Natalie Wood Drowning Case Re-Opened By LAPD

LOS ANGELES (The Blaze/AP) — A Los Angeles County sheriff’s official says homicide detectives have re-opened their investigation into the 1981 drowning death of actress Natalie Wood. Sheriff’s spokesman Steve Whitmore says the agency is taking another look at the case after recently receiving additional information.

Whitmore declined to release any additional details about what information detectives had been given.

Wood drowned on Nov. 29, 1981, after a night of partying with husband Robert Wagner and “Brainstorm” co-star Christopher Walken on the couple’s yacht anchored off Santa Catalina Island.

Coroner’s officials ruled the death of the “West Side Story” star an accident.

The L.A. Times quotes anonymous sources saying that the captain of the ship may have come forward with new information about the night:

 Sheriff Lee Baca said detectives want to talk to the captain of the boat after learning of comments he recently made about what happened on board. Baca did not provide further details, adding only that the captain “made comments worthy of exploring.”

The LAPD has a press conference  slated for later today (Friday).

Robert Wagner has released a statement about the new investigation of his wife’s death. The Fox affiliate from Atlanta covers the story:

    I too loved Natalie,her movie with Warren Beatty in “Splendor in the Grass” was I thought her best performance and for me unforgettable. She was a great actress and I still remember those flashing eyes, like a gypsy. I always thought it was strange that she had so many bruises on her and you just can’t get that many falling off a boat. I always thought Wagner was fighting with her and knocked her out the boat, then let the dingy go to make it look like she left in it and fell out of the dingy. I always thought he killed her, probably not meaning to, then panicked cause he could not find her right away, then set the dingy loose. That is my theory and I am sticking to it…….

    I remember the News Flash when she drowned, had a problem believing it then and still do. I think at the very least Robert pushed her overboard and watched her drown after an argument.

    I choose to remember Natalie as that adorable little girl and great actress in, “Miracle On 34th Street”.

    After watching the boat’s captain on the morning network news, it seemed obvious to me that he’s full of BS. Never wanted to answer a direct question (although the guy wrote a book on it!) – like he didn’t want to be tripped up on an answer or held making a statement he could be libel for. Just another turd out to make money on a bogus book.

    I have no interest in this Hollywood story except to say that as a sailor I find it hard to believe that she was consensus when she went into the water. When a boat is on anchor in a quiet bay you can hear a fish jump out of the water 20 feet from the boat. If she screamed for help everybody with in 300 feet heard it, every noise is magnified.

    I believe this is just another wacked out media and government distraction! Pay no attention to this story, be very aware and very cautious of what is REALLY going on! Her death was tragic and a long long time ago, and her spirit is long gone elsewhere…There are more important items in this world today to focus on……

    Another Sharon Bialek emerges, this time the skipper looking for money, he has a deal with Vanity Fair and some TV show. Wood‘s sister doesn’t buy it and I don’t. But just like some Tea Partyers who jumped off the Cain Train because of unfounded allegations, many will buy into the skipper’s tall tale and buy the latest copy of the National Enquirer.

    Good points and just a correction of grammar here Badoggy: “He is just a pretty boy”. Let’s make that past tense, baby, seen him lately? (shudder). He’s a bloated old booze-soaked geezer hawking geriatric products on TV to pay his rent. There’s another equally disturbing commercial with Lee Majors . These guys look like they can barely keep their eyes open and are tied to the chair in adult diapers. Probably took 100 takes to get it right. So many former stars outlive their money and have to trade on their name. Seeing them in their decline, selling hearing aids is really pathetic. Yes, Wagner was a very handsome young man and this is a classic example to all the young whippersnappers who think movie stars are so glamorous. Here were two sensationally successful, physically beautiful people who had it all… all except character and morality. When you are God-less and empty inside, all the money in the world and public adoration doesn’t fill the gap of an empty soul. Booze, quaaludes, fights, fell/pushed off her yacht, this is a mystery? Let that be a lesson to you boys and girls. So many celebrities are just self-absorbed LOSERS with a pretty face. I felt bad though, she always seemed sweet and vulnerable. That’s probably an illusion too. She died beautiful and at least we didn’t have to watch her years of desperate aging. I always liked her, I hope she found peace in Heaven.       Anna: OMGosh you had me rolling on the part of “These guys look like they can barely keep their eyes open and are tied to the chair in adult diapers.” So true!!! I too agree that I don’t want to see these actors in their declining years selling stuff. They were good actors in their hey day and that’s how I want to remember them; not with face-lifted looks promoting hearing aids, etc. It’s so sad. Gotta say still ROTFL!!

    There certainly is a lot about Hollywood we don’t know

    Natalie was a drunk, heavy smoker, dabbled with drugs and experimented with multiple sex partners
    (Old guys know this)
    This case was reopened for other reasons
    Too early to know, but suspect cash or a large chunk of land may be involved
    Bob dabbled in real estate, as well as the aforementioned

    This tragedy is similar to Bob Crane, the Hogan’s Heroes star that got involved in self-made sex videos.
    The dope fell of a ladder and broke his neck and they said it was while he was changing a light bulb

      30 years ago, before the Internet, there was a little rag in Florida called the National Inquirer
      Recalling how funny it was and giggling at the stories

      An article about Natalie’s not so innocent life was hinted at in the NI soon after Natalie’s death
      Recall reading hidden stories about her wild life in other papers too

      During that period there were hint stories popping up about Rock Hudson being gay
      His preferences were kept under raps for years, so it didn’t make sense
      Turned out to be true

      Likewise, a story about Ann Margaret being ultra religious and riding Harleys across country with her hubby came out
      Turned out to be true

      The same rag published a fast story about Bob Crane’s ladder and later modified the story to, he was murdered by an outraged man who found out Bob was popping his babe in front of a Bolex Rex.

      Like I said, there’s a lot about Hollywood we don’t know because of how and what was being feed to us then, and what is being feed to us now by the media, and Al Gore’s Internet.

    It was always the story that the three of them had been drinking all day and night. Then an argument broke out between Wagner and Walken, she left the room, and in a drunken stupor either decided to leave in the dinghy or fell overboard. Hopefully, they did a blood alcohol test on her body at the time.

    Christopher Walken was and still is a nutjob. I thought it was suspicious when it happened. I guess they ran out of money paying the bribes to the Captain and he came forward.
