Navy SEAL Combat Knife Made From World Trade Center Steel to Benefit Troops Killed in Copter Crash

Emerson Knives Inc. has long been producing custom knives for Navy SEALs.
Emerson’s CQC-6 knife, which stands for “Close Quarter Combat,” is a staple for SEAL Team 6 members. They’re prized possessions among the “real deal” men who carry them.
Now, in the wake of the August 5 helicopter crash that killed 30 U.S. troops, including 22 SEALs, Emerson has made a special, one-of-a-kind commemorative knife with a blade constructed with steel from the World Trade Center, to be auctioned off to benefit a memorial for the families of those killed.
According to Ernest Emerson, the company’s founder and CEO, the knife’s blade is cut from wreckage taken directly from the World Trade Center buildings. It is fully combat-ready, razor sharp, and built to exactly the same specifications as every other Emerson knife.
Its pocket clip features 30 stars, one for each of the American service member who lost their lives, plus one paw print for “Bart,” the military dog that was also killed.
In a post on the company’s website, Emerson explained more of the special details:
Their memorial knife is also built to symbolize the nature of US Naval Special Warfare Operations. The SEAL Trident is featured on the front of the knife, the sharpened side, of the blade representing the cutting edge, the offensive, attacking role of SEAL operations. The Army Aviation Badge is engraved on the rear side, the clip side for carry of the knife, representing the support role of the Air crews who insert the SEALS into their operating arena. The Grey bolsters reflect the SEAL’s ability to strike from the shadows, complete their mission then fade away back into the shadows like ghosts. The midnight black handles reflect the world of Black (covert) operations, the world where these highly trained elite operators excel in the execution of their deadly and dangerous skills, unknown to all but those who also wear the Trident.
[...]
[The Sept. 11 attacks are] the reason that these warriors were fighting and the reason that these heroes risk their lives and the reason for which, sadly, they gave the ultimate sacrifice. The World Trade Center blade also represents Americas unwavering commitment through the efforts of these frontline warriors to take the fight directly to the enemy. An enemy who wants nothing more and nothing less than to destroy the freedoms and liberties that we stand for and threatens our very way of life. It is because of these heroes, their vigilance and ferocious resolve, that we and our families are able to sleep soundly in our beds at night. We owe everything to them.
Bidding for the knife is currently up to $8,600. The auction will conclude Sept. 30.

Posted on September 11, 2011 at 8:45amRegardless of the nay sayers and off-topic comments, Emmerson makes a quality product and I salute them for taking the time and expense of fabricating such an iconic blade that some person will be proud to own, show, or maybe even donate. I’m certain that the chemistry of the steel was enhanced in order to produce a durable blade to Emmerson standards. But, that doesn’t diminish one bit where the steel came from. After all, the entire bow section of the USS New York is Twin Tower steel.

Posted on September 11, 2011 at 3:32amYour correct Crow, you can’t get steel to melt at those “low” temps. Structural steel, specifically the type used in the construction of the WTC towers looses almost half of its strength at about 800 degrees Fahrenheit. Do your same challenge, but with the blade holding up a mid size car, and see what happens….

Posted on September 11, 2011 at 3:19amI have thought long and hard about the 30, as a 100% disabled Veteran of D/S, I am very upset with the loss of all those aboard. This may and probably is the wrong time to say what I want to say but it has been eating at me from the inside out. I hang a flag on my home and from that day I’ve attached 30 black ribbons to that flag. As a ribbon falls I collect it and place it in a simple pine box. When all have dropped from the flag, I will take down that flag fold it and place it in the box along with the 30 ribbons for burial.
Report Post »During WW II, many posters were made about talking your work for the war effort, like–“Loose Lips Sinks Ships!” The aftermath of UBL, the civilians in DC were slapbacking each other and went blabbing to the media about T6 who they were and how they were the top of the top. There were shows describing this “covert” group and essentially unveiled their secrecy. Now the enemy not only knew who but where they were stationed in Afghanistan; no I am not naive and I am sure the enemy knew the location where our SOF are based. Did they know of T6 and what would be the prize for them to kill as many of them as possible? T6 can only be used at the specific orders of the CnC because of their nature, the group(s) who should have gone Airborne, Ranger or 10th Mountain. Remember wars, conflicts, and struggles, i.e., tied (Korea), loss (Vietnam), loss (Iranian rescue mission), loss (Beirut bombing) and loss (Somalia).

Posted on September 11, 2011 at 3:03amThis will be controversial but, these charitable efforts may be misdirected.
Warriors lost in combat are very well, remembered, recognized & their families are well taken care of. Monuments, remembrances & foundations are always created for elite warriors.
Even the general fallen warriors families’ get:
- $400K in SGLifeInsurance; a Death Gratuity of $100K;
- continuing Dependency & Independency Compensation: $1200-2000/mo;
- burial & funeral benefits including a choice of a grave site in any of 120 nat’l cemeteries, opening & closing of the grave, perpetual care, a Govt headstone or marker, a burial flag, & Presidential Memorial Certificate, at no cost; reimbursement payments are also available for transport of remains & a burial allowance of up to $6,900;
- generous GI Bill benefits transfer to both surviving spouse & children; continuing health care;
- continuing housing allowance for 1 yr, a relocation allowance, commissary, exchange & base access for life.
- Additionally, nearly all officers, senior enlisted & those in high risk fields have $100+ in private insurance.
Bottom line, even though no monetary gift or act of remembrance can ever make up for the giving of one’s last full measure of devotion most of these guys are well remembered, honored & their families taken care of …
It might be better to steer these charitable gifts towards those in the shadows: homeless & disabled vets.

Posted on September 11, 2011 at 8:52amI don’t think you read the article very clearly. The proceeds are to benefit a memorial for the fallen of this tragedy. You seemed to assume that it was directed elsewhere.
And since when is charity misdirected? Charity comes from the heart and soul? Because it doesn’t go to where you want it to go, doesn’t make it misdirected. It makes you misdirected in your assumption.
If you want charity to go where you desire, start a charitable foundation for that. Get off the controversial backs of others who are doing something about it.

Posted on September 11, 2011 at 6:53pmIt you read the actual Emerson Knife Inc. website it clearly states “This is the auction for the Emerson CQC-6 knife with all proceeds to be donated to the families of NSW personnel killed in action August 5th, 2011 in Afghanistan.“ & states so again.
It says nothing about the money going to build a memorial, instead it states “This very special knife was built to commemorate and memorialize the tragic events of August 5, 2011 in Afghanistan “ or more plainly this knife is the memorial.
If this company were really concerned about this cause it would offer matching contributions instead of just auctioning a single knife off. Also, the company makes no comment about where future profits from these knifes will go.
Again, these “silent warriors” as members of the special ops community are known do not want idolism, statues or memorials built to them. As a recently retired member of THE community & one who works w/ homeless & wounded vets I’m pretty certain the money from this auction would better benefit those living wounded & homeless vets than the “families of NSW KIA 5 AUG 11”.

Your as evil as the people who flew the planes into the builds themselves!
FOR YOUR VERY SMALL BRAIN THE STEEL DOESN”T HAVE TO MELT TO GET WEAK AND FAIL! IF THERE IS A ENOUGH HEAT (WHICH THERE WAS) THE METAL WOULD GET SOFT AND DO TO THE WEIGHT FROM THE FLOORS ABOVE HAD ENOUGH PRESSURE TO MAKE THE FLOOR ABOVE COLLAPSE ON WHICH THE REST OF THE FLOORS WOULD FOLLOW AFTER IT! IT”S VERY… VERY SMIPLE….. EVEN FOR YOU!
Also for you, “truthers” who don’t believe that 2 plans actually hit the Twin Towers. My senior engineer has a close friend that had space in an adjacent build by the Twin Towers. For a week no one was aloud to go into the building while officials check it over see if it was safe to enter. To the horror of my engineer’s friend found a week old headless, armless, and legless corpse seat belted in an airplane seat. Yeah I’m sure the authorities (W. Bush) planted that too……

The accident you mention happened right here in CT on I-95.
You can read the story, and see the AP photo of the partially collapsed overpass here:
http://www.urbanplanet.org/forums/index.php/topic/3161-i-95-crash-and-aftermath/
The fire, fed by the fuel from the tanker-truck softened the structural steel to the point it could no-longer hold-up to the weight of the pavement it supported.

We are on the eve of the 10 year anniversary of that fateful day when nearly 3000 people lost their lives. These past 3 years this nation has become more divided than ever in its history. And, now what Emerson Knives is doing to honor the families who lost loved ones from SEAL Team 6 last month draws sarcasm from JohnQ Public. I, for one, am grateful to Emerson for their wanting to do something in honor of these men who gave their all. My nephew was one of those on that fateful chopper, and knowing how much he and his fellow SEALS loved what they did, I think they’d be very grateful, too.
