NATO Protest Recap: Police Clash with Black Bloc; Shotgun Shells; Protesters Using Bottles of Urine and Feces?

CHICAGO (The Blaze/AP) — Chicago braced for more demonstrations Monday, with protesters vowing to march to the Boeing Corp. headquarters a day after police clashed with a group of demonstrators at the end of a march protesting the NATO summit. And that comes after at least 45 protesters have already been arrested and four officers reportedly injured.

Many downtown businesses have told their employees to stay home during the second and final day of the summit – where world leaders are discussing the war in Afghanistan, European missile defense and other security issues – because of traffic snarls and the possibility of more protests.

(Related: “Eat the rich and smash the state”)

More than two dozen Metra rail stations along a line that carries around 14,000 riders in from the southern suburbs on most weekdays will be closed and stations and platforms patrolled by a larger contingent of law enforcement personnel and K-9 units. The Chicago Transit Authority will have to reroute 24 buses through the summit zone.

Sunday was an active day for the protests. NBCChicago.com posted video of police clashing with violent “Black Bloc” protesters:

The Chicago Sun-Times has more from inside the Black Bloc clash:

But a “Black Bloc” of about 100 anarchists wanted something else. The group, which chanted “What do we want? Dead cops!” as it left Grant Park at 2 p.m., surged to the front of the protest crowd and tried to break through the imposing line of Chicago cops in riot gear blocking its path.

Then, in a scene Chicagoans feared ever since the city learned it would host the NATO Summit, the two sides violently clashed on live TV, with police nightsticks flailing and protesters unleashing a volley of sticks, bottles and at least one rock.

The battle at Michigan and Cermak flared and then slowed, and then flared again in bursts between 5 and 6:30 p.m. By then, much of the Black Bloc had slipped away, leaving behind a scene of bloodied protesters and four injured cops, including one stabbed in the leg.

Ironic video shows protester chanting about their protest being peaceful as some in their group remove a police barrier (language warning):

In addition, one man was arrested over the weekend after police found shotgun shells, “extended clips,” and anarchy flags in his car:

But that might not have been the worst of it. NBCChicago.com reports police arrested seven after officers caught them with water bottles filled with urine and feces:

NATO Protest Recap: Black Bloc, Human Feces, CNNs Don Lemon Weighs In

One CNN reporter on the scene said he was getting “smashed” in a “chaotic” scene as police tried to push protesters back:

And things weren’t as peaceful as some would have you believe. At about the four-minute mark below, CNN anchor Don Lemon voices his displeasure with police who were beating back a crowd of protesters — despite those protesters throwing objects at the police and one officer leaving the crowd visibly shaken and possibly injured:

That contradicts what local station MyFoxChicago reported. That station’s reporter applauded the police and their “incredible restraint”:

Organizers with the Occupy Chicago movement planned to gather at a West Side park at 9 a.m., and an hour later march toward the Boeing building along the Chicago River in the city‘s business district to protest the company’s role in building airplanes for the U.S. military.

Later, immigration rights activists will gather at the same park before boarding a bus to travel to the small village of Crete, about 35 miles south of Chicago, where federal officials are considering building a nearly 800-bed detention facility for illegal immigrants slated for deportation.

Andy Thayer, one of the main anti-NATO protest organizers, said he expected many demonstrators from out of town to leave Sunday night. But he said a strong contingent of protesters still will show up for the Boeing protest Monday morning and decried how city leaders and police officials have handled the protests.

“I am disgusted, particularly, with the upper echelon of our city,” Thayer said.

On Sunday, several thousand protesters marched through downtown in one of Chicago’s largest demonstrations in years, airing grievances about war, climate change and a wide range of other complaints as world leaders assembled for a NATO summit.

The protests drew together a broad assortment of participants, including peace activists joining with war veterans and people more focused on economic inequality. But the diversity of opinions also sowed doubts about whether there were too many messages to be effective.

And some of the most enduring images of the event were likely to be from the end – when a small group of demonstrators clashed with a thick line of police who tried to keep them from the lakeside convention center where President Barack Obama is hosting the gathering.

The protesters tried to move east toward McCormick Place, with some hurling sticks and bottles at police. Officers responded by swinging their batons. After nearly two hours, the two sides were still locked in a standoff, with police blocking the protesters’ path and the crowd refusing to leave. Some protesters appeared to have blood streaming down their faces.

Following the main skirmish, Police Superintendent Garry McCarthy said 45 protesters were arrested. Police said four officers were hurt, including one stabbed in the leg. Those numbers seemed certain to rise as new clashes erupted later.

Hundreds of protesters gathered late Sunday night near the Art Institute of Chicago as first lady Michelle Obama hosted a dinner for spouses of NATO leaders inside. At least 100 Chicago police officers in riot gear were also at the scene.

The protests lacked the size and single message that shaped the last major protest moment in Chicago, when nearly half a million people filled the city’s downtown in 2006 to protest making it a felony to be an illegal immigrant.

Associated Press writers Don Babwin, Ryan J. Foley, Carla K. Johnson, Robert Ray, Jim Suhr, Nomaan Merchant and Michael Tarm contributed to this report.

The G8, the UN, and many other global subsets are banning together to ensure “food security” for developing nations. The man who Occupies the Oval Office kicked off the G8 Summit with a brief speech about “mobilizing more than $22 billion” for a global food security initiative targeting a billion people who go hungry each year. He said the G8 was “launching a major new partnership to reduce hunger and lift tens of millions of people from poverty.” The countries he cited as examples were terrorist breeding, Islamic influenced poor nations–Keyna, Ethiopia and Somalia. He repeatedly spoke of government assisted food security, a term that could be a hallmark of the end time beast government.

Revelation 13:16-17 describes the end time beast government where “all, both small and great, rich and poor, free and bond, to receive a mark in their right hand, or in their foreheads: And that no man might buy or sell, save he that had the mark, or the name of the beast, or the number of his name.” The G8 initiative is not this government. It is, however, a type and shadow of this end time beast prophecy. Herein, the nations of the world are gathered together to end world hunger–a heart tugging, emotional and worthy cause. Except to say as did the Messiah in Matthew 26:11 that “For ye have the poor always with you.”

Normally if your acting confrontational to a police officer on the street in everyday life in this country, they would demand that you submit to arrest by laying down on the ground, if you resist, they then have permission to take you down by whatever means. All this being based on the police officer feeling threatened. With these protesters screaming in these police officers faces, how come they do not feel threatened enough to beat them down and arrest all of them? How come the rules seem to change with regards to police feeling threatened with regards to this scenario?

It’s not just the United States that has bent to the will of some self righteous protesters.

In Australia, entire business districts closed down and moved after Muslim immigrants would not patronize them (because they didn’t keep Muslim hours and observances). As a result the areas have gone down in commercial and residential value. Aussies are outspoken but in the last few years they’ve also been bending to the will of the lefty PC crowd.

The American OWS protesters are similar to Aussie Muslim extremists, except they probably consist of mostly Christians and probably some Catholics and perhaps even Mormon-Americans. Aside from that they are exactly the same as a bunch of Aussie immigrant muckrackers.

The POS reporter from CNN was on the side of the protesters no matter what the did. Screw him just another reason why CNN has crap ratings. The protesters were throwing bottles of feces and urine at the cops. Ziploc bags full of the same. I will fight to defend that right, no matter what stupidity you support. However the moment you cross the line and enter the realm of armed conflict, you’re on your own. You know…the truth is–Rahm was pretty much forced down our throats. There were no good Conservatives coming forward to run–and I don’t know that they could have. There was one guy early on who might have been good–but he got forced out of the race somehow…let’s put it this way–I remember hearing about him–and within a week or two–he was no more…for whatever reason. Probably didn’t want his personal life destroyed. Or simply didn’t have the money to put up a fight against Rahm. Sadly, this was the truth. I remember talking to quite a few Conservative friends–we were all hoping for a good candidate–particularly pro-life…but none were to be had…

yeah…not exactly. please don’t paint with such a broad brush…might end up getting a little on yourself there! not all Chicagoans are the same–far more Conservatives than you would think…and please let me know–who was our other option? Rahm basically ran unopposed. For all intents and purposes. It was him or one of Daley’s old stooges–unfortunate, but that’s the truth. No good candidates were able to make it into the race–if there were any at the beginning–they were quickly shut down or forced out…it’s the Chicago Way. As voters here–we get very little say. That being said–I did not vote for Rahm.
