‘Native American’ Elizabeth Warren Contributed Recipes to The ‘Pow Wow Chow’ Cookbook

Yesterday’s Blaze report on Massachusetts senatorial candidate Elizabeth Warren revealed two thing: a) her claim to Cherokee Indian heritage was touted by more that just Harvard Law School and b) she and her campaign staff have done a pretty dreadful job of handling the public’s (understandably) negative reaction to her failure to produce proof of ancestry.

And it looks like one of the pieces of evidence she provided as proof of her Native American heritage (an obscure 1984 cookbook, “Pow Wow Chow,” written by her cousin Candy Rowsey) is going to be another headache for her PR staff.

“Elizabeth Warren was touting her claim of Cherokee heritage as early as 1984, according to a cookbook titled ‘Pow Wow Chow,’” the Boston Herald’s Hillary Chabot reports.

In the cookbook, the senatorial candidate is identified as “Elizabeth Warren, Cherokee.” In fact, her Cherokee title can be seen next to the five recipes she contributed. But what’s particularly interesting is that although Warren has the title of Cherokee, she isn’t identified as an official member of the Cherokee tribe in the cookbook.

“News of Warren’s Cherokee recipes comes as outraged members of the tribe — including a Warren supporter — demanded she release her employment records following reports that she has no documentation to prove her Native American ancestry,” Chabot reports.

“If I were her I would release those employment documents,” said Steve Russell, an enrolled Cherokee, “I guess she thinks because she doesn’t have to release them then no one will care, but I guarantee you Indians care, and I care.”

Twila Barnes, a Cherokee genealogist, was a little more straightforward: “She needs to admit the truth. There is no documentation showing that she has Cherokee ancestry. She needs to come clean and release her employment records.”

Needless to say, if it’s shown that Warren only claimed she was Cherokee Indian to help launch her prestigious careers at top tier universities, it will reflect very poorly on said universities. Perhaps realizing this, Harvard Law professor Charles Fried, the man who recruited Warren, has rushed to her defense.

Now We Know Elizabeth Warren Actually Contributed to the Published Cookbok Pow Wow ChowImage courtesy Boston Herald

“In spite of conclusive evidence to the contrary, the story continues to circulate that Elizabeth Warren enjoyed some kind of affirmative action leg-up in her hiring as a full professor by the Harvard Law School. The innuendo is false,” Fried said in a statement yesterday. “I can state categorically that the subject of her Native American ancestry never once was mentioned.”

William A. Jacobson of Legal Insurrection offers a little perspective (just in case you think this whole thing is just too silly):

In isolation this story is a little silly, except that it’s not in isolation. Warren was touted as Native American at the University of Pennsylvania and Harvard, listed herself that way in law association forms in the mid-1980s through mid-1990s, and touted herself in a cookbook as Cherokee.

Yet there is no evidence that she is Cherokee, and all the evidence is to the contrary.

Cold omelets with crab meat? Is that a real Cherokee dish or is she just describing herself? Warren will next claim she is a direct decendant of the Incas (for the Latino vote). Or maybe Harriet Tubman
(for the black vote). I doubt she even knows her true lineage. In fact, her lineage can be traced to a drunk skunk skinner and a broken prophylactic. The mother was a one-eyed, toothless stable maiden.

I had a great grandmother who was Cherokee on my mother‘s father’s side of the family. She died early in her family life and my uncle tracked down her burial site in Norcross, Georgia. He and have visited and cleaned the grave site. As well many of the graves around her’s. We discovered then that she had a child that died only a few days after birth buried next to her. I certainly appreciate her, and am proud of her since I know that I would not be here had she not been a part of the family. But, I was raised purely white. Yep, as Lewis Grizzard put it, I am so white that I am dancing impaired as well as singing impaired. But, both of my parents developed their careers and my Father worked in a national finance organization and worked up and down the eastern seaboard. My Mother also worked in finance and helped build a local credit union into a state wide element and started at this in the late ’50s. They hired a domestic housekeeper who was African-American. I essentially grew up with a co-mother who was black. She and my sisters and myself stayed in touch through the years until she passed away a short time ago. She was at my father‘s funeral in ’91, but was too sickly to attend my mother‘s funeral in ’96. But, she called each of us on the phone to pass along her condolences. She and her family where as much loved by us, as they expressed their love for us. I cherish this and all of the memories of those times.

What I am pointing out is that I would never attempt to steal my Great Grandmother’s heritage since I was not raised in it. But, I do have a point of view that has lead me to respect not only the differences of various races but the similarities as well. My family did not teach me to hate, but rather to respect all until any individual proves differently. I would never lean on a heritage that I never had anything to do with to get an upper leg on anybody. Warren is a true POS who feels that the outcome justify the means.

I am so sick of hearing this Liberal hack’s ridiculous claims of Native American heritage.

There are so many people in this country, myself included who have an ininitesimal amount of Indian blood flowing in our veins, but that doesn’t make us “People of Color”. I’m a white male who is rightfully not entitled the perks and benifits of Native American Birth. She is nothing more than a ridiculous academic who has found a way to benifit herselff based on a thin technicality.

“Fauxcahontus” made a calculated decision to check off “Native American” on an employment application some time in her past, and it appears that she did it more than once. The question that has to be asked is – why? There is only one logical reason: she wanted to be seen as, and considered to be, an official minority. She was looking for an edge, however slight; she wanted a “tie-breaker” that favored her being offered a job or position. She understood that certain institutions were looking to add minority employees and educators to their faculties. Sure enough, it worked, and her status as a Native American is reflected in educational publications as noteworthy as Harvard’s. This woman is a cheater, and she dishonestly portrayed herself as something she isn’t. Now she has to either admit it, or continue the lie. Don’t hold your breath… her need to succeed, is greater than her need to be honest with the public.
