NASA’s New Time-Lapsed Videos Show North American Cities From Space — Can You Spot Yours?

View from space of the East Coast.
NASA must know how much earthlings like seeing their own planet from a space-eye view. Within the last week, it has released several new time-lapsed videos that break down North America by region.
(Related: New time-lapsed vid from space: Moon setting over the Atlantic during the day)
Watch as the International Space Station takes you from just southwest of Mexico up the United States Eastern Seaboard, hitting all the major cities (New Orleans, Mobile, Jacksonville, Atlanta, Washington, D.C., Baltimore, Philadelphia and New York City):
Next, you can see the Great Plains at night. The footage goes from northern Mexico east toward Indiana and Ohio. It’s a short clip, but look closely around 0:15 to see the Aurora Borealis peaking out toward the top:
In a similar view of the plain states, though from a different direction, this video takes you though San Antonio and Houston up past Chicago (can you make out the Mitten State’s shape around 0:30?):
Vibrant northern lights can been seen in this footage taken from North Dakota toward Quebec:
Did you spot your city?

Posted on February 14, 2012 at 7:47amYou guys need a new playbook, you repeat the same miss-information over and over again. There is this thing in America called a Library and in that Library they have books. Go there and pick up a book called ‘The World Book Encyclopedia’ or ‘The Encyclopedia Britannica’ and read (if you can comprehend) what non-Muslims say about Islam, the Qur’an and Muhammad. You will see that what others have said is not true.
Then you guys can stop looking like someones sock puppet, repeating the same-ole miss-information put out by John Hagee and other infidels.
There are black-sheep Muslims out there. Just like there are black-sheep Christians (K-K-K-) out there, but they don’t represent the majority.
God has begotten a son….Whatever!

Isn‘t it amazing that we have this great space station only to be dismantled by the russians by 2020 and Obozo hasn’t said a word to defend it? Well I guess he can’t since we chose not to replace the Space Shuttle with a new shuttle fleet. Big mistake made by the last 3 Presidents not to take care of. Clinton should have gotten the ball running. I bet we could have taken the ones we had and have done a complete over haul of them too. Now were just useless. Jobs of great scientist gone. NASA on the brink of ending it’s brilliant run at dominating space. I gues it’s all yours China and Russia.

Let me say art the outset, I WAS a HS dropout. I quit from absolute boredom. Even in 1972 them teaching to the lowest common intelligence left me bored. So I went to work. Ultimately I became a international corporate technical trainer. I am, by nature, autodidactic, I hate classrooms unless I’m the guy with the front desk and lesson plan. I know most of what I know, from reading. That’s MY pedigree.
I wonder which college or university the writer and/or editor of this story attended? Yeah, it seems like a silly, miniscule point to make. But IF we are going to turn the country around, we’ve got to be able to say,

Posted on February 14, 2012 at 12:37amHey SCHTEVO, doesn’t it amaze you that, whenever anyone has anything that amounts to constructive criticism of THE (omnipotent) Blaze, the protectors of all that is good with the world come out of the cracks in the woodwork and the crevices in the floor to pounce on those who would attempt to undermine or do harm (even in meaningful constructive terms) to their baby? EVERY time someone tries to correct the ALMIGHTY Blaze the high and mighty’s ride to the rescue. They say everything from, “COOL IT”, to “you are detracting from the story”, and “you miss the point”, and they will always find errors in your comments to show you than no one is perfect. And I mean EVERY TIME someone makes what the Guards of Liberty feel is an attack on this site on ANY article, boy you will be chastised and made to look a fool. You do it in good faith and for good reason. I still can’t figure out why they come at you like angry wasps. All that’s would be necessary is for the blaze to be a LITTLE more professional in their editing and story writing. Proofing has been around longer than the web so that’s nothing new. guys, we’re all in this together. Wouldn‘t you rather have a site that’s run professionally than something that’s akin to a high school newspaper? I’m not saying with THE BLAZE, it happens more than other sites, It’s just that it never seems to get better. And that’s probably helped along by many who accept errors without question. QUESTION WITH BOLDNESS!! W

Posted on February 13, 2012 at 4:55pmNo wonder kids don’t know what a starry sky looks like. All the sodium vapor lights (yellow spectrum) cause a light shield that blocks all but the brightest stars. Give me a place 100 or more miles from these sources and I’ll stay happy. Since no specific scale could be attributed to the videos it’s hard to tell but my guess would be that few of those remain anywhere near the Eastern Seaboard.
