her statements below:
Pelosi’s reaction comes after the White House has signaled that it is open to including both Social Security and Medicare in discussions to reach a conclusion to the partisan debt ceiling debate. Other Democrats, as well, are joining against the president’s inclusion of these elements. The New York Times has more:
As word spread that Mr. Obama was considering large savings from the use of a different measure of inflation to reduce the annual cost-of-living adjustment in Social Security benefits, Democrats joined with lobbyists for older Americans to reject the idea…
…Senator Sheldon Whitehouse, Democrat of Rhode Island, said Thursday: “Social Security and Medicare benefits should not be on the table. Social Security is not the cause of the deficit, and beneficiaries should not be made to shoulder the burden of deficit reduction.
Watch Whitehouse address these issues on the Senate floor, below:
As President Obama moves to include Medicare and Social Security spending in the discussion, there will likely be increasing angst coming from his own party. The Washington Post calls the move a “major shift” and says that it:
“…could present a direct challenge to Democratic lawmakers who have vowed to protect health and retirement benefits from the assault on government spending.”

Posted on July 8, 2011 at 8:14amI am only sure of one thing … when these politicians get done the American people will be more in debt … more desperate … and weaker. The Ruling Class (Republican or Democrat) will not be happy until the American middle class is not only broke but broken.

Posted on July 8, 2011 at 8:06amBetsy Botox is playing to the base, that’s all. She knows darn well she has nowhere near the clout she had before. So she’s playing to her district.
EVERYBODY, including Betsy, knows benefits will not be cut for anyone. But all she has left is demogagary.
Each side has painted itself into a corner. The Republicans with their “Read my lips” pledge, and the Democrats with their raise the tax pledge. It depends on who will blink first.
Get used to this, boys and girls. Nothing will be accomplished until Jan 20th, 2013. We are in for 16 months of this nonsense. The economy will remain as it currently is for this period. Obumble doesn’t know what to do, and the Republicans surely won’t help him improve things. Because if the economy improves, he just might get reelected. And I for one can’t stomach another 4 years of this!

Posted on July 8, 2011 at 7:39amOf course they won’t they need as many of the idiots in the parasite class as possible to vote for Obama in 2012. Remember folks, these are the same twits that bought into the fake Greek Columns and modulated god like voice of Obama. Remember the “I won’t have to worry about my mortgage, pay for my gas or groceries, if Obama get’s elected”. One thing you can give the Democrats, is they know the morons that vote for them really well and all of them are parasites living off the hard work of others.

Posted on July 8, 2011 at 10:20amWhat she doesn’t get is that she already balanced a budget on the backs of seniors and the poor. they did this durring Clinton’s term by steeling money from Social Security to “balance” the budget. Now, I can spell very well and I can‘t balance my check book most months but I know what’s like to rob Peter to pay paul and this is the government shell games these dems want to play. Keep paying off the foreign governments on the backs of all Americans, steel from the rich to pay for the poor, steel from the future to pay for today’s laziness and inability of of the controling politicians. This is a pettern for dems and republicans inch closer and closer to folling these same rules every year.
The worste part, it’s our fault. We don’t actively educate the voters. Instead, we barage them with politcal bias and they don’t want to be told what to think. Fix this problem, and we fix our country. It will be painful and slow to fix but we can fix it and we can see a brighter future of hope for every american, not just the poor and the minorities, but every body.

Posted on July 8, 2011 at 8:08amIn the video the congressman argues that senior citizens will lose dignity without social security.
It is not the governments place to provide for dignity of its citizens. If grandma can’t pay rent, I guess she made some bad choices in life. She should have not dignity.
If grandma can’t buy food, I guess meals on wheels will have to add another stop to their rounds.
If grandma can’t pay for medical care, I guess grandma will have to pay for the poor planning she made when she was younger.
It’s been nice knowing you Grandma, now get off my Government’s tit.
