New Chinese Video Game Allows Players to Shoot American Soldiers

The largely-unspoken, and uneasy, tension between the United States and China may have just gotten a little more apparent. A new video game sponsored the People’s Liberation Army (PLA) now allows players to target and shoot American commandos.
Wired.com reports the new game, “Glorious Mission,” was developed by China’s Giant Network Technology Co. It sends “soldiers’ off to basic training and then sets them out on various missions. For the most part, it’s modeled after many American-made shooting games. But the comparisons may end at the graphics once you read this:
But there’s one key difference between the American and Chinese “shooters.” Where the bad guys in America’s Army are generic Middle Eastern or Central Asian insurgents and terrorists, the enemy in Glorious Mission is apparently the U.S. military. A TV report offers glimpses of an American-made Apache gunship crashing in flames.
There’s another big difference. America’s Army [an American-made game] has been criticized for having a subtle, propagandistic effect on young players. In Glorious Mission, the politics are anything but subtle. Following training and combat, the game’s third stage recreates the “fiery political atmosphere of camp life,” according to one Chinese-language news report.
You can see some of the images from the game below, which was featured on a Chinese news report:

Who do you think came up with the art of warfare. The chinese did, and they are very good at it! So you go right ahead and play your games, but if the possibility of them coming here to overthrow our country, I garentee you won‘t won’t think it’s game any longer!

Posted on May 18, 2011 at 12:17pmOh yea, games that simulate warfare. For years america has done the same thing and the public has no problem with it, until some other country is doing the same, only we are the bad guy? If you really think about it, not only does this chinese video game has us as the bad guy, but if they so wish to engage the US in real war, america does have a disadvantage.
Report Post »Here, we have a generation of lazy, good for nothing children and people playing these games in thier homes, having fun, laughing, joking around and what not, then you have the chinese, that are not only doing the same thing, only they are not as lazy as the american public. Their children train from adeloscents in kung-fu or various martial arts, well trained, disciplined and focused, having no qualms about coming here to kick our butts back into the middle of the dark ages, all because the american public is too pathetic to understand thier notions of warfare. They take warfare vary seriously, and we still think it’s just a pathetic game!

Anyways, this is training directed at the military not teen gamers like in the US! If you go to China its filled with Chinese, look at the room, its filled with Chinese (Asians) no diversity whatsoever. How do you make a game about the enemy being US soldiers but make those soldiers as diverse as they actually are, our Army is very heavy on the African American side, with Latinos and yes Asians on the rise in all services. No! The target is obviously White Anglos! Makes it easier when they really have to do the real shootin.

They do that with most technology so i don‘t see why they’d get all ambitious about video game development.

Posted on May 18, 2011 at 4:36pmthere is a big freaking difference between calling targets back in the day “ivans” to the chinese military today sponsoring a game that features open warfare against the United States of America. For one thing, we were in direct competition with Russia in a Cold War. Today we are business partners to, and openly trade with China. They even hold a large chunk of our debt.
This game is a disgrace and an insult from the Chinese military directed at us. This is also vile propaganda to remind the youth of china exactly who the “enemy” will be when they are old enough to carry a gun.
I will also note that there is no comparison to the very dry and bland game Americas Army. That game was extremely realistic and offered no thrills, just getting shut at. You spent half of the game in the prone position hoping you would not get shot and the other half having to un-jam your m-16 rifle. This chinese made game looks like a propaganda filled cinematic shooter more akin to Call of Duty: Modern Warfare, a privately developed and published game in the US.

Posted on May 18, 2011 at 4:51pmThe Los Angeles Times reports that MGM, producers of a remake of the 1984 kids vs. Soviet Union film “Red Dawn,” have changed the enemy of their movie from the Chinese to the North Koreans.
The Times reports that MGM originally filmed their new movie with invading Chinese troops — complete with military insignia, uniforms and propaganda — pitted against rebelling Americans, led by “Thor” star (and Australian) Chris Hemsworth. In the original, Patrick Swayze and Charlie Sheen lead a rebellion against cruel, randomly slaughtering Russians.
Then, word of the film, along with some stills, made their way to a Chinese newspaper and website, and a backlash began. DailyFinance.com reported in June that the film drew heavy criticism from the country’s largest paper, the state run Global Times, who ran two editorials, titled, “U.S. reshoots Cold War movie to demonize China“ and ”American movie plants hostile seeds against China.”
The Chinese were nervous, and outraged, at scenes depicted the Chinese as evil occupiers of the United States, who in the film depict themselves as economic saviors through brute force. Thanks to both financing issues at MGM — the film declared bankruptcy in the fall — and the political considerations, the film was delayed.
With the Chinese box office meaning $1.5 billion in profit to American filmmakers per year, MGM made the decision to change the film.

America’s Army is the most realistic in terms of getting shot and actually BLEEDING and being disabled to a degree, Call Of Duty and all those games are nowhere near as realistic, they look better, but are more arcade.
You aren‘t supposed to run around like you’re unconcerned with being shot.
One thing I had a problem with America’s Army is the Punkbuster Anticheat system, which basically violates all of your privacy by scanning your entire computer memory and being able to upload files directly from your hard drive. They ban people from playing based on their own criteria and by doing so essentially steal a large portion of the value of the game a consumer purchased, which is the online multiplayer portion. Their licensing agreement tries to indemnify Punkbuster and the US Army from being liable in the event that they violate your rights. The US Army also considers the computers people use to play the online game to be property of the United States Army when you install and run the software on your system an attempt to justfiy their illegal intrusion uinto your system.
Sound familiar?
To ensure your safety and security from cheaters while playing, you must relinquish ALL of your privacy rights, and allow the US Army and Punkbuster to scan all up in your system.
There’s no telling WHAT type of information they are uploading from your computer memory.

Games made in the US like Call of Duty were made in the private sector by companies that have no political obligations or ties. Call of Duty is like playing out a Tom Clancy Novel story as a first person shooter. The Chinese government produced “glorious Mission” is a piece of state made propaganda, a triumph of the will or alexander nevsky for the youth of the technological age.
