New Civility: Dem Rep Accuses Romney of ‘Raping Companies’

Rep. Jim Clyburn (D-SC) decided that during an MSNBC segment Tuesday he’d move to the front of the anti-Mitt Romney train by accusing the former Massachusetts governor of “raping companies” while he worked at Bain Capital.
“This is not an attack on free enterprise,” Rep. Clyburn said.
“I don’t take contributions from payday lenders. I refuse to do that. That’s free enterprise. But there’s something about that enterprise that I have a problem with. And there’s something about raping companies and leaving them in debt and setting up Swiss bank accounts and corporate businesses in the Grand Caymans. I have a serious problem with that,” he added.
Watch Rep. Clyburn display his understanding of private equity (via MSNBC):
He went on to defend President Obama’s anti-Bain attacks, asking “what are we supposed to be comparing President Obama to if we don’t compare it to the record that this man has with Bain Capital? He doesn’t talk about his Massachusetts governorship.”
Update –After Clyburn’s remarks made headlines, Obama spokeswoman Lis Smith made the following statement:
We strongly disagree with Congressman Clyburn’s choice of words- they have no place in this conversation.
But we do believe that Mitt Romney should come clean about his record as a corporate buyout specialist and how, contrary to his claims of creating jobs, his focus was on reaping quick profits for investors at the expense of workers and middle class families.
Update II: Patrick Devlin, a spokesman for the top-ranking Democrat, defended Clyburn by saying he used “raping” as a “synonym for rob or plunder,” ABC News reports.

Amazing this is on MSNBC, one of the Obamma medias head arms. How about the money Bain is giving to Obama? So it is OK for the Dems take money Bain while at the same bashing Romney for working for Bain what 15+ years ago and most all these deals were after he left?

Posted on May 22, 2012 at 4:49pm“his understanding of private equity” What needs to be reported on and understood is the motives and performance of a reasonable sized, random sample of the Bain Capital deals. If they in fact made money by buying distressed companies, leveraging them with debt and/or utilizing bankruptcy to avoid paying creditors and reneging on labor or other contracts then there is a character issue to be considered. Free enterprise, capitalism and maximizing returns for investors are not an excuse for making money off of prior investors, creditors, banks and labor. Much of it is unfortunately legal, but it speaks volume to one’s character, ethics and integrity. The ends justify the means is certainly not the characteristic of a statesman. So how about a well researched report on a random sample of Bain Capital’s deals. Keeping the discussion at the superficial pro or con capitalism merely serves the agenda and of course satisfies the ideological zealots on both sides.

Bain Capital’s business model was to make the companies profitable in the short-term in order to maximize the stock re-organized stock offering. Along with that, they load up on debt because it helps to balance the books (sounds like government). Of course, loading up on debt reduces the company tax burden – go figure.
There are things that happen in private equity that are not the most glamorous stuff – thats why Romney tries not to talk about it. Herman Cain – there was a guy who really turned a company around

Ah yes, it’s the glorious age of Hope and Change — when Americans are renouncing their citizenship faster than Obama can grab cash at a George Clooney fundraiser. In 2011, a record 1,789 Americans gave up their US citizenship, exceeding the totals from 2007, 2008 and 2009 combined.

Although, that being said….the ‘left’ think FDIC loan forgiveness of a companies debt is a bailout…just like they do not understand capital gains taxes, austerity, tolerance, or 16 trillion in debt, or what is a ‘right’…etc…They have no idea how much Bain has paid in taxes either to support their ‘pet projects’…not realizing without private equity helping grow business’, they, the Dems, would have no $$ for welfare, abortion subsidies to Planned Parenthood, WIC, food stamps, free medical for illegal alien babies…etc…

Honestly I dont care, if it was legal I am fine with it. The system is corrupt. What I do care about is that Romney has put out a budget that doesnt cut current spending levels. I care that he supports bills like the NDAA and Patriot act. I care he would keep us in the UN and us continue to be the global police force.
When it all boils down the only things that matter are trying to save the country. Spending, debt, wars, and freedoms are the most important issues. Romney cannot attack Obama on those issues because he is bought and paid for by the same big banks as Obama. Those big banks are trying to bankrupt the United States because we are the last piece of the puzzle keeping them from a global government. Romney isnt a bad guy, he is just a patsy put up to lose against Obama.
I am afraid this could be our last real election before its too late. Wasting it on Romney voting for Obama.
