Nebraska Senate Candidate John Bruning Says Welfare Recipients Like Raccoons

Nebraska Attorney General and 2012 Senatorial candidate John Bruning

In a recent speech, Nebraska Attorney General and 2012 GOP Senatorial candidate John Bruning drew an interesting analogy. With great fanfare, he compared welfare recipients to…ravenous raccoons.

In a video that was shot by a liberal group called the American Bridge 21st Century, the politician can be seen making the curious connection. In the clip, Bruning tells the audience a story about a local construction project that was stopped in its tracks so that it wouldn’t harm endangered species. TPM has more:

…Bruning makes the comparison as part of an elaborate metaphor originally focused on environmental regulations. He describes a requirement that workers at a construction project gather up endangered beetles by luring them into a bucket with a dead rat in order to release them elsewhere. But the plan is thwarted when hungry raccoons then eat them straight out of the rat-infested bucket. Which, according to Bruning, is a perfect image to illustrate how welfare recipients receive their benefits.

“So the biologist has to go out there, and he sets these traps. They put a rat carcass in the bottom, and the beetles crawl up and they fall into the bottom of it. And they put all these buckets up and down the side of the road and they capture all the Burying Beetles. The biologist goes out in the morning, grabs the beetles, and they take them two miles down and they gently let the beetles out. So that the beetles will survive.

The raccoons figure out the beetles are in the bucket. And it’s like grapes in a jar. The raccoons, they’re not stupid, they’re going to do the easy way if we make it easy for them — just like welfare recipients all across America. If we don’t send them to work, they’re going to take the easy way out.”

    Jon Bruning is running against Ben “Cornhusker Kickback” Nelson. Without Nelson caving, we would not have ObamaCare. As a NE Mom — I will be working hard for Jon Bruning and donating to his campaig. You should hear the misleading/false ads Nelson already has on the air here in NE in an attempt to scare seniors. Makes me sick… But in NE we say “Fool me once, shame on you. Fool me twice, shame on me.” We WON’T be folled by “Slick Benny” again!

      He is spot on!!! Free ‘beetles’ and they will complain about 1. the taste; 2. the cost (not free enuf) and 3 the amount….too few…………..the ‘safety net’ is now a trampolene..

      He made a very good analogy. I might add that the last time the ravenous raccoons held a rally the National Mall mall looked like my driveway after they root through my trash cans.

      Government‘s profligate generosity with other people’s money has been going on since (at least) the late 1960′s when I was in college. As an example: one of my college mates got pregnant with her boyfriend in Junior year. It was deliberate. They chose not to use contraceptives. When the baby was born, they got married, went on public assistance, continued their education, and graduated. The interesting part is that his parents were very rich and he had a normal relationship with them. There was no lack of parental/family monetary resources. Yet the family lived off other taxpayers and the government let them do it.

      It is about time we start thinking and talking about the people on Welfare,All you hear is about cuts

      in Social Security and Medicare,We the people that are on Social Security have not had a raise
      in the last two years,and now Dictator Obama says that we will not get a raise next year 2012.
      Well lets start cutting Welfare,I have seen these people all of my life,they just keep laying down and having more babies so that they can get a bigger check!
      These babies have a father and a mother,IF THEY LAY DOWN AND MAKE BABIES,THEN THEY

      When Obama said that He did not know if the people on Social Security would get their check in August,Many people were very up set,How could a American President say that to the Elderly
      Senior Citizens that worked all of their life and payed into the Social Security fund?????

      Lets get started on working on the people that are on Welfare,It is time for 50% of them to get off
      the bus,and get a job,Lay down and make babies,you keep them ,you pay for them!!!

      Bum Thrower is right. I used to run a charity that provided food and toys at Christmas. I stopped when one woman told me that she didn’t like the cherry pie in her box with her turkey, fixings for dressing, sweet potatoes, green beans, rolls etc. In fact, we started checking with other charities and established a list of those signing up for help. Guess what? The names on those 15 lists were the same. We were fooled. We weren’t helping, we were just enabling those who didn’t want to work to scam from those who might really have needed help. It is a shame. So much for security net- as long as there are folks who will take it all there is not safety net for those who need.

    At least someone sees it right! We need to get these welfare folks out working! What do they do all day? They need jobs! States should only allow 30-50 days of help and get these folks back to work! Instead we are helping them destroy themselves by doing nothing.

      WORK..how can they. They have to set up their food stamps, Planned Parenthood Appointments, attend the local ACORN meeting, Be demonstrators for Unions and gather at rallies. Must go to get their free dope. Then apply for free higher education grants. Prepare for their exams with govt training. They be too busy to work.

      Put the unemployment offices in the community colleges and if you want a check you’ve got to take classes 6 hours a day. If you’ve got kids, let’s give some daycare. We’ll give you help with food, and housing withing walking distance of the school. You’ve got two years, and then you get cut off completely.

      You can’t abandon people, but you don’t have to pander to them forever either.

      Another way they mirror each other is the fact that racoons will take your food nightly and then hiss and throw fits if you get too close to them. Bottom-feeders take and take and take and will fight you to the death if you challenge anything that might affect what they get.

      Essentially, both are a ridiculously ungrateful species.

    He’s going to get flack, but it is time for us to start speaking up and telling it like it is. Most welfare recipients are parasites–not all, but most. Many have illigitimate children to increase the amount of their checks. Many see these checks as reparation for slavery, even though they themselves were never slaves. They consider it their “right.” The Supreme Court ruled it unconstitutional to tie a woman’s tubes after her second illigitimate baby. But perhaps, we need a law that says the state will help support only the first two and no more. Now that they’ll be getting free birth control pills, it should be enacted.

      A Repulican legislator here in Oklahoma is going to introduce a bill that would require welfare recipients to take a drug test to get and keep their welfare. Also, but I may be wrong, but here there is a limit on the number of kids we’ll pay for. I‘m going to research this and if we don’t I’m going to contact my representative to introduce such a bill.

      I have always advocated that a woman’s tubes should be tied after the second illegitimate child. Have all the babies you want but not at my expense. The same goes for men who father more that two children. Get fixed!!!!!

    If you are a lifetime welfare recipient and you have not applied yourself because of a bunch of bullsh-t lies and laziness then you are worse than a raccoon because raccoons work their asses off for their food and they will bite off an arm to stay free and alive welfare lifers would only lose an arm if they could sue for millions for it and consider freedom sucking off the tit of prolific citizens who apply themselves in life and pay the way for a lot of absolute losers. Raccoons have more respect for themselves than most lazy humans anyway. Of any color. Laziness, like diversity, is in the mind not the skin. Chris mathews is a dumbass that should be on welfare for his mental disorder “Progressiveness”. I had to say that I dislike that wanna be man so much for being like Nero’s but boy.

You’ll have to drive around in his Mercedes, and he’ll supply all of your clothes. Because of the long hours, meals will be provided. You’ll be expected to escort her on her overseas holiday trips. You’ll have an adjoining room. The starting salary is $200,000 a year.” The guy says, “You’re bullshi**ing me!” The social worker says, “Yeah, well, you started it.”

      They work harder at trying NOT to work than they would if they had a job.
      Also, it’s infectious. I know a family whose daughter was dating a welfare family’s boy. She saw how easy it was to get and stay on welfare and crossed over. Now she is lost to “them.”
      They find every place they can to get free food, or free anything, and who have babies to increase the amount they can get.
      They are white trash welfare bums.
      And you thought by “them” I was saying black, didn’t you?

      LIMIT WELFARE to a FIXED TIME LIMIT.

      FIVE YEARS MAX, per person, over the age of 18.

      PER LIFETIME. NO EXCEPTIONS.

      Use one year now, and four years later, or any other combination, but……..

      FIVE YEARS MAX, NO EXCEPTIONS.

      I don’t see too much wrong with that…but HuffPo would. What people refuse to make the distinction between is those who actually need the help temporarily (what it was intended for) and those who make a lifestyle of it. He was actually criticizing our government. And it’s the truth.
