‘Neuter That Regime’: Sen. Graham Stuns Audience With Iran Attack Scenario

The Canadian Press:

A U.S. lawmaker sent ripples through an international audience Saturday saying his country should be prepared to launch a military attack on Iran that would “neuter” the hard line regime.

But Defence Minister Peter MacKay, who was in attendance, said a military attack on Iran would have negative fallout, and that international sanctions are preferable.

Republican Sen. Lindsey Graham of South Carolina said Saturday his party would support military action against Iran that would destroy its ability to fight back while allowing its people to rise up.

Graham surprised attendees at the Halifax International Security Forum with his hawkish rhetoric, saying an attack could cripple Iran’s nuclear program as well as its armed forces.

The Jerusalem Post:

A leading US senator on defense issues said Saturday any military strike on Iran to stop its nuclear program must also strive to take out Iran’s military capability.

Sen. Lindsey Graham, a South Carolina Republican who sits on the Armed Services Committee and the Homeland Security Committee, said the US shouldn‘t just consider a surgical strike on Iran’s nuclear infrastructure.

“My view of military force would be not to just neutralize their nuclear program, which are probably dispersed and hardened, but to sink their navy, destroy their air force and deliver a decisive blow to the Revolutionary Guard.

“In other words, neuter that regime,” added Graham, who spoke at the Halifax International Security Forum.

I realy don’t know how an American hero like Glenn Beck puts up with planet of the apes types like most of the people posting here (and also Graham). Yeah, I’m sure you people want less governmen except when it comes to killing off the rest of the world, then it’s spend, spend, spend. Let Israel take care of Iran, they are perfectly capable. If Iran keeps on threating to wipe Israel off the map, I don’t think we will have to do anything to Iran. I have heard that when our cadets train on war strategy–they look at everybody‘s battles except Israel’s. Israel’s battles and the outcomes are just too unbelievable to study.
And as for Lindsey I can’t remember when I have EVER agreeded with him……..normally his position is wrong and his timing just makes you shake you hear and roll your eyes!

The American people should not wait or prolong the next step. All those who were not up for re election this last week, we need to start issuing recalls. They ALL need to clearly understand that we are not going back to sleep, and that they are not going to go back to their little games.
If we leave any of them in, they will poison the water. That is a fact. They’ll just wait untill they detect Americans, nodding off, during the warm fuzzy elavator music time, between floors.

If you think they were not watching this, way at the beging of the formation of the Tea Party formation, you had better think again…they were definitely watching and listinening from day one.
They were banking on past performance of Americans to tire out or run out of steam. Only this time they got a little suprise.

Iran is already at war with us. They are just using the taliban and bin ladin’s bunch as proxies. We need to seriously follow Israel’s example. Remember bush’s shock and awe. Which was more like bored and drooling. We need to unleash the full wrath of our armed forces. Unleash an air attack that makes pearl harbor look like childs play. One that with that first blow renders Iran incapable of responding. We have the ability. we need to use it.

What a masterful gambit by the republicans. Place a sitting US Senator in a foriegn hypothetical discussion forum and float a overthrow scenario while Obama is out of country. Throw in another US Senator to float the greater sanctions options and you have a faux diplomatic shot across the bow of the Iranian regime. President will not be back in country for days giving the salvo plenty of time to be analyzed by the Imans. Suddenly hardened nuke sites seem irrelevant…regime change raised the ante to an all or nothing play. All without an actual shot being fired. Big stick diplomacy at its best.

I know noone likes the talk of fighting someone else over there, but this would be a fight to make the hole region safer. Unlike Afganastan and Pakistan, we are fighting small groups and their governments are not supporting us. Seems to me that the threat of nuclear weapons is more a threat to us and the rest of the world than a few terroist groups but then again we need to keep them at bay because if Iran gets their nuclear weapons they might give them to the terroist. And then everyone is at risk. So I agree with Senator Graham.

There is a reason that our National Guard is halfway around the world. We forget that it is not a regular army we talk about…it is our National Guard. It used to be that the governors of the state could/would call up the National Guard to provide defense and security in our own country. A number of years ago the POTUS took control of the National Guard and that leaves us defenseless at home. Thru NATO our National Guard aka military serving in Iraq and Afganistan, are in service to the United Nations. Do not doubt that in the case of an emergency should Obama feel the “need” to call up a national guard that he would not invite an occupying army of blue hats (aka UN army) into our country.

He gives consessions to Russia while Russia arms our enemies. We are giving up access to the space station planning on using Russia to get there when we want to go (????) This is insanity. When will Congress wake up to the fact that Obama is setting us up for destruction. He has abandoned our defenses…. and he goes prancing around the world, while his wife dances…. and we are jobless. The elite world leaders already decide which wars will be fought and who wins. They already decide which nations will be prosperous and which won’t. They have been for some time now been depleting the US of industry and good jobs. The pace has quickened lately because they see the RIGHT MOMENT is approaching SOON.

Obama is meeting with his future “sub-rulers” over in Asia right now.

The countries we must look at are Iran and Pakistan. Take one out with “Shock and Awe” and the other will fall in line. We are funding Pakistan, and they turn around and fund the terrorists who are camped out on the boarders. Russia on the other hand asks for concessions from us and Obama politely gives them what ever they want- then Russia turns around and funds Iran (along with weapon grade plutonium). Yeah, this is an over-simplification & it’s a sticky situation- but if we don’t do something- we are sitting ducks. The POTUS has to grow a backbone and stand up for THIS country!!

…allow its people to rise up… Yeah, that worked out real well in Iraq and Afganistan. Don‘t know how we were able to suceed there without the people’s support!! NOT.

If and when we finish our current Mid-East operations, we need to bring our military home and build them up bigger and stronger than they are now because the only way we are going to effectively deal with their threat to the U.S. is to take on the entire Mid-East at one time. It will end up being as close to a third world war as possible. And we will never be big enough to do that alone (not as long as they still have oil).

Furthermore, if Soros and the other one-worlders get their way, Islamic law will spread over much of the world. Kiss any form of freedom and happiness good-bye.

RINOS cannot survive in a nation of citizens that understand that FREEDOM RESULTS IN PROSPERITY AND THAT TYRANNY IS THE ROOT OF POVERTY AND DESPAIR. Mr.Graham’s action proves that he understands his peril. RINOS like Senator Graham are more of a danger to the American Revolution than the admitted tyrants like Obama.

We the people will not yield to the tyranny of King George III even under “new management.”

i very seldom post, for a variety of reasons, but i felt compelled to second your sentiment.if we don’t effect a “regime” change at home,we are on a fast track to BECOME one of those regimes.the elections were a decent start, but we have a long way to go before the entrenched political machines are dislodged.IMHO,pres.erkel is just a spokesman doing what he is told to do.does anyone else ever wonder who’s on the other end of that blackberry?i guess that’s a topic for another show.
      back to regime change-
as a veteran,i am apalled, disgusted and pissed to the MAX at the position our combat troops have been put in.not since alexander the great has “the stan” been conquered or controlled in any manner.of course, alexander wasn‘t hamstrung by insane ROE’s.bush’s rules were bad enough, but erkel‘s ROE’s would cripple your local police dept.hell,i‘m surprised they’re allowed to carry loaded weapons
our troops are not cops or diplomats.their job is to KILL the enemy.erkel and his handlers don’t have the balls to identify the enemy, let alone kill them.as one of my heroes and newly elected congressman Col.Allen West says-”until we stop looking at that part of the world through western colored glasses,we’ll never be able to implement a winning strategy.”he has seen the enemy and knows they only understand two things-strength and weakness.lopping off heads is strength, diplomacy is weakness.
until we are willing to accept and address hard truths and respond accordingly,IMHO,talk of another “regime” change is just plain crazy.

Much as I despise Iran and what they stand for, I MUST hesitate against nuking Iran. However, I DO believe they wouldn’t hesitate to do so against us. It has been VERY obvious that Iran has shown no regard to nuclear proliferation and has every intent on arming themselves with nuclear weapons during a period of history when the world has been trying to disarm themselves of such. Shoud OVERWHELMING evidence of nuclear weapons or their creation be evident, then their intent is obvious and a STRONG military strike, a multi-nation strike, should ensue.

Advocating launching attacks on countries that have not attacked us first is not “on our side”. That is the mark of every despotic nation in history. Pre-emptive strikes are not the domain of any honorable people.

The fact is that our budget is out of control, we’re already saddled with more debt than any nation in history, and we can ill afford any more military adventurism, hell we can‘t even afford what we’re doing now. Bring our boys back home and put them in place defending our borders and our traditions here, as they should have been doing from the beginning. This lust for war is a very new Republican trait and one that we have to keep ourselves from adopting wholesale. We should always be a nation of entangling alliances with none, peaceful trade with all. That’s what the Founders envisioned at a time when nations routinely went to war almost “just for fun” and the world was a very dark and dangerous place, and it’s what I uphold as well.

The Neocon injection into the Republican party is when the war mongering started. Neocons are warfare minded liberals folks. They couldn’t find a home in the Democratic party so they slithered into the Republican party. Reject these anti-American Trotskyites once and for all, and stop participating in their calls for blood. Please people, think about it rationally.

Oh how this nation has fallen. On the left we have socialist who are willing to sacrifice every freedom and right for an illusion of security (Obama Care, Cap and Trade, bailouts and stimulus). Then on the right we have the same thing, only in different ways. (Patriot Act, TARP) Sacrificing our freedoms for supposed security, and spending not only our children’s future, but our own also. Now some of you here are of the illusion that going to war with Iran is a good thing? They are no threat to us, but you would have us send out children to kill their children when they are no threat to our safety, our security. As for Israel, Iran knows very well that should they launch one nuke at them, Israel can respond with hundred or even thousands of nukes. Israel is a greater threat to Iran, thanks to America, than Iran could ever be to Israel. Then some of you pathetic people think it would be a one week war!? Are your memories so short you can’t even remember where we are today? How long have we been in Iraq, Afghanistan? How many thousands of our sons and daughters have fallen in these foreign lands that should have fallen in a week? Most here claim to love the Constitution, our forefathers. I tell you their is no support in the Constitution for this and our forefathers would be just as sickened as I, if not more at what we are doing.

1 – Don’t make statements like that unless you are ready to go and do it.

2 – If you agree with that let Israel make the first move then support them and their efforts as allies.

Actually Lindsey, I’d prefer you “neuter” the Obama regime before you go throwing smack like that around. Start by helping America and it’s problems before we go and take on other wars. We have bigger fish to fry Lindsey.

This really shouldn’t come as a surprise to anybody who follows foreign policy.

The United States has been actively pursuing War with Iran for several years now, albeit through covert means. It’s well known among followers of US foreign policy that the CIA has been supporting terrorist dissident groups WITHIN Iran, most notably, one called Jundallah. Jundallah literally meaning Soldiers of Allah‎, though also known as People’s Resistance Movement of Iran (PRMI).

In fact, the word on the Grapevine is that the Obama Administration has been planning some sort of military action against Iran for just right now. This is supported by the fact that the US & Israel gave Saudi Arabia & Egypt the greenlight for their first ever joint military excercises against Iran late last month.

We have gas pipelines and oil to secure. We have surrounded Iran all sides. This makes total & complete sense. Nobody should be surprised.

What you can do is very different from what you should do. All those international students at USC, MIT etc have gone home with knowledge and you cannot stop knowledge. The knowledge with enough money can create ANYTHING we have. As oil gets more and more expensive I suspect more and more countries will switch to the only GREEN 24/7 energy source. Most will be our friends, a few will be anti-American and may use nuke power as a ruse to create weapons. Pakistan has nukes and is hiding Osama. They throw us a few scrapes every once in a while and the cash pipeline keeps flowing. All the 9/11 bad boys were Saudi, Saudi pours $$$ to Osama. The entire US military, CIA, a trillion dollars spent and 2 countries invaded and we can’t locate a few hundred Satan spawn living in caves? Despite that, this ass wants to go to war for a week? Please name me a war that did not need ground troops? Please STOP. Do we want US troops in 3 countries ?..this has taken longer than WWII and still is not over. I have read my US Constitution and it says ”
Congress shall have power to … declare War”. Please NO more police actions, no more congressional ok for “ military action”…declare war, in bright sunlight with the Constitutional requirements. No more Korea’s, NO more Vietnams, NO more Gulf War 1, Gulf War 2…declare WAR or shut the hell up. Yes we CAN blow up a lot of stuff in a week, no doubt, we have been blowing stuff up for 8 years and killed thousands and have lost thousands. Does anybody ever say WHY? Playing Wack-A-Mole with the excellent men and women of our military must STOP. Walk softly, carry a big stick.

Captain77, well said. But the sad truth is that the US has been an imperial power for a long time. The US has been a less agressive one that Britain or Spain before that, but we project spheres of influence around the world and have been willing to preemptively invade all the time. It wasn’t just Bush in Iraq post 9/11, it was Clinton in Kosovo and Somalia, Reagan in Grenada, Nicaragua and Beiruit (before he turned tail). This is the problem with BOTH parties’ lust for military power, and it is explained by the public’s willingness to unquestioningly stand behind its government on these foreign escapades. Those that protested the war in Vietnam were roundly rebuked. Ayers is called a terrorist, while a US government that projects military power to defend interests abroad that have nothing to do with our freedoms or security at home is referred to as the greatest country in the history of mankind. This is total nonsense. Saddam Hussein, Mao Tse Tung, and many other dictators have manipulated their people with perpetual war. But that strategy works on all human beings, given our nature, and it works on Americans too. If you want to stop draining the Treasury on unnecessary wars, then you ought to stop waiving the US flag so proudly and then, alternately, pretending as though a country with 10,000 nuclear warheads and an annual defense budget multiples larger than the rest of the world combined is really at risk at all. Aggressively attack anyone who calls for military action anywhere. Our threats are not military. They are fiscal. And they cannot be fixed by neutering Iran. Iran is a threat to Israel, so let Israel solve that problem. If Americans worry about Israel, then buy a gun and move to a Kibbutz or send checks to that country’s government to support the war effort (like many Irish did during the conflict in Northern Ireland). Israel’s interests are not aligned with our, and we have no business attacking another middle east country preemptively. History will not judge the US kindly for all of this aggressive action over the last 50 years.

      @2
What he said makes him a rino. Read history. This is how the republicrats pull you away from liberty. War.
Its hard for me to understand how so many on this site can agree with such lunacy as another war.
Graham and what he said is more dangerous to Liberty then anything the nuts on the openly left have done over the past 2 years.

Its hard for me to feel optimistic when those who supposedly have been waking up refuse to give up their empirical talk.

      “It is our turn.
      Our turn to do what?
Our turn to assume the responsibilities of moral leadership in the world.
Our turn to maintain a balance of power against the forces of evil everywhere — in Europe and Asia and Africa, in the Atlantic and in the Pacific, by air and by sea — evil in this case being the Russian barbarian.
Our turn to keep the peace of the world.
      Our turn to save civilization.
      Our turn to serve mankind.
But this is the language of Empire. The Roman Empire never doubted that it was the defender of civilization. Its good intentions were peace, law and order. The Spanish Empire added salvation. The British Empire added the noble myth of the white man’s burden. We have added freedom and democracy. Yet the more that may be added to it the more it is the same language still. A language of power.”

Why is it that our government always wants to go to war? We can’t afford to go have one more war. Helloooo Senator Graham. Your new chum President Obama has really no clue when it comes to war. You boys up in Washington have no problem sending our men and women to wars while you sit in your comfortable congressional seats thinking you know how to run a war. You have no clue because if you did we would have already won them. These past and present wars have absolutely no meaning and will make no difference for our country except sending our soldiers on suicide missions. Remember Vietam? When 9/11 happened you can’t tell me that our special forces could not go in and get the job done in a reasonable amount of time? Of course they could but you just needed to drag it out much much longer than necessary. I believe this war is just another diversion for you progressives to get other agenda passed us. If you really wanted to stop Iran, you all ( the UN) could have easily done so by simply and completely shunning Iran economically/ politically and any country that was in “business” with them. Why has the UN allowed Iran’s leader to come to the US and be so insulting? Really. Why are we giving billions to Pakistan? They are soooo taking us for a ride. Why are other countries (our allies for example) tolerating Iran’s type of behavior?

Something so doesn’t smell right. Either way Senator Graham, South Carolina has your political days numbered. I seriously doubt you will be re-elected when the time comes. Shame you decided to become co-opted. You should have stayed on the Jim Demint platform. Don’t even think about running for POTUS. You‘d be wasting the GOP’s money.

DOCVET, the difference with Iran is that the vast majority of their people want their extemist Iatolah regime gone, so that they may succeed in life without interference. remove their obsticle and thes folk will rise up and get control. That being said, I think Lidsay Graham has a picked-on-lil-boy’s mentality, that since he now has power he wants to make the military kick someone’s ass. South Carolina, get him the hell outta Dodge when he is up.
THAT being said, the best policy is for America to make a secret deal with Israel, that when they feel the need to take defensive action of any kind against Iran we will have their back in the form of 3-5 carrier battle groups if their mission in any way results in retalliatory action from Iran. Could this turn into a poop-storm? Yes, obviously. But if they succeed, like I think they would, then all is well. Either way, Iran needs to be “taken behind the woodshed” for it’s arrogance that it should be allowed to advance its nuclear option. And Israel has her right as a sovereign nation to defend herself.
