Neil Cavuto & Liberal Congresswoman Have Must-Watch Smack Down Deficit Debate

Neil Cavuto & Liberal Congresswoman Have Must Watch Smack Down Deficit Debate

On his Fox News show this afternoon, Neil Cavuto spoke–spiritedly–with Rep. Eddie Bernice Johnson (D-Texas) about the deficit.

For a sense of how animated their debate was, consider this exchange:

Cavuto: “We’re going to hell in a hand basket”

Johnson: “I think you’re already there!”

In their must-watch seven-minute debate, you really get a sense of the conservative position (we’re broke!) versus the liberal position (raise taxes to keep spending!).

As Cavuto repeated his mantra throughout the interview–we’re broke, broke, broke, broke, broke–Johnson managed to get her two cents in, saying:

You know what? Your problem is, you just don’t listen. You just scream and you’re screaming the same thing these fools are screaming here. We’ve got to have innovation.

She went on, “We’ve got to still have vision, we’ve got to still have research…we still got to educate our young people.” If the cuts to spending are too deep, we’ll have “no education, no innovation, no health care–seniors will be out of nursing home,” she concluded.

We need to INVEST! she said.

“We don’t have money to invest,” Cavuto responded wryly.

Well it’s easy enough to get it, says the congresswoman: Raise taxes!

      And race has absolutely nothing to do with it. There are at least two black men that I’d vote for without hesitation, Allen West and Herman Cain. Both of them could run circles around Obama, or any other liberal, without any problem at all.

      Nightmare? That’s a dream right there! If the black community could walk away from the Welfare culture and solve their education issues by getting non-corrupt, qualified people into the school systems (i.e. ditch unions) think what a boon that would be to the USA! Educated, hardworking, non-criminals contributing to society. Tax revenues climb, crime drops, “entitlement” spending can go up for the truly needy. True libertarians say that simply stopping the war on drugs would accomplish this, but I believe it’s much more engrained into the fabric of urban black communities at this point. It will take some leadership that your blessed Obama lacks. It will require tossing out the victim criers like Sharpton and finding true examples of a successful proud black man like Charles Payne.

I will do it slowly so that pay be you will understand. Mr. Obama is doing a bad job as President, appears to be incompetent, is the worst President in modern history, and is black.
      I and most people could care less what race he is. We just want a honest man in the office who does a good job. I and most people DO NOT CARE what color the skin of the President is, they care about how he does his job. Those who are racists are the ones who think that most important thing is the color of his skin. Sound like YOU doesn’t it?

      Is this news to you? Dems have been harvesting the votes of minorities for decades!

      You do realize the KKK was founded by Dems right? You realize the best way to hold a race down is to teach them they’re victims, and keep them in failing schools, demonize the “wealthy” and then portray yourself as being on their side, and buy their votes by giving them just enough to get by, but Not succeed. You do realize thats the Dems M.O. right? Oh, well you do now – spend 5 minutes on Google and look it up.

      heard and read about both the flat tax and the fair tax plans. both have merit. there is a large concensus that 12.5 to 13% is what would be nessesary to run the fed asa ia. bging it down to 8-10% and shrink the fed. then work on limiting the state and local gow give away programs as well. There is 1 thing i really like about the fair tax. it gets the underground economy to cough up the cash that they haven’t been.the underground economy is the drug dealers etc.

Where will all those precious poverty fighting programs (that have never done anything to curb poverty) be???? How many times can you borrow money from the rest of the world and print your money to pay them back before you are left high and dry????? Any one ever hear of inflation???? Well we are getting ready to find about it shortly if you don’t know about it. You think raising taxes on the rich and corporations are going to spur job growth, really???? People are absolutely ridiculous in their arguments and it is no coincidence that the drum beat of tax and spend is beating louder and louder, it is a coordinated effort by Soros (Mr. America can take on more debt), Unions, and the socialists in government.

      Why does anyone believe that cutting taxes for the rich produces jobs? Someone explain that to me please. Let’s suppose you make a company that makes a thousands widgets a month. And, with the people on your payroll, you can produce a thousand widgets a month. You get a tax break. Do you hire more people? Of course not, you should be fired if you do. If you can meet demand, you don’t hire more people. You hire more people when there is more demand for your product, not when you have more money.

      Look at the Bush tax cuts. Did the unemployment rate go down? Answer: No. Look it up. Were jobs created? Answer: No, job creation increased, yes, but less than the increase in population. And, of course, the economy crashed in last year of his Presidency into the worst economic calamity since the Great Depression.

      Where in the world do we get the idea keeping the Bush tax cuts, which tripled the deficit, are a good idea?

If I‘m making money I’d want to take those profits and apply them to making more money. It would involve hiring researchers to develop a new product, hiring construction workers to make a new building to make my new product, new workers to make to new product etc.. JZS, let me give you some actual data that I am directly familiar with. When people have more money through tax cuts or whatever they increase their discretionary spending, maybe loosen their belt a little. Rich or poor, they all do it. But when they rich do it they spend more money. When it comes to tax breaks the richer they are the more money they get back, thius the more money they spend.

      I live on the coast of Maine where luxury boats are built. When rich people are taxed heavily they don’t spend as much on luxuries. that means some of my friends lose their jobs because fewer people are buying these boats and so the shipyards close or lay off half their people. I know people who have been laid off. I have myself seen no work in light construction because rich people with summer houses are putting off new projects and improvements. You give take less money away from these rich people in taxes and I can testify that some of my friends will get hired at the boatyard and I will have work building a new porch or re-siding a summer house.

      As far as businesses go. If you give a tax break to a business it will have more liquidity to invest and take risks. It is not so easy to say when the demand goes uo you will hire more people because meeting a greater demand entails creating a larger production that is prohibitively expensive if that demand suddenly evaporates. Thus all attempts to satisfy a greater demand entail risk. The greater demand you are trying to meet the greater the potential profit but also the greater the potential loss if the demand dries up. When money is tight such risks become too great for many companies. the smarter money then lies in nhunkering down with a manageable number and not to get ambitious.

      High tax rates discourage risk taking and ambition in the market. Thus few new jobs are created and fewer people hired.

      ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
      When the economy slows down because people are losing jobs, they don’t buy those widgets you spoke of. People are laid off, stores close, business chains close, malls go bankrupt. less money is being spent because people are not buying as much, are not driving as much, are watching their pennies. The government suffers because SALES TAXES are greatly diminished. Income taxes are not there. Back to the widgets __ the widget maker has to lay some of his people off. The dollar has lost some of its value because the print-happy folks in Washington turned on the money machine and would not turn it off.
      The already too-high corporate taxes are passed on to the consumer, and the problem deepens. But give the corporations and even small businesses a tax break, and they can afford to put people back to work, which will bring more sales tax revenue for governemnts to operate on. The government cannot create jobs because the government has no product.
      Obama/Soetoro claims to have added over 800,000 jobs since he has been in office.
      Guess how many new federal employees have been added since he took office. Over 800,000 jobs. The money has to come from somewhere to pay the salaries, which are well over private industry’s levels for the same type of work. If we got along without those 800,000+ jobs BEFORE Obama/Soetoro took office, why can’t we get along without them NOW? What good are they? They do not produce a product.
      Raise taxes on the “rich,” and you will see them move their businesses overseas. If they are rich without operating a business, can you tax them more?
      Maryland raised their taxes significantly. What happened? The wealthy LEFT MARYLAND, and Maryland was in worse shape than they were before.
      THE SECRET IS SMALL GOVERNMENT AND LOWER TAXES, if you want the economy to thrive. Otherwise, America will go bankrupt, and the government will be overthrown.
There was a little coke/pepsi plant in about every small town in the USA. Now we have a mega plants in Denver, LA, Phoenix, Atlanta etc. etc.. We have cut the work force due to technology. To add on top of this we are outsourcing many jobs to other countries. We send our kids to college so they won’t have to lay under a filler like I did. Thats fine but there are only so many plant manager jobs. Somebody has to lay under that filler(we have the illegals do it now). Our kids graduate, but there’s no jobs for them( sound like France?).
      JZS,
      Taxes vs. Jobs.
      Short lesson. I assume that you would tax the rich, well the only thing that gets taxed is their income, what they have squirreled away cannot be taxed(and lets not go after the tax what they own argument, Russia did that, France did that in their revolutions). So, assuming that you don’t do the illegal and immoral thing of double taxation, the “rich” that you tax, will simply not hire anyone else to work for them. If you look at the 1930′s the tax rate on the rich was at 70-90%, and the unemployment was 25%+, why, because the rich didn’t NEED TO MAKE MONEY, they already have plenty. So, if the cost to run a business becomes to great, then they will just close shop and live on what they have. Bye, bye Microsoft, overseas you go(already happened to some extent).
      Second thing, even if they chose to stay and work, because they “felt sorry for the poor worker”(no one opens a business to hire a worker, they do it to make a living, i.e. money), all that would happen is that the tax increase that they were forced to bear would be added into the cost of making the good or service, and passed down to the end consumer. Biggest REGRESSIVE tax there is, taxing the rich business or the rich businessman.
      Not all workers call their bosses or business owners money grubbing rats. That’s the blow up figure (a rat holding bags of money with a cigar in its mouth) the teamsters use here in the Chicago area. I have liked almost all of the owners of the companies I have worked for. In response these owners are usually very generous to their employees in benefits. Most workers don’t like to see their bosses as the enemy and call them bad names. That only increases stress not only at work but will effect home life. This also will cause increased medical bills and insurance to go up. The great non union businesses I have worked for give their employees flex hours and try to work with their employees personal life like parents working with their children schedule etc. When they get tax breaks and the economy is strong causing business to be strong the owners hire more workers and can decrease insurance copays and expenses for their employees.
      This is really all about small businesses and don’t give me those distorted liberal-commie numbers on small businesses. These tax increases are all about hurting small businesses so the progressive commies can eventually put many of them out of business or have their darling big businesses and BIG corporations like BIG GE, BIG Goggle and create government controlled monopolies. It is very hard for the progressive commies to control small business and their workers but it is very easy to control their oppressive government-union owned Big corporations.
      PS: Watch as the multi layered anti American radicals have taken off their coat and have shown their socialist labels while still hiding their communist leanings behind the scenes. There is no such thing as staying at redistributive socialism when they are opposed they always become commies.
      Don‘t ya just love how the ’marxist/socialist/communists have a way with ‘words’. Invest = give a free higher education ride to illiterates. And promise them they can go on welfare when they graduate or will be given a government job. Diversity= Affirmative action-give priority to unqualified minorities based on race. (like to see a racial breakdown of Govt jobs). Diversity Officer= call any poor job evaluations for minorities a ‘hate crime’.Why do we need Diversity Officers in our military, and govt departments ? It’s a scam, to attain empowerment by a minority. EEOC= intimidate employers to hire and retain incompetents based on ‘race’.
      It‘s obvious our ’investments’ are not paying off. Their ‘vision’ is we need more free ‘stuff’ and let others pay for it. We see the waste. Govt jobs produce ‘nothing’. No capital. They just take. WELL we are sick of giving. We are sick of threats of civil unrest. Frances Piven forgets you are a minority. So when you wanna start your violence, go right ahead. Force will be met with force. Let’s get it on.
      @JVS
      You asked some questions, I will give you some answers (based on my Ivy League economics knowledge)
      First, let us look at the Bush tax cuts. The Bush tax cuts actually increased tax revenue. Do some research into what is called the Laffer Curve. This curve related the tax revenue to the tax rate, and gives reasons as well.
      Second, why does cutting taxes to the rich increase jobs? I will answer your question with another question: when was the last time a person was EVER hired by someone less rich than themselves? If you give a 10% tax break to Donald Trump, he will open a new hotel, which will employ many laborers to build the building, laborers to produce the materials, and people to actually work in the hotel. Also if you increase taxes on a company like GE, the company budget decreases which means that the money to hire labor decreases, which means that workers will either be paid less or laid off.
      And third, research economics to find a truly efficient industry where the EXACT demand is matched by the EXACT supply. It just plainly cannot happen.
      Vision! yes! Innovation! yes! Creation! yes!
      Now how does money from the government (tax money, borrowed money whatever–but we’re no talking private investment here), produce the above?
      It doesn’t. PEOPLE are innovative or creative–especially on their own thin dime.
      Doesn‘t work that way when it’s other people’s money–and here we’re discussing tax money–other people’s money –that you don’t even have to pay back!
      Come live in a socialist country to see how creative and innovative people are off the government’s money! People “innovate and create” around where the government makes the money accessible, so the “vision” part is always the government’s–and of course there are always tons of rules regulations and restrictions—to help you along with your “creativity.” End result: EXPENSIVE MEDIOCRITY, but since everyone followed all the rules, people who have never known another system think “well that just must be the reality about what we’re capable of doing.”
      Now I’m sure that Johnson means well, but I’m also sure she has never experienced the grey mediocrity of modern European socialism.
      Why can’t liberals get it? There isn’t enough revenue from the rich to tax even at 100% to cover the spending they want to do.
      Taxing everyone at 100% with this amount of spending, it would still take 5 years to get out of $14 trillion in debt. Taxing isn’t the answer and it has been proven time and time again that throwing money at the school system shows zero results.
If you are not a successful, vital, contributing part of this sociality you should not be allowed to vote. Sorry, the Founders knew that this would cause exactly these problems, which is why they had the “ownership of real property” as a voting requirement. They assumed that if you had acquired property you would have a fundamental grasp of economics, at least enough not to run the country into the ground by voting for stupid people with stupid ideas pandering to the stupid. We allowed the progressives to talk us out of this, and here we are, wanting to borrow ourselves out of debt! And borrowing no less from our enemies, there needs to be another revolution.
      The wife and I now have a running joke. Whenever we are in a store, any store, I will start by asking… “Hey Honey, do we have enough in our checking account to buy one of these?” loud enough so people can hear. She then responds… “You know we don’t, we’re broke”. To which I end with… “Ok, I’ll just do what Congress does and buy three of em”.
      The looks we get are priceless. Very few people get the joke, but some of those have started conversations over it, while others just shake their heads. However, those that shake their heads probably tell their friends or partners or whatever about these ‘two morons in the store’, and there has to be a few Democrats that hear it and suddenly have an awakening-to-reality moment that will impact their thinking. At least we pray that it does!
FDR taxed the so called rich 95% and just prolonged the depression, the money is in the middle class, but democrats get their votes by the same old class warfare line. If we got rid of some of the wasteful bureaucracies, and cut spending and got rid of some of the handouts, then there would be not need for all these taxes, just a flat 12% tax and that’s it, no IRS and put the federal reserve back into the hands of the people, and not private bankers
      Actually gang, JZS is right in basic area – tax cuts really do create deficits…if you don’t CUT programs that were once receiving those taxes!
      …unfortunately for JZS, he doesn‘t yet get the REALITY of what we’re saying,
      Until now, NO ONE would be brave enough to suggest cutting spending in order to reduce taxes – it cost them politically.
      Here – I’ll show you how it REALLY works JZS – politicians have figured out that if they take the money from those who do NOT vote for them, and then “invest” it in poor people who WILL vote for them – they never want to take the “free stuff” (i.e. government spending) away.
      See, it costs them VOTES.
      Eddie knows how to get elected, she takes from people with jobs in Virginia, Georgia, Florida, North Carolina – and then GIVES it to people in her congressional district…
      What WE THE PEOPLE (you know us…we‘re the one’s PAYING Eddie to continue to take money out of our pockets, food off of our table, and denying our rights) don’t care how many times she and BHO say the words “investment” and “vision”…we know they have no intention of stopping the outright THEFT of our hard-earned incomes.
      Sure tax cuts create deficits – so does spending money you don’t have – the answer is not to deny tax cuts, the answer is to: A) Stop taxation B) Cut programs until their aren’t anymore deficits!!
      See how that works numbskull?
      “It is a paradoxical truth that tax rates are too high and tax revenues are too low and the soundest way to raise the revenues in the long run is to cut the rates now … Cutting taxes now is not to incur a budget deficit, but to achieve the more prosperous, expanding economy which can bring a budget surplus.”
      – John F. Kennedy, Nov. 20, 1962, president’s news conference
      “Lower rates of taxation will stimulate economic activity and so raise the levels of personal and corporate income as to yield within a few years an increased – not a reduced – flow of revenues to the federal government.”
      “Look at the Bush tax cuts. Did the unemployment rate go down? Answer: No. Look it up. Were jobs created? Answer: No, job creation increased, yes, but less than the increase in population. And, of course, the economy crashed in last year of his Presidency into the worst economic calamity since the Great Depression.”
      _________________________________________________________________
      Well, JZS, if I were that person that made money and then received a tax break I would start another business that created different widgets. The trouble is, I look at what my return is in the US with all the beauracracy, taxes, etc. and see that I can make even more money building my factory overseas so that is what I do. Then I compare what that company is doing to what my original company in the US is doing and find that the overseas company has a much better bottom line because it isn’t taxes as much or spending huge amounts to keep up with all the red tape created by the American government so I move that operation overseas as well.
      The jobs were created; just in a different country because yahoos, like you, want to tax everything a person makes, then distribute evenly. You also want so many regulations, many of wich are unnecessary, that a company spends a large percentage of revenue on keeping up with all the government rules, regulations, etc.
      And does throwing more money at a problem, like our government did with the bailouts, help to turn the economy around? No. So what is your point JZS? Obama’s spending spree has done very little to create jobs but has done a great deal to burden my children with a great deal more debt. That debt will be a weight around their neck their whole lives.
      To JZS
      April 13, last paragraph.
      I hate to break it to you, but deficits are caused by spending more than you have. If you don’t have it you don’t spend it. The problem is politicians don’t know how to live within their means (which they get from us taxpayers). They don’t know how to cut spending only how to raise taxes. OK, so we raise taxes and spend some more, then we cut defense to zero and spend that money, then spend some more and raise more taxes. When does it end?
      Oh that’s right, it’s other people’s money, so there’s always going to be enough. I guess I was wrong.
      I have another term for you: unfunded liability
      If the national debt figure doesn’t grab you maybe adding up all the unfunded liability at the local, state and federal level will get through. Or you can choose to ignore it. I know you’ll tax that away too. Problem solved. Not.
      “Why does anyone believe that cutting taxes for the rich produces jobs? Someone explain that to me please”
      Although I disagree with everything you say, I think your probably a decent, honest man. Your side has the same employment info my side has yet we come to different conclusions. Ask yourself these questions.
      Do I have a better chance of getting a job if my employer has A) more money to spend B) less money to spend.
      Do I have a better chance of getting a raise if my employer has A) more money to spend B) less money to spend.
      Do I have a better chance of KEEPING my job if my employer has A) more money to spend B) less money to spend.
      What in the heck is she talking about? Jobs leaving the US because we got our fiscal house in order? Or is it that we will lose all those redundant Federal jobs that need to go anyway. I got news for her, if we can get our economy back on track, there will be plenty of private sector jobs available when those in porky positions lose their part time jobs and get a real one =)
      There are always too many Democratic congressmen, too many Republican congressmen, and never enough U.S. Congressmen. ~ Author Unknown
      that‘s what’s already been done, tax, tax, tax – and let the unions be in charge of our education system – now you see the results – we are way down from the top of the educated list.
