NBC Apologizes for Omitting ‘Under God’ in Video of Children Reciting Pledge of Allegiance

Editor’s note: Our original post with the video of the Pledge montage can be seen here.
BETHESDA, Md. (AP) — An omission in the Pledge of Allegiance had NBC issuing an on-air apology Sunday during the U.S. Open.
The network opened its broadcast with a montage that included children reciting the pledge, but the words “under God” and “indivisible” were omitted.
The backlash on social media was quick and harsh, with some tweets calling for a boycott of NBC.
“We began our coverage of this final round just about three hours ago, and when we did it was our intent to begin the coverage of this U.S. Open championship with a feature that captured the patriotism of our national championship being held in our nation’s capital for the third time,” announcer Dan Hicks told viewers. “Regrettably, a portion of the Pledge of Allegiance that was in that feature was edited out. It was not done to upset anyone, and we’d like to apologize to those of you who were offended by it.”

Posted on June 20, 2011 at 4:39pmThe words “under God” were added by Congress in 1954 during the madness of the McCarthy era. Those of us who believe in the separation of church & state, find it an offense to have abridged the original pledge with the mention of a religious concept.
The founding fathers’ intent on separation of church & state seems to have been brushed aside & forgotten by some, but not by all. NBC had no reason to apologize.
“On 2002-JUN-26, a three judge panel of the 9th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals voted 2 to 1 to declare the Pledge unconstitutional because of the addition of the phrase “under God.” This decision only affects the states of AK, AZ, CA, HI, ID, MT, NV, OR and WA.
Report Post »The ruling stating that “the text of the official Pledge, codified in federal law, impermissibly takes a position with respect to the purely religious question of the existence and identity of God.“ ”

I can tell you from personal experience that no editor “accidentally” does this. Pieces like this require planning before and review afterward. There would have been many people who saw this piece and signed off on it before it hit the air. I’m betting there was some back-slapping going on as they congratulated each other on their little “message piece” by eliminating “under God, Indivisible” from the pledge. I don’t buy their retraction for one second! Bye bye, NBC. You won’t be missed on our television set.

The Pledge has been modified four times since its composition, with the most recent change adding the words “under God” in 1954.”

Whatever to you idiots that will boycott NBC.
NBC will never go out of business. Too big of a company with plenty of advertisers, Golf, NFL, Notre Dame, the Olympics and many other sports.
Sports alone will keep this company alive.
Only idiots of the Right would find this offensive.

Posted on June 20, 2011 at 10:45amTypical of the progressive agenda: nudge, wait and watch reaction, then offer a half-hearted apology to placate the matches. Really surprised that NoBrainsChannel didn’t use the typical excuse of being MIS-edited(in this case, usually misunderstood, misinterpreted, etc., etc.)

Posted on June 20, 2011 at 10:49amLet us revisit the title: NBC = [NATIONAL] Broadcasting Company
Now that we see it clearly in the past decade, as being a prominant ‘mouthpiece’ of the government, let us entertain its propoganda motive….yet, let us look at it from a ‘Communist Chinese’ perspective. With this example, you should start seeing the pieces fit together: Bill Clinton’s NAFTA push, George Soros’ “Open Society Institute”, our administration’s current stance on disrespecting boarders (at home and abroad), the propaganda to destroy traditional “indivisable” American Values “under God”, and, which flies in the face all Americans…here it is:
“The “philosophy” of the Communist Party completely contradicts the authentic traditional Chinese culture. Traditional culture respects the mandate of heaven, as Confucius once said, “Life and death are predestined, and wealth and rank are determined by heaven.” [20] Both Buddhism and Taoism are forms of theism, and believe in the reincarnation cycle of life and death, and the karmic causality of good and evil. The Communist Party, on the contrary, not only believes in atheism, but also runs wild in defying the Tao and assaulting heavenly principles. Confucianism values family, but the Communist Manifesto clearly promulgates abolition of the family. Traditional culture differentiates the Chinese from the foreign, but the Communist Manifesto advocates the end of nationality.” [Read More Below]

Posted on June 20, 2011 at 11:27amLeaving “under God” out of the Pledge of Allegiance is “technically” correct. We have allowed the courts to throw God and Jesus the Christ out of every aspect of this country. We are no longer “under God” or his protection. This is what happens when the Christian churchs are afraid of the IRS and losing their 501(c)3 status (MONEY). The people are ASKING THE COURTS FOR PERMISSION to mention God in their speaches and begging for permission to erect Christian symbols. Those who ask for permission are cowards and are denying Jesus before men. These same people will tell you that they would die for Christ… that’s B.S. If they won’t stand up TO the IRS and the Judges, they won’t stand up FOR Jesus.

With nothing left to report on besides Obama’s failed attempt to be a president and how he and other liberals like yourself have run this country further into the ground in 2 years more than any president has combined, we are just waiting on 2012 to take care of that.
So yes, report on other things. How many times can we hear how our economy is in ruins and is getting worse. We know! The people know as well. Everyone who voted for Obama knows.
Time to move on and report about other things that are trying to ruin the country as well.

Posted on June 20, 2011 at 12:20pm“Between 1924 and 1954, the Pledge of Allegiance was worded:
“I pledge allegiance to the flag of the United States of America, and to the Republic for which it stands; one nation, indivisible, with liberty and justice for all.”
“It was first published in a children‘s magazine Youth’s Companion, in 1892 to celebrate the 400th anniversary of Columbus’ arrival in the Americas. The word “to” was added before “the Republic” in 1892-OCT.”
“He considered including the word ”equality” in the pledge, but decided against it because he knew that many Americans at the time were opposed to equality for women and African-Americans.”
“In 1953, the Roman Catholic men’s group, the Knights of Columbus mounted a campaign to add the words “under God” to the Pledge.
The nation was suffering through the height of the cold war, and the McCarthy communist witch hunt. Partly in reaction to these factors, a reported 15 resolutions were initiated in Congress to change the pledge.”

As far as I know the pledge was: “I pledge allegiance to my Flag and the Republic for which it stands, one nation, indivisible, with liberty and justice for all.”. Either that or people changing the wording of other things are right as well (and as far as I know the common denominator on this site is they are not because then they would be activist). I think this is a very valid reason with a much larger impact for us to boycott NBC to get our point across. Surely there must be more counrty loving Patriots, Conserveatives and Traditionalists than there are country hating Communists, Progressives and Leftwinged Liberals. The last election showed what power we had. We need to show NBC what we can do. They need to know that they are crossing the line when they are messing with OUR Pledge of Allegiance! They need to know that their time is borrowed.
