NBC Gives Roseanne ‘Behead-the-Rich’ Barr New Sitcom About Mobile Home Life

NBC Gives Roseanne Barr Deal for New Downwardly Mobile Family SitcomRoseanne Barr, the comedian-actress who earlier this month said bankers who don’t give up their wealth should be “beheaded,” has landed a deal with NBC for a new family sitcom about “lower class living,” according to the Hollywood Reporter.

Titled “Downwardly Mobile,” the show will revolve around — yes — Barr’s character, her family and other residents living in a mobile home park.

Deadline Hollywood reported:

In 1987, NBC had first crack at a working class family sitcom starring then-up-and-coming standup comedian Roseanne Barr. Legendary NBC programmer Brandon Tartikoff famously passed, and the project landed at ABC where it went to series, Roseanne, which ran for 9 years. Twenty four years later, another sitcom about a lower middle class family starring Barr hit the market, and this time NBC and its new programming chief Bob Greenblatt jumped on it. The network bought the multi-camera comedy, titled Downwardly Mobile, with a script commitment plus penalty. Co-created by Barr, her boyfriend John Argent and former Roseanne executive producer Eric Gilliland, who will serve as showrunner, the ensemble comedy revolves around a family and friends living in a mobile home community.

NBC has committed to the script and will pay a penalty if the pilot isn’t made.

In May, Barr penned an article for New York Magazine in which she reflected on the working class themes of “Roseanne:”

I wanted to do a realistic show about a strong mother who was not a victim of Patriarchal Consumerist Bullshit—in other words, the persona I had carefully crafted over eight previous years in dive clubs and biker bars: a fierce working-class Domestic Goddess. It was 1987, and it seemed people were primed and ready to watch a sitcom that didn’t have anything like the rosy glow of middle-class confidence and comfort, and didn’t try to fake it.

Here are her previous comments on the rich:

Barr of course also announced a bid for president of the United States back in August, running under the made-up “Green Tea Party.” She is also running for prime minister of Israel.

The announcement of NBC’s deal with Barr — despite her comments about the wealthy — comes one week after ESPN fired Hank Williams Jr. from “Monday Night Football” for using an analogy referencing President Barack Obama and Hitler.

    The Government should crack down and prosecute those responsible for crippling the world economy in the various subprime mortgage scams (among others). To date not one “fat cat” has been roped in. With that I agree with Rosanne but that’s where it ends.

    Obama and his legion of minions always uses the abstract yet faceless terms “greedy Wall Street bankers” and “fat cat” but does nothing about it besides painting all “capitalists” with the same Bush (I mean brush).

    This rhetoric is deliberate, evil and is setting the system up for collapse – a few bad apples will ruin the barrel. Has anyone heard of Presidential Directive HSPD-20 or Executive Directive 51? Just wait until Obama sees the opportunity to enact this little known but massively consequential directive. May God help us all!

      The untold story in this whole national crisis is that President Clinton put on steroids the Community Redevelopment Act, a well-intended Carter-era law designed to encourage minority homeownership. And in so doing, he helped create the market for the risky subprime loans that he and Democrats now decry as not only greedy but “predatory.”

      Sub-prime “mortgage scams” were necessitated by Fannie Mae and the U.S. Government, that required banks to sell low-income loans in their “pools” of loans they needed Fannie Mae to “securitize” for them. This was ALL caused by government regulation…forcing and enabling…now, bankers, being good businessmen, found a way to make money on that, for a while.

      I’m going to disagree with many of you in that I believe this show may be successful. Half of Americans pay no income tax. There are a ton of really really poor ppl out there that do little but watch TV. They have the IQ of a toad and they vote for democrats. They live in trailer parks and they have little to no ambition to get out of the trailer. They are content with life being simple and they are happy in their little trailer. This show may be a hit with them and I could honestly see it being used as a tool by the Left to rip on the wealthy, the Right, and capitalism in general. This will be interesting.

      How do I know this? I was an Enterprise Architect for a mortgage bank…and spent lots of time making sure our systems could report on CRA and other government regulations. Don‘t tell me this isn’t true…I HOSTED the Office of Thrift Supervision, and, wrote the reports from our systems to our Fannie Mae task masters…pooling up loans for them, and pointing out WHAT loans were from low-income. Folks should really KNOW the details before they accuse the bankers of being the sole villains here…YOUR social engineering congressman, Barney Frank, is a BIG cause of this. Did you KNOW for example, that banks MUST have capital in reserve to cover each loan they make? So that if the loans default (and the default rate, even today, is less than 10%) they don’t collapse. You should really KNOW what you are talking about, before you sling crap like this…makes you look like an ignorant a-hole.

      @smithclar3nc3 You can repeat this standard Rush and GB cause of the crisis BS but that does not come close to either explaining or shedding light on the practices that the Wall St. practices that were the root cause. The vehicles that were knowingly created were the mortgage back securities and the credit default swaps. Both done to avoid the applicable banking and insurance regulations. Standard mortgage practice would have been to assign and collect PMI with the high leverage mortgages. That was not done as the credit default swaps were supposed to back stop the risk. Of course the credit default swaps did not have any reserves behind them so they were fictitious or in clear language a fraud. No doubt a ton of money was flowing from Wall St. to Clinton, Bush Jr. and numerous members of Congress on both sides of the isle. Trust me at some point people will realize what a scam Equity funds are and the similarly fraudulent effect they have had on P/E ratios and stock price inflation. Cheap and abundant money created an absurd level of real estate inflation which was destined to correct itself, as the stock price inflation has also done. It also doesn’t explain the refinancing by middle class Americans who took checks and bought cars and boats with 30 year mortgage money. Bush liked the positive impact the practice of cheap mortgage money had on demand and the economy. Let’s keep in mind Greenspan warned everyone several years before about excesses in housing.

They routinely collect 2.5 percent of the principal of any investment annually for donation to charitable institutions, fine recipients of their investment 7 percent for transgressions of Shariah law (and donate the fine to charity), and only invest in projects compliant with the rules of Shariah.

      Well, As Roxane is a communist, we can go to her home in Hawaii and eat her food, sleep there for free, and sell some of her goods because for her is right to share, so.       Rosanne gives the perception that she really is trailer park trash. like the snobs label . They are perfectly nice and respectable people given a bad name because they live a more simple life. There are many very nice mobile home parks across this country. Don’t know how they got such a filthy name. Nothing wrong with living in a trailer as long as it isn‘t with the type folks who live in getto’s.

      Perfect part for this woman who screeched the National Anthem and scratched her crotch afterward.
      She sets the example of what most consider trailer park trash, not the decent people who live there.
