‘Not Hate-Filled Bigots’: National Organization for Marriage Launches ‘Chick-fil-A Wednesdays’ to Support Traditional Marriage

If you thought the massive support that Chick-fil-A received in the wake of the controversy surrounding its president, Dan Cathy, and his public comments against gay marriage was a passing ship, you’re wrong.

Just weeks ago, following public outcry and claims of “hate,“ Mike Huckabee organized ”Chick-fil-A Appreciation Day,” bringing scores of individuals out of their homes and into the restaurant to support its ideals. Now, the National Organization for Marriage (NOM), an organization that supports traditional marriage, is coming out with a weekly way to support the food chain — “Chick-fil-A Wednesdays.”

The organization kicked the initiative off on Wednesday, August 15, in an effort to ”help people to realize they are not alone in their support for marriage,” NOM spokesperson Jonathan Baker told The Christian Post. Rather that sitting back and staying out of the gay marriage debate, the organization is hoping that people will head out to Chick-fil-A to meet like-minded individuals and to stand firm on their principles.

“The mainstream media, by repeating the talking points of same-sex marriage activists and perpetuating the falsehood that same-sex marriage is inevitable, has helped to make people feel that they are alone in their support of marriage,” Baker explained. ”Chick-fil-A Wednesdays is the perfect antidote in that it encourages people to stand together, to meet with like-minded individuals, and to understand that they are not alone.”

National Organization for Marriage Launches Chick fil A Wednesday

In an effort to dispel the label that some gay rights activists have given to those who oppose same-sex unions, Baker made it a point to say that supporters of marriage between a man and a woman are “not hate-filled bigots.”

“What we want people to do is to visit Chick-fil-A on Wednesdays as they are able, show solidarity with the Cathy family, and enjoy a great chicken sandwich,” he added.

To accompany the initiative, NOM has also put together a web site — ThankChickfilA.com — where supporters can send letters to the restaurant and thank its owners for sticking to their beliefs. Already 20,473 letters (as of 7:30 a.m. ET) have been sent.

“As one of the millions of Americans who firmly believe that marriage is uniquely the union of one man and one woman, I know how hard it can be, despite our majority, to announce this message in a culture increasingly hostile to traditional and especially Christian values,” the letter reads, in part. “That is why I am writing to you today to honor and to thank you for the heroic example that you have set by your courageous witness – throughout your company history, but most of all in recent weeks.”

So, the ongoing debate over same-sex marriage — and Chick-fil-A — is forging on.

People, it’s all well and good to support Chik-fil-a for its founders beliefs, especially in order that those who tried to demonize him be taught a lesson. But, let us not forget that there are many companies and founders of companies who also have made a stand in this and other issues. Support them too.

It wasn’t the marriage stance made by Cathy that invoked this response. It was the actions taken against him and the attack on his right of free speech by POLITICIANS that caused this to happen. People have every right to disagree but politician have a oath they’re suppose to keep…the politician that attacked Cathy and CFA broke that oath and gave us aglaring look at what progressives (fascist) have in store for the country if they’re allowed to flurish. In order to save free speech, freedom of religion, and the Constitution we may have to destroy the progressives. THEY WON’T LIVE AND LET LIVE WHICH MEANS SOMEONE HAS TO DIE…..

      Machine,

Chick-fil-A does not hate or discriminate against gays. You can go into any location any day of the week (except Sunday…the Lord’s day) and order a chicken sandwich. Believe it or not, the person behind the counter isn’t going to ask you your sexual preference and then decide to serve or not to serve you based on your answer.

You are not being discriminated against, you are not being hated. You are simply disillusioned and believe that the world is out to get you….they aren’t.

Stop attacking/slandering/hating Chick-fil-A simply because they hold a different set of values than you do. Why don’t you try practicing the tolerance that you preach.

I support Chick-fl-a, but I have tried there food and I wasn’t impressed.
I hate at one in the Mall, and that might have been the reason; I’ll give them one more chance.
Not to toot my own horn, but I can make a killer chicken sandwich myself.
I buy may breast fresh, and then I marinate it than freeze them until needed.
I can’t eat at places like burger king any more especially now that it almost cost $10 for a meal.
I just refuse to pay that much for the same old crappy frozen burger patty and semi wet bread.
Now I eat at Buds Broiler’s made fresh every time.

I’m with you, Sal. Aside from Chick’s milkshakes (which are deee-lish) I really don’t like their food. A bland, oddly-shaped fried chicken cut between a cheap ol’ white bun with some soggy, warm waffle fries. They need to spice it up a little. Perhaps up the quality of their buns and fries, and maybe experiment with some new flavors. I live in the South, we just don’t do bland like those European wannabes in the north. We take the cheapest hunk of $5 meat at Walmart, cover it in spice rub, throw it on the ‘cue for 8 hours, then pull out the most flavorful pork, chicken or beef brisket known to man. We then top it with a spicy apple cider vinegar sauce with some cole slaw next to it. It’s FULL of flavors. Chick-fil-A corporate needs to hire me.

However, I do still love going in and listening to some Jeremy Camp and all the other good tunes they play there.

The ‘marriage’ organization is not supporting biblical covenant marriage. They support all forms of civil marriage, as long as it is a male and female, and not more than one at a time. Jesus & the apostles say that to legally divorce ones covenant spouse (the one you left your parents for), and legally ‘marry’ another during the lifetime of the covenant spouse, is the sin of adultery, as long as one remains in that condition and refuses to repent (forsake it). Let it be known that the aforementioned organization is part of the status quo/apostate church, and cannot defend biblical marriage against the homosexual community without a show of hypocrisy. Adultery is welcome in the apostate churches, but they purportedly ‘draw the line’ against the sin of Sodom, which nature itself denounces. Same as abortion (not killing ones own offspring). Nearly all the animal creation protects it‘s offspring as it’s ability enables it to do so. “In the last days, perilous times shall come…”

While on vacation yesterday – Wednesday – in northern Kentucky, we went to a Chick-fil-A at 1;15 pm. It was so packed we went on an errand for twenty minutes, and came back to stand in a line that moved very quickly. We don;t have a Chick-fil-A in our home area, so we want to visit one anytime we travel near one. I don’t know if the crowd yesterday was due to the “buycott” or the norm but I can tell you the restaurant we visited was a class act.

Baker exposes himself…despite his claims that he is “supporting marriage” what this is really about is attacking homosexuals.

If you want to support marriage, you don’t do it by attacking homosexuals. Preventing homosexuals from getting married does not help a single straight couple get married or stayed married. If they really were concerned about “defending marriage,” they would devote their time, energy and money to helping straight couples overcome the pitfalls that ruin so many marriages.

But no, they would rather attack homosexuals and wrap it up in the lie that is it is to save straight marriage.

There are many Christian and non-Christian organizations, counselors, and conference/retreat leaders who spend much time and money on that very subject.

And you have it backwards. Marriages are threatened because of moral and family value decay in America. Causing further decay will not rectify it. A return to our moral principles will.
