Some say NBA player Kevin Garnett is a dirty basketball player. This doesn’t help his defense.
The Boston Celtics player was ejected from Friday night’s game versus the Phoenix Suns for taking a cheap shot to the groin of an opposing player, Channing Frye. The play caused an on-court kerfuffle between the teams that ended in Garnett’s early shower:
According to ESPN, Garnett joined his coach, Doc Rivers, in taking an early exit. Rivers was ejected earlier in the game for arguing with an official. Two of Garnett’s teammates, as well as Frye, were issued technical fouls.

Posted on January 29, 2011 at 4:25pmHe sure recovered awfully fast to be hit in the neither regions. The guy wasn’t even looking when it occurred. Did you see how he dropped to the floor when the other guy ignored him he jumped up and started acting all bullish. He didn’t get hurt and was probably humiliated by the whole thing.

One thing i don’t like about the CAVS and the other teams are thoses GOD awful tattos!!
Looks like an old rooster jumped them and left dirty black scratches all over them.

Posted on January 29, 2011 at 3:41pmbunch of whiners… That‘s how you are taught to defend someone when you can’t get to the ball fast enough to alter thier shot – you put a hand into them…. you distract them just a bit before they release the shot… granted, it’s supposed to be above the belt obviously, like a slight tap to the chest. Good defensive fundamentals, just a poorly placed check. I’ll say that I am no fan of the NBA or Garnett, but that is how the game is played.

Posted on January 30, 2011 at 12:28pmBaloney. No respectable coach teaches his players to hit a player on a jump shot if they can’t get there to contest the shot. One of the core tenants of the game is “never foul a jumpshooter”.
They especially aren‘t teaching a guy that’s seven foot tall to close out on a shooter with his hands in the area of his groin. Just running out with his hand up would force an altered shot

Posted on January 29, 2011 at 3:24pmhey taxed. the great thing about the internet and even this website is that you are free to choose which links you click on. You are also free to choose to comment on those stories. And even better yet you are free to choose to whine about the stories. Of course you are also free to choose to do none of the above. Of course its always amazed me how much effort people will take to complain that a story isn’t newsworthy or blaze-worthy. Why not choose to ignore it? If these stories don’t get hits the Blaze will stop carrying them.

Posted on January 29, 2011 at 3:17pmtaxed, I think it is news. It further illustrates the decline in our society. I coach a youth sports team; if one of my players did that I would eject them myself. They need to learn. Behavior like this is inappropriate.

Posted on January 29, 2011 at 4:48pmWally still plays actually. Garnett’s not a dirty player, it’s a rough game, stuff like this happens. Frye got up awfully quickly for a man that just took a shot to the jewels. Frye also begins the altercation, not Garnett.

It has nothing to do with the game as designed – but does have an immediate, if not fair, effect on the opponent.

Please actually have a reporter watch NBA basketball games regularly before spouting your ignorance. Do a survey of NBA players on th dirtiest players in the NBA, I’ll give 5-1 odds Garnett doesn’t even appear in the Top 30 Dirtiest players by his peers. This is just ignorant journalistic spin from The Blaze. Sports websites don‘t even have this as a featured story because it’s such a non-story.

Report Post »Even if it wasn’t intentional, which it was, it was a foul. He knew what he was doing. Look, keep making excuses for the antics in the NBA, and there will be no NBA. I can’t believe anyone still watches that game, and I was a major fan of the Warriors until they went to SF, then the 76ers until Wilt left for LA. They are a minor player in professional sports in Philly these days. I won’t be surprised if they eventually have to move. I don’t miss it one bit, just like I don’t miss the NFL since about 1980 or so. Same kind of behavior there. Spring training starts soon for the Phils.

Posted on January 30, 2011 at 10:52amJust to let everyone know that was not a dirty play. I have played basketball for over 15 years playing in 1000s of games all over the country. THAT WAS NOT A DIRTY PLAY. Back in the day, Larry bird and Dr, J fought with their FISTS at mid-court for no reason. Actually there was a reason, it was because Bird poured in 45 points and Dr. J only had about 6 points. Or how about when Rudy Tomjanovich from the Houston Rockets was punched directly in the face cracking his skull when he was running to the aide of his teammate. Rudy never played basketball again because of that punch. I agree that ONLY a simple foul should have been called on Garnett. I have seen many pro players tap shooters in the stomach to throw off their shots. Garnett was going up to challenege the shot (EVERY PLAYER IS TAUGHT TO CHALLENGE 3 POINT SHOTS) when Frye jumped higher than normal Garnett got Frye in the groin. And if that ‘dirty“ ”cheap” shot hurt so bad, Frye did a great acting job and also got off the floor pretty quick to fight Garnett after the “dirty” “cheap” shot. That game was being refed terribly FROM BOTH SIDES. If the NBA antics are so bad, maybe we should review the antics of other leagues such as the NFL. Sure the NEW YORK JETS can call other players on other teams aholes and other bad names and then after the game go and get arrested for DUIs and other great acts of stupidity. The NBA is not the best league, but Ray Lewis and Dante Stallworth WHO STILL PLAY IN THE NFL were linked and were convicted of KILLING OTHER HUMAN BEINGS!!!!! Kevin Garnett was playing defense and hit Frye in the groin when he was challenging the shot. GET OVER IT!!!! If you want to see real fist fights and cheap shots, look to the NBA’s past and you will see some real brawls!!!! PLEASEE do research before you say a basketball game turned into a hockey game. I mean there wasn’t even blood, and Frye was able to get off the floor in less than 5 seconds and talk smack circling Garnett. Also, three players from the Boston Celtics were given 4 technical fouls in that whole situation, and only ONEEE Phoenix Suns player (Frye) was given ONE technical foul even though both teams had numerous players on the floor pushing each other. That was def. a FOUL! But that was it!! Please watch more sports if you want to make a comment!!

I respect your views on animals, I never take a shot on an Elk unless I have an absolutely clear shot, and I do my best to ensure the animal suffers very little. Being part (1/8) American Indian, my grandfather taught me to respect nature because it gives us so much.

Posted on January 31, 2011 at 12:57amWhile the “groin shot” didn’t look like that big a blow ( I can only imagine), I believe the real intent to injure came when Garnette undercut the shooter. I think it was an attempt to cause an ankle injury because he deliberately left him no room to land. That isn’t a “great defensive move”, it was a double cheap shot. Well, I guess karma is a b____ Kevin. How many stitches did Gasol stick in your head today without so much as a foul being called (inadvertant contact bwahhhhahahahahah) ?
