Netanyahu’s Passionate Speech to Congress: No ‘67 Borders & Jerusalem Won’t be Divided

WASHINGTON (AP) — Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu pledged Tuesday to make “painful compromises” for peace with the Palestinians but said he would not agree to any deal that threatens Israel’s security or its identity as a Jewish state.
Speaking before a wildly receptive joint meeting of Congress that showered him with more than two dozen sustained standing ovations, Netanyahu said Israel wants and needs peace but repeated his flat rejection of a return to what he called the “indefensible” borders that existed before the 1967 Mideast war. He also restated Israel’s refusal to entertain the return of millions of Palestinian refugees and their families to land in Israel. And, he maintained that Jerusalem, claimed by both sides as their capital, could not be divided.
“Israel will never give up its quest for peace,” Netanyahu said, adding that he is “willing to make painful compromises to achieve this historic peace.”
But he said Israel would not negotiate with terrorists and urged Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas to rip up a power-sharing agreement that his moderate Fatah faction has signed with the militant group Hamas, which does not recognize Israel’s right to exist.
“We must take calls for our destruction seriously,” Netanyahu said, recalling the Holocaust and the absolute imperative not to allow the Jewish people to suffer new massacres. “When we say ‘never again, we mean ‘never again,’ ” he said.
Israel, which enjoys strong bipartisan backing in Congress, has been rattled by President Barack Obama‘s support for drawing the future borders of a Palestinian state and a Jewish state on the basis of Israel’s pre-1967 war frontiers. Obama has also called for a full Israeli withdrawal from the West Bank, something that Netanyahu said is possible only in the very long term.
Obama has not called for a return to the exact borders that Israel held before capturing east Jerusalem, the West Bank and Gaza Strip in the Six-Day War of June 1967. He, like the Palestinians, is open to land swaps so Israel can hold on to settlements it built after the 1967 war. Obama has not, however, offered proposals for how to return the two sides to the bargaining table. The Palestinians are refusing to come back as long as Israeli settlement construction continues.
Netanyahu congratulated the United States for killing al Qaida leader Osama bin Laden, wishing him “good riddance” and making the case that America and Israel are paragons of democracy. Netanyahu dismissed early shouts from a female protester as evidence that freedom of speech is alive and well in the United States and is respected in both countries, while it is punished in Arab states now going through upheaval.
He also repeatedly thanked Congress for its support of Israel, which he said supports true democracy throughout the Middle East and wants peace with its Arab neighbors.

Posted on May 24, 2011 at 1:46pmDon’t get me wrong on what I am about to say. I fully support Israel, and am very bothered by Obama‘s speech and I don’t believe that Israel should give up their land. But, it seems as if all of the discussion is a little lopsided.
For example, I haven’t really seen any discussion as of yet about how the Israelis are treating the Palestinians. I thought that most of the violence was from the Palestinians towards the Israelis, but from the limited research that I have done it seems to be somewhat the opposite. Two of the articles that I have found that discuss this are below:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Israeli%E2%80%93Palestinian_conflict#Events_since_December_2009
http://mondoweiss.net/2010/09/take-a-look-at-this-list-of-settler-initiated-crimes-against-palestinians-in-the-last-few-weeks.html
So it seems to me that the Israelis aren’t any more intent on peace than the Palestinians. So my question to everyone is this. First, in light of this information how will the violence from the Israelis or Palestinians decrease if the borders are placed back at 1967 lines? And secondly, if the Israelis are so intent on peace then why is there so much violence committed by them?
I am kind of confused about exactly what is going on given the information (or lack there of) that is provided by our media and I would like a better understanding/explanation of what both sides of the coin really are. It seems to me that peace is not really desired by either side. What do y

For Israel to be a secure nation, it must not bow to feel good rhetoric and Arab animas. There is nothing but annihilation for a homeless Israel in the midst of their enemies — it’s a death sentence and those who call for the Jews to leave Israel should acknowledge what they are asking for in reality.
Don’t the 3 major religions all believe in the God of Abraham? God himslef gave the land to the Jews thousands of years ago. Where is the Jew’s “right of return?”
Groups like Code Pink need to have some intellectual honesty. Instead of building flotillas to terrorize Israel, groups like Code Pink should send boats to take the Jews to safety once they steal the land “back” for the Muslims. –”anti-war“ groups finally understands ”peace” — someone has to surrender.

The Geneva convention said a country could no longer gain land from ‘offensive’ war but could if it was a defensive war. Jordan took control of the West Bank through offensive war thus making Jordan an occupier not a sovereignty. The West Bank is ‘disputed’ territory now since Israel got it through a war of aggression by Jordan ‘against’ Israel. There is no sovereignty in the West Bank so anyone has the legal right to build there.
In the true sense the West Bank is LIBERATED, not “occupied” !!!!!!!!!!

Of course, neither Fatah nor Hamas will recognize Israel as a Jewish State. The 1967 border is a deal-breaker anyway, as is a shared Jerusalem. Judea and Samaria will be annexed — there really is no alternative — and the Fake “Palestinians” residing in the West Bank will be repatriated to Jordan, or given the option of relocating to Gaza where they can indulge their fantasy of building a viable state.

Yes, Jordan lost land–which more than 40 years later is still inhabited by several million stateless Arabs who do not consider themselves Jordanian, Lebanese, or Syrian or anything but “Palestinian.”
Agsinst that, there are about 300,000 Jewish settlers. Why do their claims override those of the Palestinians? Even most of Netenyahu‘s backers don’t expect Israel to be able to keep the whole West Bank. Face those facts.

Report Post »Make that “moving people from their homes to make the West Bank (“Judaea and Samaria” if you prefer) purely Jewish.” I know it’s complicated! I understand that many of the Palestinians’ ancestors were attracted into Palestine only in the early 20th century, when Jewish settlement created business and employment opportunities for them. Some Palestinian families, on the other hand, have lived there since who knows when? I understand also that the Palestinian leadership will have to get a grip, renounce terrorism and accept Israel’s right to exist for there to be peace. In return I would like the Israelis at some point to state plainly exactly where they think their borders should run. Then maybe there can be realistic talks. But removing people from their homes is a bad idea, be they Jew or Arab.

At the United Nations partition vote in 1947, statehood was offered to each of the Jews (the true Palestinians) and the assorted Arabs living within the Mandate (the ersatz “Palestinians”). The Jews accepted. The Arabs did not. They chose to go to war instead …. they didn‘t THINK they’d lose — a sentiment shared by every country in the world — but lose they did. Tough. Certain decisions are irrevocable, and the Arabs have to live with the consequences of the decisions they have made; no matter how adverse the consequences.
There have been six wars — all started by the Arabs — and seven decades of unrelenting Arab terror. How many bites at the apple do you think the ersatz “Palestinians” should have? How many wars does Israel have to win before the ersatz “Palestinians” understand that they are a vanquished people?
Report Post »American Saint
Posted on May 24, 2011 at 4:06pmSo the question that you asked was, “What should become of the Arabs who live there?”. For me that is an easy answer. They need to be absorbed by an Arab nation. You obviously do not agree with that and think they should remain where they are today. Nothing I say will convince you otherwise and it’s not my job to convince you. The Jewish state is surrounded by Arab nations that do not recognize them and also want them exterminated completely. That’s called genocide. That in itself, no matter what nation, should never happen. I am not a big fan of Iran but I do not for one second think that they should be exterminated from existing. So there is no answer to your question that you will accept. You have an Anti-Semitic view and I suppose you live in America which grants you that right to openly express it. I am fine with that. I happen to disagree with you and can type pages trying to explain another point of view but no it would be pointless.
I have 2 questions for you though. What should become of the Arabs that live there? Do you also think that the US should return our land to pre 1776 borders?

Posted on May 24, 2011 at 4:59pmI’m glad we can agree to disagree–Palestinians and Israelis don’t have the luxury, and, as Netenhayu said so eloquently, his people won’t get a second chance. I can’t see either an all-Jewish or an all-Arab Palestine. The Jews have earned the right to live within the 1967 borders. After all that’s happened, their security demands even more than that. The Arabs have been even less well-served by their leaders than by the Israelis, but they have the right to live there too. Wholesale ethnic cleansing is something that Jews of all people should never contemplate, and Netenyahu himself has acknowledged that some of the settlements will have to be given up.
We would not even be having this discussion if Obama last week had not said two words: “1967” and “Palestine.” But the substance of what he said was no different from what every American president since the 1970s has said, that the goal should be a two-state solution, “existential” and security guarantees for the Israelis, and compensation for what the Palestinians have lost, if not a full right of return.

Remember ISLAM calls for the destruction of the Jews and Infidels. I wish you said that, after all, Muslims PRAY every day from the JEWISH TEMPLE MOUNT for the destruction of the Jewish People.
You stated truthfully that Judea and Samaria contains the heart of the ancient Jewish homeland. This confirms what Yasser Arafat said, “there are NO Palestinians, just Arabs”. What country gives up part of their homeland to a FAKE people whose name is invented to destroy your own history?
Why didn‘t you pull out the Balfour and San Remo agreement and educate us about our MODERN ISRAEL’S LEGAL rights, bible notwithstanding, to Eretz Yisrael? After all, nobody is calling for the dismemberment of Iraq, Lebanon, Syria and Saudi Arabia which were created after WWI, along with “Palestine” — renamed by the Romans to erase Jewish history from our homeland
This ground breaking Israel National Radio interview http://www.marcrubin.com/judean-eve.ivnu lays bare the history of the ancient world, and how everybody followed “the laws” except for the “bad seed” — which Islam is merely a 1,400 year incarnation.
History goes back much further than 4,000 years. We now have the tools to reassemble the actual history of the world. Without understanding this history, I don’t see how Israel (or the Free World) can come together.

The traitor-in-chief is a liar and a wimp and Un-American! America doesn’t trust or respect the pseudo-potus and Israel shouldn’t either. You And Israel Stand Firm, Mr Netanyahu! America Stands With You!

Posted on May 24, 2011 at 2:32pmDon’t knock the standing ovations. The Prime Minister got the message that Obama is not speaking for the Congress, just himself.
The President is busy trying to carry out his father’s dream of reducing the U.S. (and Europe) to the level of third-world nations so everybody is the same. If he gets his wish, the next time there is a natural disaster or war, there won’t by any C-130′s or US. Navy ships riding to the rescue. It will be just AYOYO (adios, your on your own).

Posted on May 24, 2011 at 3:20pmAn email expressing America’s support of Israel, inspite of what the traitor-in-chief is saying, can be sent to Mr Netanyahu via the Prime Minister’s Office website. I’d post the url here; but, if I did I’d be deleted by TheBlaze. It’s easy enough to find on-line by typing in “Benjamin Netanyahu.”

Posted on May 24, 2011 at 4:52pmwe sure could use BIBI as our president. If Obama Bin Lyin can fake birth cirtificate, we can get one for BIBI too. I would give him dual citizenship and make him the PM of Israel and the President here. this guy is strong enough to to take it on too. LOL
seirously though, BIBI is a super dude and Most of our politicians could very well take lessons form him on statesmanship. It kind of makes me wish I was Israeli instead of American.

Posted on May 24, 2011 at 6:52pmI so wish Netanyahu was our President. I am so proud of his comments. I sat and watched the entire speech today. Hallelujah. He was very clear to Obama and to Americans in response to Obama’s speech. I can imagine Obama turning beet-red and spitting mad because he was just made out to be an idiot in front of his own Congress and in front of the American people. Did you know that followers of Christ, or Christians (true Christians) were grafted into the Hebrew tree of ancestry after Jesus died on the cross? Christians are Jewish now, so if you are a Christian and you are against Israel, then you are NOT a follower of Christ afterall, are you? Jesus was Jewish. Here’s your sign.

Report Post »I do believe that Ron Paul is the closest Statesman that America will ever have again. The remainder of politicians just follow along and say what we want to hear. Ron Paul’s heart is in the right place. His head is in the right place. He is a man after God’s own heart. I really believe this. I hope he becomes our next President. I know I will be supporting him with lotsa cash and any other help I can give him here where I live. I will give my last dime to Ron Paul’s campaign. I will work tirelessly ON AND ON AND ON JUST SO OBAMA DOES NOT WIN IN 2012.

Posted on May 25, 2011 at 8:33amExactly! This was a heart warming speech that said it all. I kept saying “why can’t we get a President who has as much passion, who loves America, who believes in America? Instead we have a man who goes around degrading our Country to others. Thank God for Bibi and Israel.

Posted on May 27, 2011 at 3:23pmBEWARE: Israel’s P.M. Netanyahu’s speech to Congress was excellent in many ways. He rightly described the “epic battle” underway in the epicenter. He described a great shaking going on in the Middle East. He rightly warned that Iran and her nuclear program is the greatest threat, that Hamas is the new al Qaeda, and that in all of the Arab world, only Israeli Arabs have true safety, security, and fully protected human and civil rights.
However, it should be noted that Netanyahu never cited the Bible, never called on the name of the Lord, and never called the Jewish people to trust fully and completely in the God of Israel, but rather promised to divide the land of Israel as a concession to the Palestinians, even while promising never to divide Jerusalem. These were mistakes. He wasn’t the first Israeli Prime Minister to make them. But he is making them nonetheless. He was right to thank the U.S. for all our help and support of Israel over the years, and he was right to seek continued help and support from the American people and government. But neither he nor Israel should become dependent upon American help because the Bible tells us it won’t be there for long.
