NBC News: A Settlement Was Paid Out in Cain Sexual Harassment Case

Herman Cain’s drama regarding sexual harassment claims that have dominated political headlines over the past 24 hours doesn’t seem to be waning.
Earlier today, NBC news said it confirmed that one woman did, indeed, receive a settlement from the National Restaurant Association after she complained about Cain’s alleged inappropriate conduct. NBC News, though, is not disclosing the name of the woman.
Earlier today, Cain appeared on Fox News, where he claimed that the allegations were “false” and “baseless.” What’s most interesting is that Cain claims that he has no knowledge of any settlement monies. Here are his words on the matter:
“Outside of the Restaurant Association, absolutely not. If the restaurant association did a settlement, I am not — I wasn’t even aware of it and I hope it wasn’t for much, because nothing happened. So if there was a settlement, it was handled by some of the other officers that worked for me at the association. So the answer is absolutely not.”
If the NBC report is true and someone can prove that Cain was aware of the payout, his campaign — and his image — could take a major hit. Of course, it’s possible that he knew nothing about the settlement, as he has indicated.
Below, see Cain discuss these issues at the National Press Club earlier today:

Posted on October 31, 2011 at 6:12pmI certainly believe Cain. So a settlement was made? Big freaking deal. I just made an offer to settle a meritless case (yes, I am a lawyer) because it is in my client’s best interests — the lawsuit has a certain “nuisance value” and my client is a businessman. Herman Cain did not settle the claims against him — the association did and it certainly was based upon an economic analysis.

Posted on October 31, 2011 at 6:17pmyou have a small typo (2112).
Report Post »There is something a little fishy about this possible indiscretion. I’ve worked on a number of sexual harassment cases and it is not all that common for them to be settled without substantial discovery, especially for a group as big as the National Restaurant Association. I’m sure they have a lot of lawyers on staff and I doubt they would give a settlement without any legwork or proof of some off-color behavior. The other odd thing, and I don’t know if I got the facts right on this, how many women received settlements? I heard 5. It seems very unlikely that 5 separate women would come up with these types of claims without having any basis for them. This just doesn’t happen. Maybe he was just very friendly and in his position of power it was taken the wrong way…but 5 times. That would be possible only if these women knew he was going to run for president. Otherwise, sooo unlikely. Is Cain married? I’ve never seen his wife or any kids…if not married, the next allegation will be that he is gay.

Posted on October 31, 2011 at 5:10pmSteelhead:
While a good number of Blacks in America profess conservative leanings, they stick almost exclusively with the democrats. Why is this? If so many disagree with liberal policies, why don’t they defect? Well, one reason is a multi-generational effort by the left to instill a sense of dependence with threats of reduced benefits among other things. Another reason is what we are seeing here: real racism is always shown against a Black conservative, no matter what the foray. If it‘s going to ruin your and your family’s life to stick your head up and say “I’m not following the mindless flock”, why not just swim along like the steelhead, somewhat comfortable and feigning knowledge that all that awaits at the head of the river is a quick, degenerative end?
I am excited, not just that Cain is a Black conservative running for president, nor that Cain is overwhelmingly more qualified than the Occupier-in-Chief, but that slowly Black America is finally, FINALLY remembering that freedom of thought is better than slavery to liberal masters.

Heck, Anthony Weiner would still be a Congressman if they didn‘t think it would have a negative impact on Obama’s campaign. Clanance Thomas was smeared with absolutely no real evidence. The way the left works, all you need todo is accuse someone and they are guilty.

Posted on October 31, 2011 at 6:01pmRIVERDOG…settlements like this take place in the country all the time. Posted on October 31, 2011 at 4:46pmWhy did Cain say the economy was just fine precisely one week before the Federal Reserve’s housing bubble exploded?
Why does Cain ignore the Constitution in regard to fiat paper currency and the central bank?
A dollar was defined as 371 1/4 grains of fine silver. The Constitution assigned Congress (not a private state-sanctioned banking cartel) the power to “COIN money and regulate the value thereof…” How does one COIN paper notes? The Founders were hostile to “bills of credit,” i.e. paper currency.
The Constitution refers to “Standards of Weights and Measures.” That is a reference to the WEIGHT of precious metal in a coin. There were many metal coins in circulation at the time. The dollar proper was a weight of silver. All other coins could be priced in terms of the dollar (weight of silver). Private mintage (free market money) to compete with the govt. was not prohibited by the Constitution.
Why does Cain think that the FED can centrally plan the most important price in the economy in the interest rate? In a free market the price of money (interest) is determined by the supply of savings and the demand for credit. If any price in the economy has to be free market, it should be the price of money.
The Federal Reserve, planned interest rates, collectivized risk, and fiat currency are all anathema to a free market.
Why did statist Cain embrace a socialist solution to a problem resultant from central planning.
Ron Paul predicted all of this years i

They had various young, overly-fit models in clean-cut corporate friendly attire posing next to various informational slides. Typical color scheme with lots of blue and white. As generic as they could possibly be. One of the models was laying on her back, reading a book.
A female employee filed a complaint with HR about the picture (the hag worked a couple aisles over from me), and had the whole shebang removed. She said, “Nobody reads a book like that.”
If these things go to court, the witch cries about how she is so downtrodden by the picture of the girl reading a book, then the evil company must pay a huge settlement and THEN the EEOC’s lawyers triple their fees. After years of discovery so that the EEOC can really pile on the hours, the bill is astronomical, even if the complainant is only awarded a dollar.

Posted on October 31, 2011 at 4:21pmTHE POLITICS OF PERSONAL DESTRUCTION
The hearings to confirm Clarence Thomas’ appointment to the Supreme Court were ending. His opponents had been unable to find a flaw in his career or character that would deny him the appointment. When all else fails, the last refuge of the scoundrel engaged in the politics of personal destruction is a charge of sexual harassment. Why? Sexual harassment cannot be proven or disproven. The only evidence is “He said- She said”. Guilt or innocence just depends on who you believe and the sexual innuendo has considerable emotion attached to it. There is no defense, and the charge of sexual harassment can only damage the victim.
Even though the tactics failed to stop Mr. Thomas’ appointment, the same tactic is being used to attack Herman Cain.
The liberal character assassins have searched for months for a flaw in Mr. Cain’s career or character, to allow them to stem Mr. Cain’s growing popularity and eliminate him from consideration as the Republican nominee for President in 2012.
Apparently, the liberal character assassins were unable to find the flaw and settled for a charge of sexual harassment, the last refuge of the scoundrel engaging in the politics of personal destruction.
It is a testament to Mr. Cain’s character and career that the liberal character assassins had to settle for a charge of sexual harassment. SEE cartoon:
