U.S. Intel Director Also Refuses to Recognize Muslim Brotherhood As Extremist

In a House Intelligence Committee hearing Thursday morning, Director of National Intelligence James Clapper refused to admit that the Muslim Brotherhood is an Islamist organization that supports violence, calling the group’s Egyptian branch “largely secular.”

The comments came in response to questioning from Rep. Sue Myrick (R-NC) about the threat posed by the group. Politico reports on the exchange:

“The term ‘Muslim Brotherhood’…is an umbrella term for a variety of movements, in the case of Egypt, a very heterogeneous group, largely secular, which has eschewed violence and has decried Al Qaeda as a perversion of Islam,” Clapper said. “They have pursued social ends, a betterment of the political order in Egypt, et cetera…..In other countries, there are also chapters or franchises of the Muslim Brotherhood, but there is no overarching agenda, particularly in pursuit of violence, at least internationally.”

The Brotherhood uses the slogan, “Islam is the answer,” and generally advocates for government in accordance with Islamic principles. The movement has as a broad goal unifying what it perceives as Muslim lands, from Spain to Indonesia, as a “caliphate.”

Myrick interrupted Clapper at one point, saying her concern isn’t simply with the violence but with the Brotherhood’s beliefs regarding government.

“The danger of the Muslim Brotherhood is not just encouraging terrorism through their ideology, but also trying to take over government, so everyone has to succumb and live under their ideology,” Myrick said.

Clapper said later in the hearing that the Brotherhood in Egypt runs 29 hospitals ”not under the guise of an extremist agenda.” He said the group fills a vacuum cause by the absence of government services, but added, “It is not necessarily with a view to promoting violence or overthrow of the state.

That contradicts what FBI Director Robert Mueller said in the same hearing. Mueller noted that “obviously, elements of the Muslim Brotherhood here and overseas have supported terrorism.”

Even Politico reports that Hamas, the terrorist organization in Gaza, grew out of the Brotherhood, and adds  some have connected the Brotherhood to other Islamic organizations. Politico also noted the group’s desire for a “caliphate.”

Just yesterday it was revealed that a 1995 book written by the Brotherhood‘s fifth leader details the group’s objectives, including the “global conquest of Islam” and “reestablishing the Islamic Caliphate, the “public and private duties of jihad,” and the “struggles Muslims must wage against Israel.”

    Director of National Intelligence James Clapper is one of O‘bama’s political appointees. So it should come as no surprise that he ignores evidence to the contrary and steadfastly refuses to attribute anything but “good” motives to the Islamic Brotherhood. It’s like the saying that the KKK is, in spite of the despicable acts of terrorism against innocent blacks by some of its members, it is still basically a “good” organization, since most of the members are either secular or Christian.

    If reports of the imminent and rapid departure of Egypt’s President Mubarek (and the huge strategic power vacuum it will create in the Middle East) are true, then Time will soon tell. Meanwhile, this administration has thus far shown little evidence it has the ability to keep things from getting worse. I pray the more competent and mature people in the U.S. military, State Department and the Intelligence community help this unqualified poser make the right choices (no matter how politically incorrect or damaging to his standing with his radical, un-American supporters it might be !)

    But I’m not holding my breath.

This group, which has been briefing both Democrat and Republican congressional leadership in recent months that there is nothing inherently violent in Islamic law, has a very poor history of embracing Islamic radicals and even Al-Qaeda terrorists.

    Immediately after 9/11, the CMSA began holding Friday afternoon prayer services on Capitol Hill. Who did they choose to lead them in their prayers? Al-Qaeda sheikh Anwar al-Aulaqi, who is currently subject to a kill or capture order issued by President Obama. In fact, video of Aulaqi preaching to the CMSA was included in the 2002 documentary, “Muhammad: Legacy of a Prophet.” That video clip is available to view by the Investigative Project on Terrorism.
    Identified in that clip listening to the Al-Qaeda cleric are Nihad Awad, executive director of the Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR); then-CAIR Communications specialist Randall “Ismail” Royer, who is currently serving a 20-year federal prison sentence on terrorism charges; and sitting directly beside Royer is CMSA founder and former president Jameel Alim Johnson.

    The invitation to an Al-Qaeda cleric who already had been tied to two of the 9/11 hijackers (as reported in the 9/11 Commission Report) to lead CMSA prayers is not the only troubling aspect of Jameel Johnson’s congressional record. In December 2007, I reported on an Islamic conference on Capitol Hill that had been scheduled by Johnson as chief of staff from Congressman Gregory Meeks. The conference was canceled at the last minute by the House of Representatives Sergeant-at-Arms when it was discovered that the conference scheduled by Johnson was to feature a long list of Islamic radicals, some of whom were known to be on the terror watch list.

    So when the CMSA leadership squeal to the media about anyone offering an alternative view to our failed foreign and domestic policy of submitting to Islamic radicalism, we only need look at the record of CMSA as an organization, and its leadership as individuals, giving radicals and terrorists, such as Anwar Al-Aulaqi, their voice on Capitol Hill.

    But the infiltration of our highest government institutions is not limited to the CMSA. In 1991, the first Muslim cleric to deliver opening prayers for Congress was Siraj Wahhaj, who two years later was named as an unindicted co-conspirator in the 1993 World Trade Center bombing trial, and who also served as a character witness for the defense of terrorist leader Omar Abdel Rahman. Wahhaj has openly called for the destruction of American democracy to be replaced by an Islamic state governed by shariah.

    Another regular fixture on Capitol Hill for more than a decade was Abdurahman Alamoudi, friend to Democrats and Republicans alike, and arguably the most prominent Islamic leader in America. As president of the American Muslim Council, he advised US presidents and was courted by a number of presidential candidates, established the Muslim chaplain program for the Department of Defense, worked with Republican activist Grover Norquist to establish the Islamic Institute lobbying organization, and served on the advisory board for CAIR.

    Today, Abdurahman Alamoudi is no longer roaming the halls of Congress or having lunch at the White House. He was arrested in 2003 and is currently serving a 23-year prison sentence for his role in a plot to assassinate Saudi King Abdullah at the request of Libyan intelligence. In July 2005, the US Treasury Department publicly admitted that Alamoudi, while he was the most influential Islamic leader in Washington D.C., was also the top Al-Qaeda fundraiser in the US. Treasury officials stated that Alamoudi’s arrest was “a severe blow to Al-Qaeda”.

    This is precisely the kind of infiltration and willful blindness to the threat to America posed by Muslim Brotherhood front organizations we cited in our report issued this week. Continuing to ignore this threat, as urged by the Congressional Muslim Staffers Association and the Council on American-Islamic Relations, will only lead us further into submission to the advocates of a global Islamic state and the imposition of shariah.

    This is a call to all Americans who value their Life, Liberty, and Pursuit of Happiness! Islam is a huge force that is moving into our communities and won‘t stop until everything in it’s path is destroyed! Start banding together with those in your community, find out where all the mosque are in your city, find out where all the Muslim groups are at like Muslim American Society local chapters and CAIR organizations etc. Contact them and Demand that they leave! Let them know that they are not welcome anymore in your community! Let them know that you know their agenda and you will not let up from stopping them! Contact your Mayor and Local city council! Contact your congressmen and Senators! Demand that Islam be banned! If you can, show them the evidence that they have ties to extremist groups, like the Muslim American Societies do with the Muslim Brotherhood! Do the research online and start getting the word out! Let our politicians know that they are responsible for your safety and you will hold them accountable! Let the Muslims know that you are spreading the word in the community and that you won’t let them rest!

      Mrbutcher: I challenge your assertion or implied assertion, that Islam is inherently peaceful. Mohammad’s revelations began rather benevolently, but once he became a warrior and traveled to Medina where he killed hundreds (personally), his revelations changed, and even superseded previous ones from earlier years …. Have you read the Suras? Chronologically? His words (as he said were God’s) were all about conquering non-Muslims … those must submit or die. Facts. There are vast numbers of Muslims in this world who have no idea about their own religion, but will defend its beliefs in ignorance. I think you may fall into that category. I could go on, but the point is, we all need some education here. For those who say Islam is peaceful – you don’t understand it. For those who believe Islam is dangerous, you should really get to learn why ….

      I never implied Islam was a peaceful religion. I said most American Muslims are peaceful individuals. I’m well aware of the horrors and violence in their holy book.

      Many of the same horrors and violence are also found in the christian bible. Most christians are equally ignorant of Psalm 137:9 as Muslims are ignorant of their horrors. I don’t want to persecute Christians for belonging to a vile and hateful religion either.

      That said, even with the well document horrific nature of Islam, you can not punish collectivly a group of people who belong to a religion. That is what the Nazi’s did.

      Education is the only response and option. I’m all for educating everyone on the tenets and true nature of all religions. I’m with you 100% on that.

      I trust you find the post from kickillegalsout more reprobate than your initial perception that I thought islam was peaceful, right?

      Butcher: no, I would not advocate throwing all Muslims out … Of corse not. I wanted to ensure you were not implying Islam is peaceful. Non- practicing Muslims, and those who are Muslims by cultural affiliation only are not those I am concerned with. I would love to argue Bible vs. Quran with you, but I am simply exhausted from the compare/contrast debate. What I will say, however, is that one fundamental difference is this… The bible is man‘s interpretation of God’s word. The Quran is believed to BE God’s word and not meant to be interpreted. This issue brings up many complexities when discussing what each religion advocates.

      This is absurd we have seen enough evidence to prove he is wrong. Call your reps tell them to get involved and start demanding the truth be told otherwise push for the removal of those denying the MB intent. We all know they want violence, destruction of Israel and to establish a caliphate, its in their own words/writings.

      There are too many denying the intent of the MB where again we have seen the truth. I want to know who is driving this mindset that they are no threat? Someone somewhere is giving a directive to play them down and it makes no sense unless its coming directly from DC. There are reports the generals in Egypt were in the US and met with US gov’t officials. Id like to know what they were talking about b/c we are now at the peak of this mess.

      The crowds right now are cheering and happy over there anyone have any idea how this will turnout if the news that comes out is not what the people want to hear?! We’re talking bodies in the streets….

      There is no compromise, reasoning, or “COEXISTENCE”. Fairytale ideas.
      They want and MUST kill us all. It is clearly written in the koran. It’s not like there is no proof of this…READ THE BOOK! Instead, they take “them” at their word, while “they”carry a book in their hand that says otherwise.
      Put the words aside for a moment, what about actions? Everyday, the world suffers at the hands of islam. “They” kill each other…their alleged “brothers” what do you think they will do to “non-believers” (a.k.a. sane people)?
      islam is patient if nothing else. It’s all about framework…hmmm framework…where else is that strategy being used? Think about it…that’s why OUR Federal officials are ignoring the obvious, they are planning to unify with the enemy. They should all be in jail.

      Intel Dir James “Neville Chamberlain” Clapper is either in the wrong job, is totally incompetent, or has been smoking something stronger than a filter cigarette.

      Do they REALLY expect us to believe….well, I guess they do. No wonder they want to shut ((GB)) up! We “set Reason in her seat,“ ”question with boldness,” AND do our homework!

      “That contradicts what FBI Director Robert Mueller said in the same hearing. Mueller noted that “obviously, elements of the Muslim Brotherhood here and overseas have supported terrorism.”

      Does anyone else find it of a concern that people within the administration are clearly not on the same page?!

      Largely secular? The first word in their title is “Muslim”! That’s like saying the Communist Party USA is Largely Capitalist. They’ll probably actually try that next since the Communist Party USA supports the current POTUS on their web site, cpusa.org .
