NASCAR Driver Kasey Kahne Bashes Public Breastfeeding After Supermarket Encounter

Nascar Driver Kasey Kahne Bashes Public Breastfeeding

NASCAR Driver Kasey Kahne has found his way into a heap of controversy for tweeting about his loss of appetite following a glimpse of a woman breastfeeding openly in a grocery store. To make matters worse, after tweeting his thoughts on the act, he spat back at least one disparaging comment to a follower who replied to his tweets in disagreement.

Kahne latter deleted his angry response tweet, but without a apology as if it never happened. Take a look at Kahne’s original comments:

Nascar Driver Kasey Kahne Bashes Public Breastfeeding

The controversial comments did not go unnoticed by several feminist bloggers.

“You’re being horribly sexist, Kasey Kahne, and your misogyny is really unattractive considering the number of female NASCAR fans,” writes blogger SB Sarah.

“If NASCAR is a family sport, one must assume some of those family members were breastfed.”

Kahne’s comments on Twitter were directly posted on his Facebook and fans liked both posts over 800 times in total, with a heated debate emerging between Facebook users among the post’s 300 plus comments.

“Kasey I used to be your biggest fan but now I just think you are an ass,” commented one Facebook user. Another Facebook user quickly came to Kahne’s defense:

“Lay off of Kasey, people. He is entitled to his opinion. He never once said he was against it, he’s just saying that that was not something he wanted to see while shopping. She should have covered it up!”

Kahne’s NASCAR sponsor Great Clips quickly tweeted a statement apologizing for their driver’s tweet: “Our apologies for this. Please know that response was uncalled for & does not reflect our organization.”

Kahne, however, is by no means the first person to express being uncomfortable around breastfeeding in public.

A recent incident in Houston has lead to nationwide protest after staff at a Target store asked a mother nursing her child in a remote area of the Target to move it to a fitting room. The mother told press she felt that she was harassed by a “whole handful of women Target employees.”

Organizing on Facebook, nursing moms upset with the Target staff’s actions at the Houston store have begun staging “nurse-ins” at locations across the country. The latest nurse-in took place in a Chicago store Tuesday, when about a dozen moms met up at about 10 a.m and began publicly breastfeeding inside the Target Starbucks. NBC Chicago reports that the Chicago store supported the nursing mothers.

Target representatives told NBC that it has always been the store’s policy to make women feel comfortable when breastfeeding.

Does no one have any reading comprehension anymore? It was not the fact that she was feeding her baby, but the fact that she had it hanging out for all to see! If a women or man exposes themselves in public, it is “indecent exposure” which is a CRIME. Just because you have a baby hanging off your teat does not make it magically not nudity. Cover up your private parts, whether you are a man or woman. Don’t just flop it out. It ain’t legal for a man, and it ain’t legal for a woman…

Actually, you are 100% incorrect – In 45 states there are laws that allow women to breastfeed anywhere in public, and in 28 states there are laws specifically exempting breastfeeding women from public indecency laws. And anyone who would equate a breastfeeding mother with someone urinating or copulating in public is just too stupid to be bothered with.

Openly, visibly breastfeeding in public is a very low-class, discourteous, inconsiderate, lazy act – just because it is “natural”, does not mean that it is appropriate in a public setting.

I agree. They make breastfeeding covers so you can feed the baby and still keep everything covered. Public breastfeeding does not require breast exposure. The situation Kasey was referring too obviously involved a lack of covering.

PROUD2BMOM – Thank you for an intelligent comment! The amount of idiocy when it comes to breast feeding is absolutely flooring to me. Take the baby to a public bathroom to nurse??? No thanks. Nothing wrong with a little modesty on the part of a mother to cover up when nursing in public, I always did. But in my opinion it’s certainly telling just how skewed our priorities are when people find it perfectly acceptable for a woman to walk down the street with her boobs spilling out of her shirt, but attach a baby to those boobs & suddenly it’s the most offensive thing in the world.

Breastfeeding and whizzing although both are natural functions, early humans figured out that breastfeeding was an everyday thing and ok in public and that whizzing is a health risk and is done outside the compound. Dogs don’t crapp where they lay but are fine breastfeeding where they lay. There was a time, back when I was growing up, when it was the most common thing to see, and no one took notice. It‘s been poopoo’d for so long that it is now uncomfortable, it”ll take time for the public to adjust, but it‘s coming back so it’s best we get used to it.

Your priorities are skewed, people. Breasts were not designed to be sexual, they were designed to feed our young. Sadly, breastfeeding seems to be more popular in the crunchy left. I also breast fed all four of mine and did use cloth diapers with my first for a while. I eventually quit those because as soon as she ‘peed’ at night and the diaper turned cold (matter of minutes), she’d wake right up. After a few months and not a single night of sleeping more than a couple of hours at a time, I switched to disposable.

For the record, I never found the need to expose myself to the public either. Whether a cover was over me or not, I felt totally vulnerable. Never was comfortable with it, personally.

No one is saying that a mother shouldn’t breastfeed. They are just saying go somewhere private to do it. I don’t see how that is in anyway taking any rights away from the mother or in anyway making it difficult for her to breastfeed. Basically the woman is saying she wants to do it and she doesn’t care if it makes other people uncomfortable or not. Of course consideration of others isn’t an issue, just that they consider her feelings.

I guess I didn’t realize some women “enjoyed” breastfeeding so much that they want to show the world. It is possible, I guess. People are pretty screwed up these days. But, I also assume that until it becomes “legal” to urinate in any arena other than a restroom, your argument basically holds no water.

Well as I remember exposing your breast in public was illegal until a bunch of neurotic young women got together an threw a national temper tantrum until the pea brains in the courts gave them their way. So public urination may be next. Be careful what you wish for. Maybe youshould by a good pair of galoshes.

Whizzing in public isn’t the problem, sanitation is the issue. Around the world there are other public opinions about bathroom segregation.

Beast feeding isn’t a public sanitation issue, whizzing is. No comparison.

Breast feeding is something that has changed in the last 50 years. What is the big deal?

Public sanitation is becoming less important than certain classes rights. You have cities handing out condoms and fresh needles to junkies and nowhere do I see any restriction on disposal since most wind up in local parks and in the gutters to be picked up by city workers or negotiated like a toxic maze by children and families. Maybe they could use the whizz to wash down the streets in San Francisco. As far as I’m concerned breast feeding in public is just an initial step in moving us towards 3rd world status, which is where the progressive would like to see us so we would be at parity with the rest of the world and they could divide the wealth of all the countries fairly and evenly and we could all breast feed and urinate in public and live in state built huts and ride beat up bikes to work. Ahhh, utopia here we come!!!!!

Only on this site would some idiot try and tie the downfall of America to breastfeeding in public.
